Complex emotions (I)

The next day, Camellia was patiently waiting for the phone call from Charlie. During breakfast, she put her phone nearby so that she wouldn't miss any phone call. To her disappointment, the only phone calls she received were from Lenny and some of her clients. She began to worry and thought that Charlie probably had forgotten his promise.

Then, came lunchtime. Lenny invited her to have lunch at her home. Knowing how good the food would be, Camellia didn't refuse. So, she went to her home.

"Is your phone that delicious?" Lenny asked as she watched Camellia whose bite after bite would often glance at her phone. She noticed that her friend seemed not into the food as much as she usually did. Mind you, she had asked her chef to prepare both their favorite foods! And if it was as previously, Camellia would definitely devour all the delicacies in one go.

Alright, not that exaggerated but yeah almost to that level!

"Uhuh," Camellia's short response made Lenny's mouth twitch in annoyance.

She wasn't paying attention at all! So, the phone was more delicious? Was that what she really meant?

"I see. Chummy, take this food, this, and this...hmm..this as well,"

Annoyed by her friend's nonchalant attitude, Lenny purposely instructed her maid to remove Camellia's favorite food, leaving only the one she loved to eat.

"Yes, Miss!" the maid smiled as she tagged along to her Young Miss's ploy. She began to remove the 'unwanted' dishes on the table.

"Chummy, why are you taking my food!" Camellia abruptly stood up. She looked at the maid with protest. Her mouth slightly opened as she looked at the empty space in front of her. Then, she glanced at Lenny's area which was still full of dishes.

"Miss Camellia, just now you said that the phone is more delicious than these dishes, so Young Miss Lenny asked me to remove these not so delicious food," Chummy explained with a serious look. Lenny who was sitting across Camellia nodded, agreeing to her statement.

Flabbergasted, Camellia rose both of her hands and made a 'what is this nonsense' kind of expression.

"No-no what stupidity are you talking about. Give me my foods back," Camellia took the spicy fish tomyam bowl on Chummy's hand. She looked at the maid with a warning 'this is mine!'. The other finally burst out laughing. Even Lenny couldn't hold out as she laughed and clapped her hands.

"Hahaha, that's what you get for daydreaming. The way you stare at your phone almost like you want to eat it!" Lenny complained. She continued, "Are you waiting for someone to call you?" she asked after drinking a glass of water to soothe her throat that was strained due to laughing a lot.

Camellia who was staring at the food in front of her like they were precious nodded.

"Pff..." Lenny almost choked on her food as she looked at Camellia's reaction. When did she become docile? Then, as if seeing a rare opportunity, Lenny's gazes turned mischievous. Suddenly...

"Who? Who makes my friend like this? GET OUT!" Lenny stood up while one of her fingers kept on pointing towards Camellia. Her eyes were wide opened and her lips shaky. She appeared to be terrified of something.

Camellia, the subject of the matter became perplexed. She stared at the finger that was still pointing to her direction.

"What happened?" she asked.

"You're possessed. You need to be purified!" Lenny declared. She looked worried.

"Me? No! I'm fine," Camellia was still clueless. Chummy who was the only spectator wanted to laugh but she restrained from doing so. The incident that was taking place was a rare comedic skit. She wanted to watch more!

"Are you sure? My friend is not someone who would wait for someone to call ber. She isn't someone that will not finish her Tomyam food. She is always ready and will not answer half-heartedly. My friend is a smart person and right now you don't look like one!" Lenny took a breath after ending her sentence.

"Am I that kind of person?" Camellia suddenly felt enlightened. If she was the person as described by Lenny, then, she had caused a major misunderstanding between her and Charlie.

Seeing the worried look on Camellia's face, Lenny knew her intention had hit the wrong switched. So, she returned to her seat and looked patiently at her friend.

"Charlie offered me to work with him and I rejected it. Now, it looks like his offer would be useful, except I don't know if his offer is still valid," Camellia finally talked after some time.

"And?" Lenny probed.

"And...He said he will call me today. But that isn't what I'm worried about. I'm afraid that the way I rejected his offer before would make him think that I'm rude. What if he led me into a trap in which he purposely gives me hope when at the end he actually wants to crush it," Camellia explained as her fingers were playing with her spoon. She looked at Lenny and noticed the humor in her eyes.

"This is not funny," she frowned.

"Miss Camellia, why are you so occupied by this? Just call him and you'll know the answer. Even if he promised to call you, there are circumstances that might forbid him from doing so. But, I think this Charlie really is something... Look at you, if I don't know you, I'd assume that you are waiting for your lover to call-"

"Stop your nonsense," Camellia stuffed a piece of sushi into Lenny's mouth, stopping the other from speaking. Lenny jeered at her but chewed the food still.

"I'm full. I'll walk around your garden first," Camellia picked up her phone and strutted out of the dining area. She didn't look back as she could imagine the face Lenny was making.

"Hehehe, Chummy don't you think Camey looks like a maiden in love?" Lenny asked her maid.

"I think so too, Young Miss. It's amazing how ignorant she is," Chummy responded. And the two giggled.

Camellia was standing near a pond while recalling the things Lenny had said before. Now that she reassessed the whole matter, it seemed that she was thinking too much. It was indeed rare for her to be afraid of something. Moreover, there was no definite answer yet. She still had a chance!

'I'll call him!' she thought to herself.
