Prometheus, The Middle Child

My name is Prometheus Morgan, I am the 7th child out of 13, basically I'm the middle child. No one in my family really pays attention to me, they are either to busy leveling up or helping the youngest level up. My house is chaotic, it isn't big enough for all of us, maybe if older brothers and sisters actually level up enough to move out, we could have enough room. Then again this is pretty average for households nowadays.

Having a child, nurturing that child, and them leaving the house at a high level rewards massive exp to the parents. Most families go for quantity over quality, I guess we are going for both since mom and dad aren't letting us leave the house until we are level 30. The oldest in my family is level 29, he works as a hunter. I estimate within a month or two he will be outta here.

What do I want to work as?

Well, I'm still in high school, my quest to complete basic education is 80% complete, so about 2 more years left until I graduate. I don't want to do anything when I graduate to be honest. I live mostly inside my room, either doing homework or playing video games. I want to continue my life of purely having fun and laying back. Working so hard to just get people to even say thank you to you.

But in the end, to get what I want. To live a stress free life, I have to work hard and get stressed out.

"AAAUGH! Now, I'm getting stressed just thinking about it!" I forcefully throw my notebook across my room. I pushed back my chair, walking towards the notebook and picking it up. I placed it back on my desk and opened my menu by willing it to happen.

The system greeted me, but I ignored it and quickly opened my quests menu.

[Current Quest - Homework - Reward: 15 XP]

I closed the quests tab after realizing that I was a few questions away from completing the quest. I opened my stats screen.

"I'm barely at level 17. Once I hit it I can finally drive a car."

I sigh, closing my menu, and sitting back down at my desk and finishing my homework. Within a few hours I got the notification of completion, I gained 15 XP from the quest and finished around dinner time. I arrived last as usual, everyone was impatiently waiting for me.

"Prometheus, what did we tell you about coming late," my dad passively told me, but I could tell there was aggression behind it.

"I'm sorry dad," I say timidly, while I pull my chair out and sit in it.

My mom claps her hands together, "Well, now that we are all here, let's pray."

We all close our eyes and fold our hands.

"Prometheus, since you came late you might as well say the prayer," my eldest brother Hercules says.

I don't want to say the prayer, but I'm forced to say it or we all won't eat.

"We pray to you, our Adam and Eve for another meal. Amen."

Athena, my eldest sister who sat next to me at the table, slapped my hand. "Don't rush the prayer, we get less XP."

I open my eyes, looking right into hers, pick up my eating utensil, use it to grab a bit of food and stuff it in my face. I chew it then swallow, as everyone in my family groaned, they all got the same notification as I did.

[Quest Complete! Dinner Preparations - You have gained 8 XP]

We could have gained more XP but I decided not to finish the prayer, in the end will it really matter. We all are just going to go back to working, might as well just finish it early and get everyone back to it.

"Prometheus, don't you have a field trip tomorrow?" my mom asks me as I put another piece of dinner in my mouth.

I nod my head, and quickly force the food down my throat. "We're going to the World Government Building that's in New America."

"New America! That is quite the bit away, you guys taking a boat or plane there," my younger brother, Apollo asks. He sat on the other side of me, I smiled at him and rubbed his head. "There is only one way for us to even get there. We'll be taking the plane."

"Make sure you finish packing for the trip after dinner of course," my mom says finally starting to eat her own plate.

The dinner went as all other dinners went, we sat, ate, and talked about Heracles and his recent accomplishments with his hunting. Most of his hunting stories didn't really interest me, except one about hunting a lion that gave him 200 XP. You see hunting is a very popular and booming business. Everyone knew that the XP gain on everything became extremely slow after entering their childhood. It was such a gradual climb up that everyone who wasn't in some kind of business had their level reflect their own age or be about two levels ahead of their age.

The best business when it came to XP gain was either a government position or being a hunter. Killing other living beings, like animals, gave more XP than any other method. Hunters though are mostly frowned upon by most people, they get jealous at their free reign of gaining XP while everyone else is outlawed on doing so without a licenses.

I finish my dinner first, then head to my room. I was the only one in the house with a room to themselves and I enjoyed it. I could play games without one of my siblings trying to level up behind me or, I shuttered, interact with me.

After playing games for a bit I would go into chat rooms discussing some of my views on the current society. Of course I would get yelled out and be called a lazy ass, but I would reply to them by first calling them brain dead, then counteracting them on laziness.

"To be honest if you think about it, all of our greatest inventions were created due to someone's laziness. The invention of a car, someone was too lazy to walk. The invention of a phone, someone was too lazy to send a letter and wait for a reply. My laziness will spark a revolution, working to earn money, working to level up. It's all bullshit. I'm going to become King of the World or Head of the Government. I'll get rid of the working class. Allowing everyone to have fun and enjoyable life."

I would mostly feel proud of myself after writing that, but my pride would quickly get shot down, by the amount of people who replied with, "Just ban this kid already," or "Nice dream, but you need to get a job." or some other sort of insult to my mother or even sometimes encouragement. I wonder if our ancestors had to go through this type of attack over the internet.

I turned off my laptop and phone, finally falling into my bed, I didn't bother turning off my light, I knew that my mom would turn it off after I fall asleep. So that's what I did, I fell asleep until the next day, where I continue this cycle of work, but in a different country.
