Prideful

Her instincts still were blaring to get out of her house, so she followed their order. Glynda slowly made her way towards the front door and opened it before heading outside. Glynda kept her head on a swivel as she made her way to Beacon's main road where she got odd looks from the passing students. She ignored them while keeping on moving. Something was telling her to find Salem or Ozpin fast so she sped up.

.

Salem: "Glynda," Salem called out to her suddenly, breaking her from her vigilance, "You seem stressed, what's the problem?"

???: "That would be me..." A voice echoed from nowhere, causing all the nearby students and Salem to look around frantically, while Glynda just tightened her hold around her daughter and riding crop. "I'm afraid that none of you will be able to find me. But know this, I am just a messenger."

Glynda: "What's the message?" Glynda asked as Salem came close and stood back-to-back with her.

???: "That Wrench will die." The voice echoed, "And she will take Logan Scarlett with her."

.

As suddenly as it came, the voice left leaving Salem and Glynda still tense. The students still looked around for the source of the voice. Soon, Glynda and Salem relaxed a bit but were still tense.

.

Glynda sighed and put her riding crop away and hugged her daughter. And Salem just nodded her head to Glynda and left in a hurry to inform Ozpin about what just happened. Neither of them worried about Logan, but the threat was still there. They both wondered if anything short of a god could kill Logan with how strong they knew him to be. But they couldn't help but worry about what the voice told them.

.

Winter: "Get a perimeter around the site ASAP!" Winter shouted at the top of her lungs. "I want birds in the air and searching for any possible lead yesterday! Ace Ops, your boots on the ground, investigate the site and see if there are survivors. If not, find any leads where they might have gone." She gave out orders, urgency laced in each word.

Ace Ops/soldiers: "Yes Ma'am!"

.

Once they touched down into the snowy tundra, Winter looked at the site with fear. The area in question was the still flaming wreckage of Logan's Pelican ship. Torn asunder into two pieces. Sparks and fires from both fuel and electrical lines danced wildly as the soldiers and Ace Ops did their jobs.

.

Winter shuttered but not from the cold, her uniform kept her warm enough in these parts. She was scared, for one simple fact. She read the report from when Logan was attacked by a group of Wendigos led by a Bull. So she had an idea of what Logan's Pelican ship could be put through and survive. But, to see it ripped in half is fear-inducing.

.

Winter: 'What could have done this?' Winter thought as she watched the soldiers work quickly. 'The stress test Atlas have done personally shown that this was nearly impossible under normal circumstances. Hell, even Grimm can't pull something like this off.' She shooked her head. "Whatever did this is a danger to Atlas and the populace. Ironwood needs to know."

"Got a body! Burned to a crisp." A soldier shouted after half an hour of searching the wreckage.

Clover: "Found another one!" Clover shouted. "Holy fortune, it's Scarlett! Ma'am, he's alive but seriously hurt. He needs medical attention fast! Harriet, go fetch the medic!"

.

As soon as Winter heard Clover's shout, she booked it over to him as fast as possible. Upon arriving, Winter found Logan to be buried up to his chest in the snow. Jutting out of his back was a piece of shrapnel that was bloody. Winter put two fingers to Logan's throat to check for a pulse and was relieved to find one, a bit faint. Seconds later, Harriet came rushing over with the medic in her arms; a medic bag hanging off her shoulders.

.

Winter: "Medic, see what you can do to stabilize him. Harriet, grab a shuttle and bring it over here ASAP." Winter began ordering her subordinates. "Clover, stay here and help in any way you can. I'll call in for doctors and a surgery room to be prepped and ready as soon as we get back. Scarlett is our top priority now."

.

Harriet dropped the medic's bag and rushed off as fast as her semblance could take her as she went to secure a shuttle. The Medic and Clover dug Logan out of the snow and hissed at what they discovered. Aside from the shard lodged into his back, his legs were eviscerated and frostbitten, and his hands were blue and purple too.

.

Medic: "It's only thanks to the cold and his aura keeping him alive." The medic commented as he started pulling things out of his bag. "Otherwise he would have bled out in minutes if this was anywhere else."

Clover: "Guess Lady Luck has a thing for him." Clover joked as he help bandage what could be bandaged and tourniqueted what needed to be. "Ain't no way otherwise to survive something like this."

Winter: "Enough chit-chat!" Winter shouted, "Get him ready to move as soon as the shuttle gets here! Scarlett is our only lead as to what happened here."

Clover/Medic: "Yes Ma'am!"

.

As the two got to work making Logan able to be moved, Harriet arrived with the shuttle in tow. Logan was then pulled up from the snow and deposited into the shuttle as gently as they could. The medic and Clover hopped in with Winter giving Marrow, Elm, and Vine orders to salvage what they could from the wreckage. No one noticed how the burned body of Wrench disappeared into the snow drift.

.

Logan awoke to the smell of antiseptic, the beeping of a heart monitor, and the glare of fluorescent lights overhead. Logan's mind was covered in a thin fog as he tried to remember what happened and where he was. Soon several doctors came by and examined him before leaving, not even noticing that he was awake. Not long after Logan awoke, he felt his eyes grow heavy and droop; sending him back to unconsciousness.

.

When Logan awoke again, he felt heavy. His mind was clearer than before too. It took him a second, but Logan guessed he was in a hospital of some kind after taking in the clues around him. That and a nurse came in and checked over his vitals before leaving just as fast as he entered. Logan sighed and looked around for a bit before pushing himself into a sitting position. A sharp pain racked his body as he did so and he felt something tearing along his back as a warm liquid started dripping down his back. As he did so, the monitor started beeping rapidly and a doctor came rushing in a few seconds after.

.

Doctor: "Oh, you're up!" The doctor shouted when he saw Logan sitting up. "The monitor alerted us to unusual aura activity, Mr. Scarlett. But please, next time use the call button on the remote once you've awakened. Giving the doctors and nurses a heart attack just because you've awoken isn't good for our health."

Logan: "Yea," Logan croaked out, realizing just how dry his throat was. "I'm pretty weak, how long was I out?"

Doctor: "I'm not surprised, you've been out for almost three weeks." The doctor told Logan as he handed him a cup of water that was next to a clipboard. "You were a lucky survivor of your Pelican ship being torn asunder. But, when you were brought here, we had to prep you for surgery as soon as the shuttle that bought you here touched down. We pulled quite a bit of things from your body during the surgery." The doctor explained as he picked up the clipboard and handed it to Logan.

Logan: "Three pounds of metal," Logan read aloud with wide eyes. "Numerous broken bones, fractured ribs, compacted lumbar disks, burns, lacerations, and a missing foot. Not the worst I've been through, but one of them." Logan said as he wiggled his feet only to feel his right foot missing.

Doctor: "I've seen that medical report." The doctor snorted. "How you survived that, I'll never know or question how. But this one you didn't, you died on the operating table after we pulled a two-foot shard of metal from your back. It sliced your heart and you died within seconds. All the staff saw how after you died, you burst into flames before turning into a child-like form."

Logan: "That..." Logan stopped to think of a way to keep his phoenix ability a secret.

Doctor: "Don't worry, the General already made sure no one outside of the operating room saw or heard about it happening." The doctor placated Logan. "Our lips are sealed."

Logan: "Thank you." Logan sighed in relief.

.

The Doctor soon left afterward to go inform Ironwood that Logan had awoken. Logan huffed and thought about all the time he missed with Glynda and Dorothy as he sat there waiting for Ironwood. As Logan waited, a nurse came in with a bundle of clothes for him. Logan thanked the nurse and got dressed after they left.

.

Soon after, a knock resounded as Logan finished wearing his last article of clothing. Logan called for them to enter as he turned towards the door. As soon as Logan did, the window broke and a figure in dark clothing came tumbling in. Logan acted quickly and form an ash knife as the figure lunged at him, their arm outstretched with a sword in hand. Logan reacted and slashed his knife across the back of the figure's hand and then sent a kick into their midsection. The figure's aura blocked both attacks as Logan circled the figure looking for another point he could attack. As Logan came to face the door, he could see that it and the walls were covered in a brownish aura.

.

Logan: 'Whoever this is, their semblance must lock the area down.' Logan thought as he blocked a slash. 'But that means they're locked in here with me.'

.

Logan just grinned as he deflected a third slash with his knife and pivot-kicked towards the head of his attacker. As the kick connected, Logan quickly switched gears and spun around, sending a downwards stab at the figure's chest area. The strike connected and forced the figure down. Logan followed them down and circled around them like a serpent. By the time the figure realized where Logan was, Logan held his knife to the figure's throat. The figure went to force Logan away but felt their aura flicker and dissolve, Logan had stealthfully wrapped his white flames around the figure's waist.

.

Logan then noticed something about the figure he just fought. It was highly feminine. Large breasts, thin waist, shapely legs, and dainty hands. Logan didn't think much about it as she was there to maim or kill him at least. Mentally sighing, Logan quickly knocked her out with a punch to the side of the head as the door to his hospital room burst open with Ironwood leading the charge with Winter on his six.

.

Logan: "I don't blame you for taking your time." Logan spoke as he stood up off the floor. "Her semblance ables her to lock the area around her." He informed them when the two and the accompanying guards eyed the would-be assassin.

Ironwood: "I swear, it's always something with you." Ironwood sighed as he ordered the guards to take away the assassin. "How are you feeling?"

Logan: "Could be better." Logan answered. "I did just fight off an assassin. But, other than that, I feel okay."

Winter: "Logan, you were in a coma for three weeks." Winter pointed out. "You've just fought off an assassin right after waking up, how are you just 'okay'?"

Ironwood: "Winter, please." Ironwood sighed. "It's Logan. You can't acquaint normal with his abilities."

Logan: "Um, ow." Logan winced. "That kinda hurt."

Ironwood: "Well, what do you expect?" Ironwood asked. "With the things you've survived, it's a miracle you still have a sane mind."

Logan: "I question my sanity on a daily basis." Logan countered, clearly joking which the two picked up on.

Ironwood: "Anyway, we have things we need to talk about."
