Prologue

"Greed is what our ancestors called a sin. The desire for material wealth or gain. Funny how they called it a bad thing, but it was due to their own greed that caused the fall of their civilizations.

In 2026, humanity faced extinction after succumbing to their own greed and dropped nukes on each other. Although I researched thoroughly, there were no records saying why our ancestors did it. What I concluded through my other research on greed and our ancestors past actions was that they were at war.

Whatever the reason might be for the nukes dropping it was clear that the sin of greed was present. After our own Adam and Eve rose from the ashes of the fallout. They gained what we now call "The System". This system that allows us to level up, has brought our greed to the forefront. We work all day with barely any rest, in order to level up and gain prestige.

In the end, no matter how many years have passed. Be it a decade, a century, a millennium, no matter how much humans evolve. The one thing that keeps us the exact same as our ancestors is greed."

I put down my paper, looking out to the class that looked at me dumbfounded. There was silence as I looked back to my teacher, then backed at them.

"Nice paper for a level 16," a classmate yelled out prompting everyone to laugh.

I laughed along with them, but deep down I felt hurt. I had researched the topic of greed for over a month, I had to limit myself on my paper, or I would have written a lot more than just four paragraphs.

My teacher started clapping, quieting everyone down while also congratulating me on making a better paper than most. "Please take a seat Prometheus," she said pointing to her desk, where I placed my paper.

After returning to my seat, I sat down, leaned back in my chair and sighed. A few seconds later my system had a new notification. It appeared in the corner of my vision.
