Hiding in the Dark

Soon in the parking lot that we could see out the door window I saw a car pulling up. And out that car, stepped the main band director. I felt a rush of shame and nervousness. I suppose my face showed the fear because the veteran in the storage closet dismissed me and suggested I hide in a practice room. I thanked her quickly and ran off toward the short diagonaled hallway that connects two of the band halls to a shorter hall that connects the practice rooms. The hall was 90° from the main director's office and he could easily see all the doors of the practice rooms from his widow, but not inside of the creepy rooms. each room had a light switch and were not connected to the breakers in his office. So they were the ideal place to hide. I pulled a door 2 doors from his office open, and slammed it shut behind me. Ignoring the light switch to my right, I sat down on the cold tile floor softly panting from the adrenaline. These practice rooms were made the opposite way of what you'd expect. The walls were a cream colour that was chipped around the edges, that left the cold metal walls exposed. The practice rooms seemed to only muffle the sounds in side them, and seemed to completely block out the outside world. I had no clue what was occurring outside the room, but I did stay silent in the dark. I began to hear breathing loud, heavy breathing. Like that of an athlete that had just finished sprinting. Breathing that wasn't mine.
