I sat at the table with my family. We lived in a penthouse. I played with my food and my parents were talking amongst themselves.
"Are you okay Deok-Su?" My brother, Kin asked.
"Yes, why do you ask?" I look at him.
"You seem like you can't wait to get out of here. Is there someone you want to see?" He asks.
Damn you Kin. I silently curse him in my head. How does he know what I think about? Sure it has been three days since I gave Cross my number. But how long does it take to take some time to call me? I am a fun person.
Suddenly my phone rang and I picked it up. "Hello!"
"Hey, Deok-Su." Ra greeted.
"Oh, it's you." I frown.
"Oh were you expecting someone else? I'll just call-"
"Yea I was. But he hasn't called yet." I answer.
"Who is it?"
"Cross," I answer.
"Vincent cousin?! Why are you trying to get close to him?! You know Vincent will get mad, he doesn't want his family involved in our world." Ra nagged me.
"I know but do you know what a great honor it is to-" I look up at my family and they gave me a look. "Personal conversation please." I stood up and teleport to my room. "You know he is my ticket to freedom for a while."
"What if you get caught hanging out together by Vincent?" Ra asked.
"Pft, you know Vincent can't tell me who to hang out with."
"I know that. Just know I won't be there to save your butt when Vincent gets mad." Ra reminds me.
"Let him get mad," I state.
"Since Cross hasn't called shouldn't you visit him?" Ra suggests.
"I should." I smile.
"Yes, you should after school," Ra said.
After talking to Ra, I quickly get changed and my mom knocked on the door. "Come in."
She came in and gave me a worried look. "Sweetie, please don't look for Cross Valdez." I look at her. How did she know about him? "Cross is Vincent cousin. I met him when I was hanging out with Vincent mother. He came over to hang out with Vincent. A very nice gentleman." She answered my unspoken question. "You know we all heard your conversation. Cross shouldn't be involved in our world. He should be living his life without knowing our true self. And you know the rule."
"Okay, mom." I lie. No way was I going to leave Cross alone.
She smiled sweetly at me before leaving. I walk to the elevator and it went down. It opened up again to one of the many floors above us. I didn't bother to learn how many floor this building has. Once the elevator opens I saw that one girl who is a huge K-POP fan.
I politely smile at her and greet her. "You look nice like every other day." She said, meaning 'you look totally gorgeous! I love looking at you'.
Once we hit the last floor I quickly walked out and walked to Ra apartment building. He stood in the lobby talking with the lobby people. "Hey, Ra time to go to school." I call out to him from the doors.
He dismisses the workers and rushed to me. We walked together to school and chatted. Then a familiar car pulled up. We saw Cross in the with Vincent. We greeted each other and got in the car.
"What happened to your car?" Ra asked Vincent.
"Oh well, it has a bunch of trash in it so I didn't want to take it today. At least I got us a ride!" He smiled at his cousin.
"You are lucky." Cross chuckles.
We got to school and saw people looking at us. Well probably at Cross since he used to really popular at school when he was still attending. "Wow, he looks good in a cop uniform." I heard a girl whisper to her friend from a few feet away.
I got out last and look at Cross. "Hey, you-"
He cut me off. "I'll pick you up after school to talk."
I nodded happily and wave at his farewell. All I'm three of us walked into school with no problem. School passed pretty quickly which I was glad for. I stood on the sidewalk waiting for Cross.
"Hey, why are you standing here?" I heard Lana ask.
I look up from my phone. "Waiting for a friend," I answer.
"Really? Well, I'll keep you company for a while." She stood next to me and talked about gossip in school.
I stop listening to her as soon as she said: "Rob cheated..." I really didn't care about people situation. As soon I saw Cross car coming our way I instantly bid her farewell. I got in his car ready to discuss our deal.
He drove off and gave me a bottle of water. "Sorry for not calling you. I had to deal with my girlfriend. She is her moody days."
"Ah Okay." I relax a bit.
"So about our deal. You will help me catch the criminal while using your powers?" He gave me a confused look. I confirm the idea. "But why though? What do you gain from it?"
"I gain the freedom of using my powers in public," I answer. "You see, our kinds have rules we stick to. We can't be seen or discovered by humans. We can't use our powers in public. The higher-ups gave us rules to protect us. Many vampires stick to the rule and like living like a normal human being. I for one dislike living like a human. I want to use my powers and be myself at all times. I feel like a prisoner with the rules. To top it off my dad is a higher up. So I only use my powers at home which sucks because I don't have that much to use my powers on. I am basically helping you for free! I ain't asking for money in return or nothing just freedom." I explained.
"How can I trust you?" He asked.
"Let's make a contract when we get to your place," I respond.
"Okay." He drove on.
We stayed silent in his car with music playing on the radio. Once we got to his place, I look at his house. "You live alone?" I ask.
"Yes." He answered and walked to his door to unlock it. He lived in a neighborhood with no apartments just houses around each other. Well, a small community of houses.
We entered and I saw his kitchen on the left and the living room on the right. There were stairs that lead to upstairs and a hallway in front of me that lead to somewhere. "Feel free to roam around if you like." He states as he walked up to the stairs.
"Aren't you afraid of me stealing?" I ask.
He looks back at me. "No? There isn't anything worth stealing. It's just plain stuff that a house would have."
"True." I look at his stuff and he was right. Just plain stuff normal humans had. "Well go change out of your uniform. Wait can I take my shoe off?" I ask.
"Sure I guess." He walks to his room.
I take my shoe off and walk to his living room. I set my bag down and then walk to his fridge to find ice cream cups. I took one and took a spoon. I started to eat ice cream and walk around his house. I walk through the hallway and look at his pictures of him and his family. He was cute when he was small. I chuckle as I see a picture of him laying in the mud with his face in there too. A kid stood next to him holding a peace sign up.
"I'm done, are you eating ice cream?" He came down in a t-shirt and plain sweatpants.
"Oh someone has started going to the gym?" I look at his new muscle.
"No. I've been doing exercises two days a week. Now can we get started on the case?" He walked into the living room with files.
I sigh. "Brain time to work again." I walk behind him.
