~~~~~~ With Logan ~~~~~~
Early in the morning, Logan stood off to the side of Beacon's courtyard with several massive ash cubes that stood about 7 feet tall and 2 smaller red and blue colored ash cubes that could fit into one's hand. Logan stood, trying to figure out how he should approach the class with the lesson he planed for today. Something that would understandably be useful: Free-running/Parkour.
Logan remembered one of the few missions he had in Mantel where he saw some street rats running from a baker with a rolling pin. He saw them dip, dodged, and jump to safety as they ran away. Each having unique styles that suited them. Logan didn't hesitate to buy the skills that day after seeing them.
Shaking his head to clear his stray thoughts, Logan got to work creating a parkour course for today's lesson. Logan had decided that this class would be dedicated to wall techniques and vaults.
Logan: 'It'll be best for them to start out with the basics. They're so uses to using aura to augment their abilities, I doubt they could fight without it.' Logan thought as he build several half walls, tall walls, halls and such out of the large ash cubes. 'An obstacle course, even a beginner's one, will be more then enough to get them started.'
Logan's mind then wondered to future lesson ideas and possible issues while he continued to build with the ash. As his mind wondered, he built massive towers, deep valleys, grueling drops, and staggered jump steps. Far from what Logan wanted his class to start out with. Logan never even noticed the sun rise high into the sky, or that he had garnered a massive crowd. What finally broke him from his thoughts was Ozpin shaking Logan's shoulder.
Logan: "Huh? Oh Professor Ozpin, I'm sorry I was lost in my thoughts." Logan said as he saw him. "What do I owe you for visiting me this early in the morning?"
Ozpin: "Well, I can see that." Ozpin said as he looked up at the massive towers Logan made that had pathways on it's surface. "And to answer your question, it's already noon. Your class have been here for about an hour, watching you build this course. I must say, your quite good."
Logan: "Huh?" Logan was confused until he looked at what he created. "Oh. Oh ya, this was unintentional."
What Logan had created was a massive tower surrounded by three smaller ones with bridges, crosswalks, cables, stairs, ladders, slides, ect. All interconnected to each other one way or another. Each tower also had numerous paths built into the outsides of them. At the top of the tallest tower, a flat platform held two pedestal and each one held one of the two red and blue ash cubes. Logan just sighed to himself, then turned towards his class.
Logan: "Honestly, I wanted to start you out with the basics." Logan said as he addressed the class and those surrounding them. " Instead, I'm gonna throw you guys into the deep end! The objective of this class is a mixture of Parkour and Free-running!"
The class and the surrounding started to murmur. Some about the usefulness of the class, and some were asking if Logan was all there in the head. After a minute of murmurs, Ruby raised her hand as she and her team were in the front row.
Ruby: "Um, Professor Scarlett? What is the usefulness of learning them?" Ruby asked hesitantly.
Logan: "The main reason for this lesson is proper movement and movement techniques." Logan spoke clearly. "Now all of you here are wondering what I mean. Your objective for this class is to retrieve one of the cubes at the top and bring them back. While you take you turn, you'll have to figure out how to pace yourself, proper routes, and how to properly move over, under, or through obstacles."
Random: "How will this help us?!" Someone shouted.
Logan: "This class is for situations where you are in unknown territory! So you don't waste stamina or aura!" Logan answered loudly. "If you need to run away, you need to know how to break away while persevering those two! If you need to capture a criminal and they have a better understanding of where you are, this class will help you break that advantage they have!"
Logan's voice resounded throughout the crowd. Several of the older students could already see the usefulness of this class. While the younger ones just scoffed and thought other wise.
Logan: "Now! Those that are Hunters/huntresses-in-training, go change into your gym clothes! Guys, make sure your shoes are tied tightly! Girls, don't wear heels and wrap your chest if you need to or wear a sports bra! Less weight you have moving around when you move, the better! Guys, this goes for your guts if you have one!" Logan shouted orders. "Those of you not participating, please move to the sides to avoid issues!"
This got Logan some glares from the female portion of the class. The male portion, laughed if they could or just smile if they had any female team members. When everyone got back, several of the female portion had uncomfortable looks on their faces. Several of the guys walked stiffer then they would too.
Logan: "Good! now lets give you a rookie demonstration! Lie Ren! Belladonna! Upfront!" Logan ordered. "Now, here are the rules! One, you may not interfere with each other. Two, you may only use aura to cushion you fall if you do. No strengthening yourself. Three, if you fall, you can get up and try again. Okay, when I give the signal, your both gonna start. Ren, your after the red cube, Belladonna you got the blue. You have ten minutes to grab your cube." Logan said as the two of them nodded and got ready. "Start!"
At Logan's sudden signal, both Blake and Ren buffered for a second. Ren the shot off before Blake could. But Blake was right behind him, then she passed him and reached a set of stairs. Ren didn't bother with the stairs and vaulted over a half wall next to them.
As Ren vaulted over the half wall, he dropped down into a small tunnel. Following the tunnel, Ren came upon a rock-like outcropping that ran up a tower. Throwing himself at it, Ren rush up the outcropping with ease then followed the groves up around the tower. Coming to a window seal, Ren then stopped to take a breather and plan his next move. After a minute, Ren got up and made a standing leap onto a bridge below him. Rushing forward over the bridge, Ren began to wall run up and leap from wall to wall; gaining height.
With Blake, as she trudged up the steps, she came across a tightrope bridge. Glancing at how far the other side was, Blake backed up a few steps and ran. Soaring across, Blake landed gently on the other side. When she looked up, she scowled as there was a staggered jump steps leading further up and away from the tallest tower. Turning around, Blake saw that there was a ledge above where she came from. Blake knew she couldn't reach it without help. Looking down, she had an idea. Getting a running start, Blake used the tightrope as a trampoline to reach the ledge.
Back on the ground, Logan was shaking his head as he watched. So far Ren was the better off one while Blake was getting herself into a worse situation. Almost five minutes later, Ren pulled himself up onto the platform and grabbed the red cube as Blake's head poked above the platform's edge.
Sighing, Logan manipulated the colored ash to grab Blake and Ren and bring them down. Once they reached to ground, Logan dropped them. Turning towards the class, Logan spoke.
Logan: "Now, who can tell me who had the better planing?" Logan asked.
Jaune: "*Hand Raised* That would be Ren, Right?"
Logan: "Yes! Ren saw that the star path wasn't correct so he chose a different one!" Logan agreed. "Now, who can tell me why what Blake did was wrong?"
Pyrrha: "That would be because she took the most obvious path. Though the path would lead to the top, it would have taken far longer then it would have Ren did."
Logan: "Correct! Now then, for this class today, I'll show you the right way to handle obstacles." Logan said as the colored ash lost its color and formed a half wall. "For the first part, vaults!"
Logan then walked them through simple vault like the lazy vault, speed vault, side vault, and turn vault. Once a good number of them got the hang of it, he moved on to harder ones like the Kong vault. Logan stopping here and there helping those who needed it.
Ozpin stood to the side as he watched Logan slowly walk through the movements of the Kong vault. Ozpin couldn't help but smile at the sight of Logan teaching.
Ozpin: 'Sometimes, he can be so odd.' Ozpin thought as he watched. 'I wonder what drives Logan to do what he does.'
After nearly three hours, Logan managed to get through vaults, landings, bar and wall techniques with the odd one here and there still needing help. Unsurprisingly Blake, Ren, and Ruby got the hang of the techniques after the first showing. Surprisingly, Jaune and Pyrrha were about even and had kept at it together while helping each other every step of the way.
After Logan dismissed the class, several teams asked him to keep the course up if he could so they could practice. As Logan was gonna answer, Ozpin came up and said that one of the unused school hangers was gonna be refurbished for this style of class. The teams thanked Ozpin and left after finding out that it should be done by the time of the next class.
Ozpin: "You know, you are quite the teacher." Ozpin said as he walked away with Logan following.
Logan: "I'm not really." Logan denied. "I just show them how. I can't see how that working all the time."
Ozpin: "That's quite the put down. However, I can say without an doubt that your a very good teacher."
Logan: "How so?"
Ozpin: "Logan, both miss Rose and Xiao Long were the top students this year. Miss Nikos came third and the gap between third and second was large. Large enough that Qrow would have trouble with the two of them in a fight purely based on skill."
Logan: "That's nothing. In a fight between Hunters, skill is not always necessary. The amount of aura, semblance, and experience are the biggest factors and that's not counting where either."
Ozpin: "Yes, I know. But still, those two are some of the best I have ever seen. And I've taught team STRQ themselves. And want to know something funny?" Ozpin asked Logan as they entered the school.
Logan: "*Sigh* Sure, why not?"
Ozpin: "Tai sent me videos of all the time you trained ms Rose and Xiao Long. Your gifted, Logan. You gift, whether you see it or not, is something countless people wish for when they see it. Your talented with numerous weapons and styles, a gifted planer, and understand and see the bigger picture when you deal with anything."
Logan: "While what you say maybe true, I don't see myself like that."
Ozpin: "Then what do you see yourself as then?"
Logan: "I see myself as just a man. Abit someone who can do many a great things, but just an 18 year old man. What else could I be if not that?"
Ozpin: "I sometimes forget that your only 18. But none the less, I see you as someone who can change the world and already has."
Ozpin said as he left Logan to head to his office. Logan just shook his head and left to head to his room. Passing by several students who waved or scooted back as he had a reputation for hating bullying. Once inside, Logan flopped down on his bed hoping to sleep the rest of the day away.
