Survive The Night (Part 1)

The faolan's cries filled the night air from behind as they all paused at the sound of the wolves. Glancing back to try and determine what was going on. A ominous feeling made Vorbuk's heart feel like it dropped. His ears perked up as he listened to their sounds quickly closing in.

"Not good, move it quick! That's the cry of a faolan pack!" The sound of Daryl shouting brought them all back to their senses as they began to run as fast as they could through the vast mountain range.

Johan Lovette was running in front so that he could lead them towards the direction of his Temple. It would be easier to survive he pack of faolan wolves as long as they could make it back safely in time. As he checked behind him he could see the two beasts Vorbuk, and the tiger, easily keeping up with him. The vampire, Ashley, and the dragon, Bredret, remained at the groups sides as if they were instinctively protecting the weaker members of the group.

Grrrr.. Rrr...

The sounds of the faolan was closing in on them from behind as they ran with everything they could.

"We aren't going to make it in time," Johan Lovette spat his frustration out. "damn it."

"What do we do? Why did a pack of Faolan suddenly appear in the mountains?" Leo asked this question without a specific target for his question. Asking the question out loud was all he could do at the time as he tried to comprehend where the beasts had come from.

Faolan were cursed wolves. They were small, agile, and had a deadly poison flowing through their bodies. They were a rare species that were feared by many for their violent temper. What made their violence and speed even more agonizing to their prey was the fact that no matter how skilled one was alone they preferred to hunt in packs.

They were rarely tamed to become a companion pet because almost nobody could succeed in subduing the beasts. It was impossible to tame one in a pack so the person would have to be capable enough to entrap one alone. It was a task that no average man would take the time to consider doing.

"A faolan pack doesn't just appear in Theapan's mountains like this. They are probably someone's companions." Daryl was the one who answered.

Theapan was a kingdom of werewolves. They did not just allow other dangerous beasts in their territory unattended. Faolan wolves were something that the king would not naturally allow to wander his lands. They were too dangerous to be allowed to roam the mountains of any kingdom. If they were wandering around that only meant that someone had something to do with them appearing.

The prince could feel a cold sweat coming from him as he tried to imagine who would be desperate enough to obtain a whole pack of faolan. They were either smart or simply out of their mind.

"Just work on making your feet move faster! We need to make it to the temple!" Johan Lovette shouted at the group before turning around.

Swinging his umbrella with one hand the umbrella began to emit a faint white light. A set of blade made of wind were sent soaring through the air straight towards the faolan that were gaining on them.

A loud yelp could be heard as the wind blades wounded one of the hounds. However it was not enough to keep the beast down as it shook off the sudden pain and stood back up. The other faolan around it was looking at it with looks as if they thought the wounded one was pathetic for getting hit.

Vorbuk could see a faolan trying to run along side them under the cover of the trees near by. It was closing in on their side with its vision clearly targeting the crown prince, Leo. The prince was unaware that he was being watched by the faolan. His focus was on trying to escape the ones coming at them from behind while watching to make sure nobody fell behind.

Vorbuk's body sank into the shadows beneath them as they ran. He could hear the sounds of someone calling out to him as he vanished into the shadows as if he was a descending phantom in the night.

There were shadows everywhere as the night was becoming late. That only made it easier for him to swiftly move about the shadows with ease.

The night was when the darkness easily overtook the light of day.

It was like his natural playground. He could feel how light his body had become over time. From the time his body sank into the shadows to the second he shot forth from the shadows of the faolan his presence was not noticed by the beast until it was too late to dodge.

Sharp fangs from Vorbuk grasped the faolan's neck. The two wolf's bodies smashing into each other as he slammed the faolan against the solid ground. He could hear the sounds of he others still running but his mind could not comprehend the sound.

Under Vorbuk the faolan was dazed briefly. Once the sudden realization that it had been cornered below the wolf caught up with it the beast growled out. His paw pressed down on the neck of the faolan as the beast struggled furiously to snap at him. Its body trembled and struggled to free itself out of desperation. He could not tell if it was fear of death the beast felt or if it truly did want to end his life once it got free.

With a mere thought Vorbuk's dark blast appeared on his chest while his gaze remained downward at the wild faolan.

Boom!

The others heard the sound of Vorbuk's explosion from behind. It was difficult but they struggled to run while trying to catch a glimpse of Vorbuk in hope that he would not fall behind. There was not enough time to stop if someone fell behind without putting everyone in danger.

After a short time they could see the dark figure of the wolf rejoining the group. A momentary happiness washed over prince Leo when he saw Vorbuk catching back up with the group.

That feeling could not last long as the group had to soon come to a direct halt. One faolan had been removed from the group that was hunting them, but Vorbuk knew things were hardly ever that easy to take care of on his own. His ears flicked at the sounds of faolan wolves moving about the surroundings.

In front of them a few wolves came out of the shrubs and glared in Vorbuk's direction. Baring its fangs a loud growl echoed from the sound of one beast in particular. All the wolves in the pack of lower status began to howl out into the night sky. It was clear to Vorbuk that the one glaring at him must be the leader amongst the group.

"They've got us surrounded!" Daryl shouted as he held his arm out in order to block the others from moving any further. As the others looked all around they could see the group of faolan had managed to surround them from all sides.
