The Audacity

Why would Officer Wu be here? Was the gun pointing at her or at someone else?

Yang Jia stood there, shocked. Everything happened so fast that she didn't even notice what was happening around her surroundings.

Police officers and helicopters surrounded the place while Tang Dingxiang was screaming in pain. His goons didn't know how to react and just stood there watching their boss moan in pain.

"Ahh... WHY ARE YOU WATCHING!!! YOU IDIOTS!!! KILL THEM, KILL THEM ALL!!!" He screamed as he tried to get up. He used the door as a source of support. Holding his stomach to stop the bleeding, he opened the door and left as he staggered to the floor.

"Don't let their leader escape!" Officer Wu ordered the other cops and they immediately went into action.

The goons heard him and stood in front of the exit door so that nobody could leave.

Yang Jia looked dazed.

"Yang Jia... Yang Jia!"

Yang Jia snapped out of her daze only to look at Mu Huiling screaming her name. Her hands were holding her shoulders and then she glanced at Officer Wu.

Officer Wu noticed her stare and nodded at her, reassuring her.

That's when she understood. 

Replaying the moment again in her mind. Tang Dingxiang had a gun pointing at her, but then another gunshot was fired. Before it happened, Mu Huiling pulled her towards her. Everything was so fast that it seemed like it happened all at once.

She was stupid. She didn't notice the gun pointing at her. Officer Wu had to save her. She should've reacted quickly instead of worrying of a minor injury.

Yang Jia chided herself for being careless.

She took a deep breath and deeply implanted this memory in her mind, so that if there's a next time, she'll know how to react. She'll make sure that this incident doesn't happen again.

That's how Yang Jia is. If she makes a mistake, she'll scold herself and make sure she doesn't make the same mistake twice.

"Sir, we caught him" A voice of a man came from the walkie talkie that Officer Wu was holding.

He brought it up to his lips and said "Roger that"

Tang Dingxiang's goons were easily brought down. The climax of this incident was at its end and shifting to its falling action.

Yang Jia walked out of the lab and saw many doctors entering the lab and leaving with bodies in wheel stretchers. Those bodies were the people that she saw when she entered that room. There were at least thirty bodies in there. A few of them were barely breathing while the others most likely didn't make it. Most of them looked pale and their bone structure could be seen through their skin. Some didn't even have an appearance and some were a completely different color.

'What did these innocent people go through? Why did they have to suffer so much?' Yang Jia thought as she looked at those people. Covered bodies were coming out one by one.

Tears were threatening to fall as she glanced at Tang Dingxiang who was unconscious.

"Tang Dingxiang! You're a monster!!" She whispered loudly.

"Everything is over now" Officer Qin said.

Yang Jia turned towards Officer Qin who was approaching her as well as Officer Wu.

"Are sure?" She asked not really believing his words.

"Positive" He gave her a thumbs up and smiled charmingly

 "But?" Yang Jia asked.

"You're not free as well. Remember you passed the speed limit and let's not talk about what you did in there. Someone like you shouldn't be involved in these matters you should've at least called the police" He continued.

"But you two let me..." Yang Jia retorted, but was interrupted quickly.

"Yes and we're getting punished for that. Ugh I  can already see my entire next month full of torture." He shivered at the thought of it.

"But won't I only get a speeding ticket?" She asked.

Officer Wu nodded "Yes, but we still need to ask you questions about this incident..."

"So you have no other option, but to come with us" Officer Qin interrupted his sentence.

Yang Jia sighed and agreed reluctantly.

Before they were about to leave the area officer Qin stopped.

"Wait, who's going to take that?" He pointed at the luxurious teal Bugatti Veyron.

A car like that in a deserted place like this. It was too hard to ignore.

Yang Jia could see the strong desire to drive the car in his eyes. She had to go in a police car because the police officers wouldn't trust her. There was no other option but to go with them and she would regret it if she left a nice car like the Bugatti Veyron here in the open.

Yang Jia rolled her eyes when she saw Officer Qin practically begging her with puppy eyes.

She grabbed the keys from her bag and threw it at him.

Officer Qin catched the keys and his eyes sparkled with excitement. "Damn, this is my lucky day to think that one day I'll drive a baby like this one in this lifetime. It's unbelievable... Don't worry I'll take good care of it" He said as he walked towards it.

"You better be because it's not my car" Yang Jia said casually.

Officer Qin turned towards her and gasped "Don't tell me this car is stolen"

Officer Wu looked at her in alertness.

"Of course not, It's my friend's car. I just borrowed it... without consent" She said the last two words in a whisper.

Officer Qin sighed "Well you didn't steal it, so that's okay" He got on the Bugatti Veyron and drove away.

Yang Jia looked at the car leaving and then glanced at Officer Wu, who didn't seem happy.

She was speechless 'Really? This guy also wanted to drive the car'

The entire drive to the Police Station, Officer Wu was skulking.

When they arrived, they could see Officer Qin leaning against the car as he owned it. He was talking to a very pretty female officer or more like... flirting? But it seemed that even the car couldn't help him in getting a relationship.

The female officer seemed uninterested when talking to Officer Qin, but Yang Jia could see her eyes glisten when she looked at the Bugatti Veyron. Not because of greed, but she seemed to be interested in sports cars.

"The audacity" Yang Jia whispered, but Officer Wu heard her clearly.

Yang Jia walked in the police station and was questioned regarding the lab incident. They asked her as to why she was there in the first place and what she was planning to do. Yang Jia answered the questions truthfully and soon after she was granted the permission to leave, but before she had to pay her speeding ticket which was most of her money savings. Yes, it was that much.

'Wu, wu, Now I'm back to being broke' Yang Jia cried internally.

She walked out of the police station.  She glanced at Officer Qin who was still in the same position talking to yet another different female officer, but this one seemed to have taken the bait.

"You think you can give me a ride?" The female officer asked.

"Yeah, for sure" He said as he walked to the passenger seat to open the door for her.

The female officer was about to step inside when...

"Cough"

"Cough"

They both turned around to see Yang Jia standing there.

She walked towards Officer Qin and extended her hand waiting for something to be handed to her.

Officer Qin awkwardly laughed and handed her the keys to the Bugatti Veyron

Yang Jia rolled her eyes and walked towards the passenger seat door to close it, but the female officer was in the way.

The female officer awkwardly stepped away

"Thanks" Yang Jia said. She walked to the driver's seat and went inside.

The engine turned on and Yang Jia drove away leaving an embarrassed Officer Qin and an awkward about to be angry female officer.
