Chapter 6: The Tavern

The Tavern was across the village, taking me 5 minutes to get there when I walked inside it wasn't quite as busy as the Thieves Guild but it was still busy with around 40 people inside. I walked up to the receptionist and asked the same questions and found out that they had several different quests available, but only 3 of them were suitable for me.

2 included killing mobs whilst the last involved being a guard at one of the village gates for 1 hour, after pondering over the quests for several minutes I decided to take the quests of being a guard for the village gate, specifically the western gate, where the wolves are located.

"Hello, I would like to register for the quest of guarding the western gate for the village."

"Okay, you will be assigned to the 4th squad, you will be responsible for the western gate along with 4 other players, head over to the western gate to start the quest." The receptionist replied.

As soon as the receptionist finished the quest was automatically accepted.

'That's weird I had to accept the quest last time, although I did verbally agree, so I assume a verbal agreement should be satisfactory enough for now.' I thought as I slowly headed towards the western gate.

...

I suddenly stopped 'A group of 5? I haven't socially worked with people for over 5 years, I know that interacting with people is necessary but usually I just pay for food, give a tip and or if it is something important, I let them in, they tell me what they are here for and then I leave it to them, even when I was a guarantor for Eternal I only talked with them over the phone, well there definitely needs to be a time when I get over it, lets just see how it goes, at most I'll just be seen as a socially awkward person, not like that has ever happened before.'

I started heading off slowly again, all the while debating inside my head whether it is a good idea or not to complete the quest in the first place.

...

10 minutes later and I've finished slowly wandering over and the squad leader for the 4th squad is waiting for my arrival.

"Welcome, as you're the 2nd highest levelled person in the group you will be assigned as the deputy squad leader." The somewhat stoic looking squad leader said.

[You have been added to a party]

[Squad 4]

[Squad Leader: Solitary Bastion Level: 5]

[Deputy Squad Leader: BloodRose Level: 3]

[Squad Member: Gold Hand Level: 2]

[Squad Member: Doom Slayer Level: 2]

[Squad Member: HellFire Level: 2]

[Quest Update]

[The party has been assembled, you are the 4th party out of 10 who will be in charge with the protection of the western gate and the security of all the village inhabitants within the range of the western gate. 60:00 Remaining.]

"Head over to the western gate, all 10 teams will be summoned and assigned tasks to do for the hour if you find any problems report them to your squad leader if they are unable to solve them then report them to me." After saying that the somewhat stoic looking 'Squad Leader' who I now assume is not a squad leader, but rather the leader of all 10 squads, walks away.

"Well, then I assume we should go look for what our actual duties are then." Said Solitary Bastion with a rather smug face, probably due to the fact that he was chosen as the squad leader.

We head off in the direction of the notice board near the western wall.

[Squad 1 - In charge of patrolling the inside of the western wall.]

[Squad 2/3 - In charge of inspecting the goods upon entry to the village.]

[Squad 4/5/6 - In charge of patrolling the outside of the western wall.]

[Squad 7/8 - In charge of checking all passports of citizens who enter via the western wall.

[Squad 9 - In charge of patrolling and being lookouts for the north side of the western wall.]

[Squad 10 - In charge of patrolling and being lookouts for the southern side of the western wall.]

As soon as we finish looking over the orders our squad leader has an outburst.

"What the f*ck, we have to go out there to patrol with 2 other teams while everyone else apart from squad 1 is essentially standing around." Our 'squad leader' is clearly annoyed by the fact that we actually have to do something.

'This is why I don't play with others in games, it has happened several times to me before, people always expect you to do all the hard work while they just stand around and play pretend kings and queens.'

I started walking outside of the wall, after all trying to reason with these types of people won't work, they will just annoy you even more so and then it gets annoying for me.

Eventually, the rest of the squad came following behind the squad leader, soon they passed me and I picked up my pace and just followed behind saying the simple 'yes' 'hi' 'hmm.' of course trying to be the least socially awkward person ever.

10/60 Minutes into the patrol the wolves started coming closer to the western gate, so we started to engage with the mobs, they were only simple wolves so they were easy to kill and since we have 5 people in our team we don't really get any EXP from the wolves.

25/60 Minutes into the patrol and we've finished killing all the wolves getting close to the western gate and we go back to patrolling around the perimeter of the wall.

40/60 Minutes into the patrol and the gate is getting rowdy, it appears as if some people are trying to get into the western gate illegally, we move towards the gate to see if we can help.

43/60 Seeing us arrive the men stop being rowdy and calmly allow themselves to be taken away. 'That was definitely strange, should probably report that to the stoic 'squad leader'.

So I told the squad leader. "We should probably tell the 10-squads leader about that, it seems kinda weird."

"If you want to tell him, go do it yourself, I won't take the blame just because some people were slightly annoying." He blows me off, I kinda get pissed off and I decide to tell him anyway, not like it could possibly get worse anyway.

Nothing eventful happened after that.
