A Real Test:Part 5 Machine

I walk over to the only beed in this dump and try to get some sleep, but there is so much to think about and I become more restless. Taking a deep breath I peek up at my captive to make sure he's still "sleeping", he looks fairly limp so I take that as my invitation to get some much needed rest.I slowly drift off wondering if I can pass this crazy test.

Boooommm!!! the tower shakes and I jump falling to the floor as I rolled off the beed. Confused and scared about what set off my traps up the road. Scrambling around I search for the rifle I placed next to the beed post. And... I can't find it so I run to grab the extra one mounted on the window. Looking through the scope I scan the road leading to the tower. But all I see is a small scorch mark where the trap was.

The storm is still going fast and its almost light out so its been a good few hours since I went to sleep. But I still can't see that much further than where I placed those traps, there is just too much snow and wind. I can't see any bodies but some thing set it off... I keep looking around..... ok maybe the snow just was to heavy and it went off.

Then that's when it came a silent flash as a plasma round hit the wall right next to my face. Shooting supper heated metal into my hair and eye rolling in pain I fall back from my gun position trying to sooth the burns. Then I realize I can't see out my right eye my good shooting eye my best eye. Taking my hand off my face slowly I fumble for a med patch and slap it on my face. Realizing I don't have time for this I inch toward my gun again. Carefully I look to where I saw the flash and I Cant see anything, what ever it was got me good.

One inch to the left and it would be game over, grabbing the rifle I spray a few rounds into the area where the shot came from. By luck I catch a spark in the distance and concentrate my fire there I see more, and then it starts moving a robot of some kind it starts to shuffle toward the tower shooting plasma as it nears. Taking this moment I realize it has a broken wheel track, so I did get it with that trap and then it hid. Smart little thing It was big as the snow bikes but it seems to have a plasma rifle and oh a rocket launcher which it seems to be aiming right at me. Time slows as I see a set of rockets barrel toward my position, by instinct I shoot just before they launched and happened to hit one. The other one however still approaches, I dive to the floor just before it slams into my fortified windows tearing them to shreds and taking my gun out with them.

laying on the ground my ears ringing, I happen to be looking at the other side of the cabin. There I see my captive wide awake gurgling blood because a metal shard landed right in his neck. Man that's some bad luck his friendly bot didn't even check to see if he was alive before it went all Star Net(aka the future fiction version of Sky Net) on the cabin. To the left of my unlucky friend I see my other rifle laying under the beed. So that's where it went, crawling forward I grab it and check the under barrel bombs. loaded up its time to give this robot a second helping of explosions, with rifle in hand I look out the gaping hole and launch my bomb right toward it.

From the looks of it the bot did not like that blown up rocket to the face, it's burning from the residue. But its still shooting at me so it's not out the fight yet. Arching through the air my bomb lands right next to it, pressing the detonator I watch as it flies through the air and lands with a thud. Appreciating my handy work I continue to scan the area just to make sure there is not another one.

When I find nothing of note I start to hear the sound of dripping liquid. Realizing I forgot about my captive bleeding out I turn around and rush over to him. And he's not looking to good I'm quite sure he's dead I move closer to check his pulse. Touching his wrist I can't feel it, looking up I grab his neck to try again blood still oozing out then he twitches and gives me the scare of my life, his eyes shoot open and I can see the desperation to live in them. Acting with haste I grab a med pin and a blood pill, the pin should seal the wound around the metal and the pill should restore his blood count a little. Taking the pin I stab him in the neck close to the wound and at the same time yank the metal shard out his neck.

The sight and action almost makes me gag, there is nothing quite like the pulling and cutting of raw flesh to get your stomach jumping up. I watch as the pin does its job and closes the wound at a visible rate, taking the pill I open his mouth and shove it in. Good thing I knew what to do mostly thanks to all that reading and watching military sim movies. I hope I did it right, taking a look at the pin instructions I realize I applied it slightly wrong... well I guess reading is fundamental ha ha I hope its fine.

With a new breeze at my back I reflect on my encounter.... in all cases it could have been better but at least I survived. Even If I lost an eye in the process and a giant hole is now in my wall in the middle of a snow storm, with my only prisoner almost leaving to digital heaven. All in all not bad for a girl just learning the ropes, If only my luck was a little better.

Mean while back in the real world C in her digital avatar is watching Asa as she passes hurdle after hurdle putting to shame a many other recruits who have already been eliminated from the survival test. Highly impressed so far she watches as the timer for the next part of the test ticking down the all important Command section. The make or break of many recruits careers, even if you failed the survival portion you can still make it up with command.

A few moments from now we get to see who really has the skill, talent, and luck to be a good and maybe genius commander. Leaving her wondering thoughts C continues to monitor all the new recruits and their progress constantly sending it to the instructor and higher ups. Wondering if her new niece can impress the family as much as she impressed her.
