Prideful (2)

Logan: "I don't blame you for taking your time." Logan spoke as he stood up off the floor. "Her semblance ables her to lock the area around her." He informed them when the two and the accompanying guards eyed the would-be assassin.

Ironwood: "I swear, it's always something with you." Ironwood sighed as he ordered the guards to take away the assassin. "How are you feeling?"

Logan: "Could be better." Logan answered. "I did just fight off an assassin. But, other than that, I feel okay."

Winter: "Logan, you were in a coma for three weeks." Winter pointed out. "You've just fought off an assassin right after waking up, how are you just 'okay'?"

Ironwood: "Winter, please." Ironwood sighed. "It's Logan. You can't acquaint normal with his abilities."

Logan: "Um, ow." Logan winced. "That kinda hurt."

Ironwood: "Well, what do you expect?" Ironwood asked. "With the things you've survived, it's a miracle you still have a sane mind."

Logan: "I question my sanity daily." Logan countered, clearly joking which the two picked up on.

Ironwood: "Anyway, we have things we need to talk about." Ironwood shifted gears almost immediately. "Privately." He said before walking out of the room.

.

Logan got the hint and followed along with Winter bringing up the rear. Logan knew Ironwood long enough to know when he had something important to say. The subtle twitch of his mechanical arm, his stare, even the way his nose twitched; Logan knew them well. After all, Ironwood's semblance, 'Mettle', was always a cause for worry and concern. One could never really tell when his semblance took hold of his thoughts. This was the cause of Logan learning Ironwood's tells.

.

Soon the three of them left the hospital where Logan was staying during his short coma. Logan got to stretch his legs and wings when they had enough room to do so after they left the hospital. Winter never got to see Logan's wings up close, so she was surprised to see them shine and seem to radiate power. Ironwood just asked Logan not to molt any feathers, he would rather not receive a report about a clogged-up cleaning bot. Logan just ignored him.

.

After a thirty-minute walk later, the three soon came upon Atlas Academy and the headquarters of the Atlas armed forces. A short elevator trip later, the three were inside Ironwood's office where Ironwood took a seat at his desk while Logan and Winter stood. Ironwood sighed as he collected his thoughts before he spoke. After a few moments, he spoke.

.

Ironwood: "I'll be blunt about it, I need two things from you." Ironwood sighed and said. "Is that thing you refer to as a rifle working? The thing you call the [Sidewinder]?"

Logan: "That thing?" Logan asked bewildered. "I have it good to go, I just need to make the ammo for it. I haven't needed to use that thing in years."

Winter: "We discovered a Geist that is inhabiting a body we know nothing about." Winter started explaining. "Normally, we wouldn't ask this of you, but this is abnormal in every sense of the word." She sighed, "The body of this Geist is highly resistant to dust-based weaponry and normal firearms hardly scratch the surface of the body. And our standard aircraft weaponry is useless against it."

Ironwood: "We're hoping that your weapon will have the piercing capabilities to deal significant damage to the Grimm." Ironwood told Logan. "If not, we've already begun retrofitting several aircraft to fit some of our larger weaponry we have yet to use against it."

Logan: "I don't mind trying to subjugate this Geist." Logan offered, curious as to what the body is made of. "Where's it located?"

Ironwood: "Thank you, Logan." Ironwood said as he sighed in relief. "It was on our southern border, about thirty miles east of this point." He told Logan as he pulled up a holographic map, a red dot showing on the map. "Now, on to the second thing I want to ask you about," he spoke as he pulled up some images of Logan's crash, "what caused this? So far, all we have been able to identify is that it was something with claws that did all this damage."

.

Logan sighed, he honestly couldn't remember it all that well.

.

Logan: "I'm not sure." Logan started telling them. "It was fast, fast enough that I couldn't see what it was. First, it was gouging in the wing and body. Then the cockpit glass cracked as it roared. After that, the rear ramp was ripped open and fire engulfed the hold. The door to the cockpit was heated enough for it to start to glow, welding it shut. Finally, the wing was sliced off and as the Pelican was falling, whatever it was cut right through it. It hit a fuel line during it, causing it to explode and catch fire." Logan told them all that he could remember. "The last thing I remember was the flap of wings and a searing pain before I blacked out."

.

Winter: "Grimm?" Winter asked, worry evident in her eyes.

Logan: "I'm not sure." Logan shrugged, "It felt like a Grimm, but at the same time, not."

Ironwood: "From what you described, a bit hardly anything, it sounded like a Teryx." Ironwood spoke up after some thought, pulling up an image of a Teryx. "But one unlike any we have seen or heard of before. Maybe an alpha version we've had yet to come across."

Logan: "With how armored a Pelican ship is, I doubt it." Logan spoke, shaking his head. "I've seen a Teryx in flight before, none are that fast."

Ironwood: "I did say an alpha we have yet to discover." Ironwood returned the shrug.

Winter: "Whatever it was, we need to prepare for it." Winter stepped in, stopping any argument before it started. "If it is as fast as Logan says it is, we need to reinforce our defenses. We don't know when it could strike again."

Logan: "She's right. Whatever it is, we need to prepare." Logan sighed and agreed with Winter.

Ironwood: "True, we'll handle the reinforcements and the notice to the populace." Ironwood told Logan. "You, Logan; head home. Glynda is worried about you and your daughter misses you."

.

Logan: "Fine," Logan sighed, realizing how screwed he was as soon as he got home. "Want me to send you the [Sidewinder] and ammo when I get back or do you want me to try my hand at it first?"

Ironwood: "Please, send the weapon and ammunition." Ironwood decided after a moment of thought. "We'll have a go at subjugating the Geist before calling you in. You already have more pressing matters at hand."

Winter: "If you have it with you, I'll take it from here." Winter offered, knowing about Logan's magic.

Logan: "No, it's back at Beacon, unfortunately. I usually don't need that kind heavy of weaponry on me." Logan told her. "Plus, it weighs quite a bit. So you'll need some help moving it around."

Winter: "Noted." Winter said.

Logan: "Now, I'm going to head home and face the music."

Ironwood: "I wish you the best of luck, you're gonna need it."
