Doubled Pawns

Upon the arrival of Inspector Krauss, they were thoroughly investigated one by one. First was Nakahara.

"I was at my room that time. I was computing the money I will deposit on the bank today. I thought I should save more money this time because of the upcoming vacation with my family. I want to celebrate a big one."

Krauss listed his statement on his notebook. He turned to Tatsumi, who was sitting on the second sofa with Jenny.

"How about you, Tatsumi?" asked Krauss.

"Ah, can two people at the same room vouch for each other?" he laughed and pointed to Rook. He nodded as soon as he confirmed he was with him the time of murder.

He looked back to his notebook and turned his suspicion to Gabriel.

"So Mr. Gabriel here saw the victim already hanged in his room. He grabs a hammer from the storage room, breaks the window and opens the room door. Why did you break the window?"

"I thought I could save him, because I saw Aldern swaying, when he was hanged, so I thought it is not yet late to save him."

"But he was dead when you arrived?"

"Yes Inspector," he replied, straightly, but his eyes was not ready enough to meet the investigator's.

Krauss seriously looked at his detailed information.

"Hmmm….so this is probably a suicide all along. But the thing is, why does it seem to be a murder to me?"

Some police officers went to the lounge where they were gathered and approached Krauss. They whispered something to him and went out afterwards.

"I am sorry about this but there is a new forensic update about the victim. I must go for now and check it up. We will continue the investigation later and please preserve the crime scene. We will focus our insight there, as we will see the further elements."

All of them stood and thanked the inspector for the time being.

Rook and Tatsumi looked at each other and went out. The others were chatting in the lounge about what happened.

Both of them went in the backyard. Rook leaned on the fence nearby.

"Tatsumi, we need backgrounds of the suspects. I believe, that someone in the mansion did it."

"You mean the killer is with us?"

"That's right. If we could get backgrounds of these suspects, we can see what the motive maybe."

"Right now we cannot have such information."

"If we cannot have it, let the suspect produce it," Rook quoted, and went back inside the mansion.

Puzzled, Tatsumi went back with him inside. He was wondering if it was something his father might have taught him and he's applying them now.
