A Reason

Daryl did most of the talking when it came to trying to convince the cambion, Chete, to aid them against the dangers they were destined to face in the future but no matter what words were used they were not enough.

"I have no intention to get involved in the problem between the kingdoms. I have been around a long time, Daryl, and as far as humanity and the kingdoms go.. I don't care. What have the kingdoms ever done for me? I have lived my live on the run because of my half demon race." Chete slowly turned his head to the crown prince and narrowed his eyes as if he was measuring up the young man. "No offense, Prince, but I owe your kingdom nothing."

"Chete, that's the crown prince you're talking to." Daryl muttered to the man. As much as he disliked the crown prince himself he still held loyalty to the kingdom and would never dare to be so harsh to the royal family directly.

Prince Leo did not get upset with the man's harsh words. Knowing well that Chete owed nothing to the kingdom of Cadirade or his royal family. They had never given him any aid and there was no kingdom out there who had ever granted Chete any form of freedom. The man was a half demon race that most feared so at birth the man had been deemed dangerous. As a mere child he had lived on the run for years. Leo could not imagine how many years the man had lived in fear of dangers unknown constantly knipping at his heels.

"You're right." Prince Leo agreed with Chete's words causing everyone to turn and look at him. A prince of Cadirade's kingdom had openly admitted to knowing there was no reason for Chete to fight for him. It was something none of them had expected to hear from someone of the royal family.

"What do you think?" Prince Leo whispered down at Vorbuk who stood at his side.

"You're the crown prince, right? If he owes you nothing.. why not make him owe the kingdom of Cadirade a reason for aid.." Vorbuk glanced up at Prince Leo and back at the half demon. Nobody else in the room was able to understand the words spoken between Vorbuk and Prince Leo but they could tell the two were conversing. They had seen the two of them over the days of travel communicate enough to understand when Vorbuk was speaking with the prince.

"Hah.. A royal family finally admits it themselves. I never thought I'd see the day that happened." Chete clicked his tongue against his teeth and glanced around the room.

"What if there was something in it for you to aid my kingdom? Would you help us?" Prince Leo stepped forward a bit as he spoke. The weight of everyone's attention on him as he spoke up.

"Something for me? What would that be exactly?" Chete was curious to hear what method the prince would try to use to gain favor with him. Many people over the years had offered Chete money, jewels, even women to gain favors from him. But those were all miniscule tasks such as assassinating someone. He knew that aiding in the war between the kingdoms was not something small and he would not cave in for something so simple.

".... I will grant you a title. A Knight of Cadirade.. With that you can aid in my kingdoms affairs, own land, and live freely among the kingdom. All I ask is that you help us now." Prince Leo's words left everyone in silence for a long time as they stared at the complicated expression on Chete's face.

Chete did not know how to take the words from the crown prince of Cadirade. Never before in history had a cambion been granted a position within a kingdom, a title, or even so much as land to live on. The words he had just heard were everything a cambion like him could dream of having. Yet it felt as if he would pass out from the thought of it all being within his grasp.

"What would you have me do?" Chete asked cautiously as he felt like there could be something hidden within the task he was being given by Prince Leo. It all sounded too good to be true to his ears.

"I want you to return to Cadirade to aid my father from there. With the god Chynir getting involved I don't think things will be safe there for him and my brother.." Though Prince Leo mentioned his brother's safety he could feel that something was wrong with him as of late. He could not put his hand on what was going on with him but it bothered him.

"... Fine. I'll head for Cadirade Kingdom next." Chete turned to leave but before exiting the room he glanced over his shoulder at the crown prince. "If you go back on your word dont think just because you're royalty that I can't kill your whole family."

With Chete's final words everyone's face turned dark. Though Prince Leo's did not. He understood the gravity of how much betrayal Chete must had been through over his lifetime. The cambions did not age like normal beings did and could live for hundreds of years easily, leaving Chete's real age unknown to anyone but himself. It was even possible for Chete to forget his own age if he lived long enough.

Vorbuk sighed to himself as he realized it was finally over. Being unable to communicate with others besides the prince was beginning to feel troublesome. Feeling exhausted he could only quickly retreat from the room before the others started to get loud again. He could feel their eyes on him as he slipped out the door and headed for his own room where he rested with Prince Leo during the trip.

Suddenly a wave of dizziness washed over Vorbuk as a slight tinge of pain could be felt in his chest. He was not sure what was going on. Struggling to keep his balanace his muzzle let out a deep growl.

[ QUEST COMPLETED ]

[ WARNING - ENABLING THE MERGE OF HOST TO The Heart of Luna ]

"Why the hell is it so painful? I thought it'd just be something simple like an item.. what's going on here?" Vorbuk growled at God's Voice for not warning him.

[ Invalid. ]

[ The Heart of Luna is not so simple. ]

"Just shut up and explain!" Vorbuk felt like he was being nagged for insulting it.

[ The Heart of Luna

You have gained the goddess Luna's favor. With The Heart of Luna the Host will be temporarily granted human form.

Warning: Effects only last for a limited period of time. ]

"I can.. become human again?" Vorbuk felt as if the world had stopped around him at those words. Even if the effect was only temporary, if he was to become stronger would he not be able to eventually be mortal once again?

[ Invalid. Species is impossible to change. It's only a form of shifting ones shape.. ]

"You're such a mood killer.." Vorbuk could feel his forehead throbbing at his reality shattering. He would forever be a wolf. He was merely being granted a chance to walk among both worlds. Vorbuk would be able to join humanity while walking among the life of the beasts as well. Something very few among history ever got to witness.
