Of course they hate you

Chapter 10 Of course they hate you

It's the hormones,

Don't think too much. It's just your desires but they are not you. Whoever it is you're thinking about, it's not time yet. Just focus more on the school festival. If you get one of the highest scores then maybe we'll both be chosen to go to Paris.

Then you'll finally meet me,

H.

Gav answered her call after 1 ring.

"Hey babe," Gab greeted casually.

Sav teared up, she didn't know she missed her best friend this much. "Hi," she greeted back, her throat clogging up.

"Are you okay?" Gab, the ever worrier asked.

"I'm okay," she sniffed, "I just miss you."

"I miss you more sweetheart. Life sucks without you," Gab said sadly. "We should get married."

"How about Devin?" Sav asked without missing a beat.

"He can be my bridesmaid. He knows how much I love you."

Sav laughed, the kind of laughter that sprung tears from her eyes. It was either that or she was crying.

"How have you been?"

Sav told her everything except the death threats and her stalker. Gab was such a worrywart and would probably hire a hitman to guard her 24/7 if she heard about it.

"Of course they hate you!" Gab agreed while Sav frowned.

"Why? I didn't do anything. It was an honest mistake."

"Do I really have to spell it out for you?" Gab asked, sounding exasperated. "Because you're pretty. That itself is life threatening to those helpless girls. You know how jealous they can be. The boys are probably ogling at you, not glaring at you. I swear you can be so naïve."

Sav's mouth hung open. "No way, it couldn't be just because of that."

"Yes way. People can be very judgmental. Sometimes you can look pretty snobbish too when you're swamped in your own world."

"I still don't believe it." Sav shook her head, baffled.

"Babe, trust me. I've known you since you're in your mother's womb. You'll get a lot of attention, even more from powerful people, whether that's good or bad. It's in your birthchart," Gab explained on and on about her planet placements until it was time to go.

"Right, Devin must be waiting for me," she reminded herself.

"Right, you should go. Where are you guys meeting up?"

"Oh he's just waiting on the bed," she said sheepishly, "naked."

"Gross." Sav closed her eyes to get rid of the disturbing image that formed in her head.

"Time to go give him a release," Gab added while Sav gagged over the phone.

"Ewww, stop it Gab!"

They both laughed their hearts out.

"He's asleep isn't he?" Sav asked, still chuckling.

"Like a baby brat," Gab confirmed. "I love you. Take care."

"I love you too."

Sav started her day with such a light heart that not even the grumbles of her classmates could dampen her mood. They were instructed to prepare for the school festival and were divided into 10 teams. Being at the back, she was teamed up with Zayden, Riselle and surprisingly, Brielle.

Zayden winked at them, commenting that it's a harem. Leonard was not present that day making Zayden the only guy in the group. He was thoroughly enjoying it though, perhaps a little too much.

"What do you know about Riselle?" Sav asked Brielle when they were told to get the fireworks from the stockroom.

"She's really quiet but I've always seen her with Leonard and Zayden. I don't know much about her."

"How about Zayd--?"

"Right, Riselle only answers with one word," Brielle cuts her off then changed the subject. Sav wondered if she had a history with Zayden so she decided not to pry any further.

And Brielle was right. RIselle would only answer with one word.

"Do you need help with that?" Sav asked Riselle who was carrying a heavy looking box.

"No."

"Are you done with the scissors? Can I borrow it?"

"Yes."

"This is not so bad isn't it?"

"Yes."

Sav gave up trying as she prepared placing old fireworks. They were told to test the old fireworks out, if it was still working. When it was ready, they distanced themselves and lit the strings.

Sav glanced around and smiled when she saw Brielle anxiously looking at the climbing spark on the string while Riselle watched with no expression whatsoever. Zayden on the other hand was watching Brielle and as Sav looked harder, she found confusion in his eyes.

The sparks died down then suddenly burst into flames. Vibrant colors filled the sky as smoke enveloped the atmosphere. Sav watched the fireworks in amazement until her gut told her to look back at Zayden. She did.

He was still looking at Brielle. This time with wonder.
