Curtis stood in the king's room with a glass of wine in his hand. Out of the corner of his eye he could see the place where his father had died on the floor. Memories of his father's final moments flashing in the back of his mind. A cold gleam in his eyes as he stood there.
"Why do you hate your family so much?" Chete's voice could be heard coming from the side of the room.
"I don't hate my family." Curtis answered simply.
You do not hate your family yet you killed them? Chete did not buy into the words Curtis spoke.
"Then do you hate your brother, Prince Leo?" Chete asked daringly.
"Do you think I hate my brother?" Curtis questioned Chete back for asking him.
Why are you asking me now? Chete thought to himself while looking at Curtis with a curious expression.
"Yes." Chete hesitated to respond as he felt danger possibly hidden behind that question. However he felt strange instead as Curtis did not react to his answer. Instead he smiled into his wine glass before chugging the rest of the wine down. Placing the glass down on the table beside him.
"Do you think you are a healer now? I kept you alive and you think I will answer anything you ask me?" Curtis questioned the motive behind Chete's questions. It felt like the cambion was prying into his personal life. He disliked being questioned about his brother, Leo.
"Of course not," The sudden question sent chills down Chete's spine. "I am a demon of deals after all. We made a deal in exchange for my life. Would it not be more strange if I was not curious who I made a deal with?"
Curtis looked at the cambion with cold eyes before turning to gaze out the window. A sigh escaping him as he thought about Chete's question.
Do I hate my brother?
No, rather then hate... Curtis could not understand what he felt himself. He wanted to destroy his brother and take everything that he felt should be his. No matter who it was in his family he was willing to kill them all and remove them from his way. That was all he saw his brother as; someone who was simply in his way. He did not consider what he felt towards Prince Leo to be hate but simply the means to an end.
"Seriously," Chete couldn't stop himself from asking. "Do you not regret any of what you've done? Don't you humans usually hold great importance on family?"
Curtis flinched as he thought there was no regret in the choices he'd made so far. For some reason the thought of his reoccurring nightmares lately had started happening. Thinking that they should only be a coincidence and had nothing to do with what he'd done. Feeling that he had no reason to feel guilty for any bit of it.
"I have nothing to regret." Curtis spoke with a straight face. His beautiful blond hair falling along his shoulders as he tilted his head back against the frame of the window. His blue eyes gazing out into the night sky as his thoughts felt like they were clearer then ever before. "Get out. I want to be alone."
"Yes, your majesty." Chete bowed without complaint and turned to leave the room.
When stepping out of the room he closed the door behind him. Heading down the hallway as he checked his surroundings carefully. He did not like to take risks and over the years developed a natural habit to check himself for others tailing him. This talent of his was what had made it difficult for Curtis's men to catch him. Now that he was bound to Curtis by a deal he'd made, to ensure Curtis spared his life, it was impossible for him to wander freely. The time he got to himself was very little as Curtis did not trust Chete in the least.
Thuuudddddd! Thudddd! Thuddddd!
The floor began to shake under Chete's feet causing him to stumble for a second. Regaining his balance he began to rush towards the end of the hallway. Continuing to run, Chete rushed outside the palace. His steps freezing at the sight of what he found before him. Several dragons hovered in the sky above the palace while a large golden dragon stood outside the palace. Its eyes glancing around at the knights beneath it who were shuddering in fear of the beast.
Lowering its head to the ground Chynir began to step down from the dragon to the ground. Making his way down the head of the dragon gracefully til he stood on the ground. The pressure that Chynir gave off caused several knights to collapse to their hands and knees unable to catch their breath. The god's presence was too much for them to handle.
"Dragons... Dragons.. Shouldn't they be in Axania?" Chete shuddered at the sight in front of him while muttering to himself. His face was pale as he looked at the sight in front of him.
Did this crazy god destroy the dragon's homeland?! Chete felt himself panic inside as he thought about what might have happened to the dragon's kingdom.
Standing still Chete could feel the heavy pressure from Chynir as the god stepped pass him and into the palace. Chynir was probably looking for Curtis after returning to Cadirade palace. Chete did not follow after Chynir to find him. In fact Chete wanted to remain as far away from Chynir as he could possibly get.
Instead Chete stepped outside towards the golden dragon.
ROOOARRRRRRRR!!!
The golden dragon's roar echoed under the starry night. The light of the moon reflecting beautifully off the dragon's golden scaled body. It was a large dragon the could make any man falter in their approach. He could see the look in its eyes that gave no sign of weakness in the dragon's will. If the dragon was not under Chynir's control it would probably be a magnificent creature.
"So," Chete knew the dragon could not respond to him as he spoke. "They got you too, huh?"
A deep bellow could be heard coming from the dragon's throat. Its eyes cautiously observing the cambion as he stood next to it. He could not tell if the dragon was listening to him or debating on swallowing him whole for approaching it.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
The dragon turned away from Chete and opened its wings wide. Its actions were slow but due to the wings size they sent a strong breeze against Chete and the knights as the dragon moved.
A loud pounding noise could be heard as the dragon's wings beat againnst the air. The dragon's body lifting up as it rose into the night sky. Getting closer to the other dragons its size was impressive. Other dragons would avoid the golden dragon as it flew by dodging to the sides. It seemed as if they were afraid to anger the golden dragon by getting in its way.
Chete watched the scene in the sky for a while. He knew that the dragons were being controlled by Chynir. It was not something he could deal with if he wanted to. The only thing Chete could do was watch the situation for now. Since he was currently stuck in the palace with Curtis he could not do anything to damage his safety. Chete also knew there was no method he could use to free the dragons from the state they were in. Feeling upset over the state of the dragons would only be a waste of time for him.
Closing his eyes he could only hope that things would turn out for the better in the end.
