Cross

"Nice to meet you." He stood in front of me.

"Y-You're the-" I was cut off.

"The handsome guy out of all of us? You are right." He winks at me.

Something tells me that I should be kept quiet. I look at my cousin Vincent. He looks back at me weirdly. "Bro, you alright?"

"Vincent..." I kept a straight face on. "I told you that I have work, right? I don't have time to meet your friends." I really didn't want to get involved with a monster.

"Wow, Vincent was happy to introduce us and you are here ruining his happiness. What kind of cousin does that?" The Asian boy asked.

I ignored him and look at Vincent. "I don't like to talk with kids that aren't related to me."

"That hurts." Ra sarcastically said.

"Cross don't say things that hurt our baby Ra!" Vincent glares at me as Deok-Su hugged Ra.

"Look I am very busy. I have a case to solve." I walk away before he could say anything else.

I really do feel sorry for being rude to my cousin but I really didn't want to see Deok-Su again for my own safety. I drove in the car back to work. When I came back, my co-workers were on their computer or either talking amongst themselves. I sigh and walked to my desk. I sat down and opened a folder and started to dig in on the information.

"Why can't you give up on that case, Cross?" Bob came up to me.

"Well because I need to? I can't let the criminal just walk away." I look at him.

"If he attacks again then Superman or Batman will take care of him. It's not our business." Another worker called out from his desk.

"Don't they live somewhere else?" Someone else asked.

"They do. We live in Great Rouge, a small city with a gangster on the lose hurting people. I doubt Superman or Batman will come to save this city." I answer.

"Gangster? Haven't they stopped causing trouble? Now days only robbery happens." Pincas gave me a frappe. He is one of the top handsome guys in our city.

I thanked him. "Well, that's the thing. These robbers already have a place to live and have food and a job. So why would they want to rob a store for more money? The guys last night hasn't had a criminal record until now and he won't tell us the real reason to why he did rob a store last night. It's weird."

"Valdez, he probably isn't getting paid that well. Don't worry that much." Bob chuckled.

"Okay." I agree so I wouldn't have to hear many complains. When I try to go against what the say they always complain so I learned to drop the subject, plus I got bored when someone talks too much. Except for Pincas.

Pincas chuckled and game a soft smile. "Don't worry buddy. If you need anything then I will be here for you." I thanked him again.

Pincas and I started to talk about random things to our personal life's. Even though he is two years older than me, he is still my best friend. He is six foot and one inch, taller than me by an inch. He dyed his hair midnight blue and it suits him honestly. Pincas Lopez is Latino like me. We grew up in the same area. His skin is lighter than mine though.

I met him when my family went out to eat. I was five when we bumped into each other with our plates of food. We both cried and our family decided to eat together. He started to get attached to me when we ate together. So that's when our family started to become friends up until now.

After I finished my shift. I headed out to see Deok-Su besides my car. He smiled at me and I smiled back at him. "How was school?" I ask.

"Great!" He answered.

"What are you here for?" I ask.

"Oh, nothing. I just came by to see how your case is going." He gave me an innocent look.

"What case?" I open the door to my car.

"The case of the gangsters. I have connections to them. I can help you with your case." He gave me a smug look.

"What do you want?" I ask knowing he would want something.

"I want to be myself when I help you." He answered and then he teleported in my car. I look in the car to see him buckled up in the passenger seat. "Plus I want to get to know you."

I sat in my seat and look at him. "I can't trust you. So please get out of the car."

"You don't trust me?" He asked.

"Yes, I don't," I answer honestly. "I don't want to be near you or involve in your situation or life."

"Wow, you are so honest. Not many people are honest, I think I like you already." He chuckled.

I gave him a cold look and he gave me a child smile. I could use help with the case since I'm stuck on it. "How old are you?" I ask.

"I'm seventeen! I turn eighteen in the summer! I'm also a senior!" He replied with so much energy.

"How can a vampire-like you be so energetic?" I start the car.

Deok-Su laughed and then he clapped his hands together. "So are we going to work together or not?"

"First let's get to know each other. I'm curious about what you can do and how can you survive under the sun." I chuckle.

"Ha! The sun isn't my enemy. I'm like twenty percent human! My mom is half-human and my dad is a pure vampire." He answered.

"How old are you for real then?" I drove out of the parking space.

"Like I said I'm seventeen! I was born in this century."

"What year?"

"Two thousand and one. I have an older brother who is three thousand years older than me and he helps my dad run a successful company." He explains. I listen as he talked and I couldn't help but still not trust him. I drove him to Vincent apartment which was only two minutes away from my work. Our conversation was short. "Why are we here?"

"I don't know where you live. Plus I have plans to do tonight." I answer.

"Can I come?"

"No."

"Then how will we keep in contact?"

"Aren't you a vampire? You just find me." I raise an eyebrow at him.

"Oh right. But I rather have your phone number because I am not going to waste my energy."

"Okay. Give me your phone number then."

"Really! Okay." He gave me his phone number and then got out. "See you later Cross!"

"Bye." I drive away and call my girlfriend.

"Your late for our date." She sounded annoyed.

I chuckle as I imagined her cute face. "Sorry I had to take care of a kid."
