Katherine

That girl was odd from the start. Just the way she walked made me feel a presence I didn't like, she was to well mannered for an eleven year old girl, to pretty, to advanced. Of course I never questioned my dear husbands words when he spoke, he made the rules.

The night we brung Michelle home was like we had welcomed a doll into our home. She stayed silent an only spoke when one of us spoke to her. When she spoke her voice was soft an lady like.

"Miss" I hear Michelle's soft voice say rupturing me from my thoughts I scan the room, trying to figure out where she was standing.

Her cigar rose from behind me as I turn around to face her. " Hello my sweet" I smile as if I am glad for her to be here even though I am not.

I am troubled at the thought of having a child. The thought of having to care for someone younger than me sickens me. I adjust the sleeves on my dress as she just stands there an stares into my eyes.

I blink an she's gone I see the corner of her dress as she leaves the room. I shake my head as I walk to to my bed chambers. Jace had already changed into his bead clothes an is sitting on the bed reading the local paper.

" There was a murder." He says not looking up from the page he was reading.

"Oh" I respond as I take a seat on my velvet seat in front of my vanity.

"Someone of low class an poor power just another unclean spirit." Jace continues, as if he wants me to follow along with him.

"Sounds terrible love." I respond as I remove the jewelry I was wearing. I stands up an walk into the bathroom to change into my bed clothes an when I enter my room again Jace has moved to the door of the balcony an peers out like he's searching for something Hmong the city below him.

"Something feels off" the words leave his lips, they hit me like cold ice, I know that deep down I feel the same way.

I push the feeling down to the point it's barley there. " Possibly because we now have a new member of the family." I suggest sweetly trying to sound like a loving mother.

That's when she appear in the door way like nothing i have ever seen. I glance her way "Michelle!" I began sternly "it's almost midnight you really need to get to bed."

She was in her night clothes an still looked like a porcelain doll even though she didn't have makeup on any more.

"But miss I'm scared" she says her sweet voice echoing off the walls as if it was a sweet song someone had sung. " may I sleep with you."

I open my mouth to speak, but Jace does it for me. " Of course my lovey!" He begins before I could.

I stare at him. I am at a loss for words, I can no longer speak. I have been ripped from my place as the head lady of the house hold. This mere teenager now in my place. I see a slight smile appear across her lips as if she intended for this to happen.

I crawls onto my side of the bed. It is anything but welcoming. Jace an the girl lay next to me I cover myself an turn on my side feeling uncomfortable that there is another person in my house, no worse in my bed next to me.

I must have finally fallen asleep after a while because I wake up an Jace an Michelle are already gone. My husband's some of the bed made and his day clothes gone. He's always been a very tidy man, never messy.

I find enough courage to get up an dress myself in a nice gown. It's different shades of blue. I personally think I look better in this shade then any other. I walk down stairs gracefully an to the kitchen where I find our cook an Michelle .

"Mr. Cole was called into work late my Lady." The cook says acknowledging my presence as soon as I enter the room.

A smile appears upon my face, "Thank you Gracie." I say as I look at Michelle. " Come child lets not disturb her while she's cooking" I reach my hand out offering in to Michelle who stood there her eyes looking like glass marbles the dress she wore making her look as it she was decked out for a ball.

Michelle takes my hand following by my side as we walked. I knew in my mind something was off about her. I couldn't put my finger on what it was .
