Survive The Night (Part 8)

"You can get some rest here while the others hold the barrier. It should not be much longer before another god intervenes in this matter. We only need to hold our ground til they arrive." Johan Lovette said while descending the stairs towards everyone.

Booooommm!

They could hear the rumbling of dragon's fire trying to swallow the barriers of the temple's people protecting the place. It was deafening. There was a cold glint in Johan's eyes as he could hear screams from those who could not withstand the impact being blown away outside.

"We can't waste time resting inside. We're the ones Chynir is after." Prince Leo felt uncomfortable allowing others to take the risk against the enemy when he was the target. He was not going to cower and rest within the temple's building.

"You're going to fight Bredret?" Daryl asked. Bredret was one of their comrades regardless of his current state. The thought of fighting Bredret was not something anyone of them felt comfortable with but some how they had to hold the dragon off until help could arrive.

"Somebody has to and I am the one he joined the group to help. It's best if I take care of him." Prince Leo was of course not comfortable with it either. When it came to someone taking responsibility for Bredret's situation it felt to him that it was something he should do.

As the prince turned to walk outside he could feel Vorbuk keeping up pace to walk with him. The prince would not have to go ahead alone because he had the wolf beside him. That thought gave him a sense of comfort.

Outside Vorbuk could see many types of magic being cast in order to block the faolan and Bredret. On top of the dragon stood Chynir simply watching the scene as if it was a show being put on for him. There was a smile on Chynir's face as he watched people slowly dying from the dragon's flames.

With the dragon's fire engulfing the barriers over the temple it felt as if they were inside a dome of fire. Heat was intense and almost suffocating. Vorbuk could see glimpses of those who collapsed being unable to withstand the power behind Bredret's attack. They could cry out just before the flames swallowed them whole. It made Vorbuk's stomach uncomfortable.

They climbed the stairway up the temple's walls. Every person they passed did not cast a single glance in their direction. Focus was something they knew they could not loose. With the enemies on the outside of the temple they only paid attention to words from their superiors in the time of crisis.

When they looked through the flames and barriers they could see the cold gaze of the dragon glaring down at them among the smoke and flames outside the temple's wall. It was a familiar face to them and yet at the moment they could see no sign of Bredret's true self looking at them. They could only see a mad dragon that had lost all sense of himself. Its bellowing roar echoing from its throat.

"Ready?" Vorbuk glanced up towards the prince and could tell he was forcing himself to remain calm. Behind that calm expression was a hint of fear and guilt behind the prince's eyes.

"Let's go." Crown Prince Leo rushed forward as the wolf dove into the prince's shadow like a phantom passenger.

"Open the passage!" Johan Lovette called out as a priest cleared the pathway out of the wall for Daryl and the others to rush outside. They knew the prince would confront Bredret. However they would not sit still either. The others would do their best to hold off the faolan so that they would not attempt to swarm the prince.

Prince Leo had no time to worry about the others. If he lost focus against the dragon he knew only death awaited him at the end. His steps brought him to the ledge of the wall as he leapt off the side of it as he saw the dragon swing his large front claws towards the earth barriers.

The earth barriers brought the earth upward like a wall made of the earth itself. As the dragon's claws smashed into the barriers they shattered to pieces. The ones who were in charge of the earth barriers struggled to remain standing as they pushed their mana forward to quickly force the barriers to regain their shapes.

Prince Leo landed on Bredret's claws and began to climb his way upward. He could see Bredret's head turning towards him with his mouth wide open. A ball of light and flame forming within the dragon's mouth.

Picking up his speed he moved faster. Fire pouring out in his direction just barely missing him. He could feel the heat behind him where the dragon had attempted to roast him. Jumping forward as he climbed he made his way towards the dragon's back where Chynir stood.

A heavy weight washed over the prince trying to force him to his knees as the god turned his head to glare at him eye to eye. The gods eyes were red and black. There was no color white to Chynir's eyes at all. It felt as if a devil was glaring at him.

"I seem to have a couple intruders on my property." Chynir smirked as he glanced down at the prince's shadow. He could feel the wolf gazing at him from within the darkness.

"Bredret is not your property..." Leo had to force the words out. The pressure that the god gave off was so strong that it took everything he had to speak. Fighting that pressure with everything he had the prince slowly stepped towards the god.

"Tsk." Chynir clicked his tongue as if what the prince had said was ridiculous. "Of course he is."

Chynir swished his hand to the side. The dragon roared before standing up on its hind legs and blasting the temple barriers with an even stronger force of flame. It was as though the dragon was putting everything he had in his attack to wipe the barriers out.

Prince Leo rushed forward with his sword. Swinging it down towards the god. Chynir's body vanished before the prince's eyes could even tell he had moved. It was impossible to follow the god's movements.

"You're not qualified to fight me even if I was blind folded." Chynir scoffed at the sight of the prince bearing a weapon against him. He found the situation to be comical.

"Maybe not... but I can at least buy them time." Leo muttered out as he turned around and saw the god standing behind him.

"Don't let him rattle you." Vorbuk warned the prince. Black mana from Vorbuk began to blend into the prince's sword as he released his own flame. A black fire coating the weapon as he cautiously moved towards the god.

Chynir did not even need to pull a weapon out in order to block the prince's movements. Every time the prince swung his sword Chynir's body would gracefully slide out of the way effortlessly. Just when the prince thought his sword would manage to strike Chynir he was left frozen. Through the black flame the god's hand grasp hold of the sword.
