The flames were hot as Vorbuk ran with Daryl and Chase. They did not head directly through the battlefield. Instead they curved away from it and headed away from the enemy.
Grrrr... Crunch!
The wolf growled as it jumped. Biting down on the neck of a enemy knight that had attempted to aim an attack in his direction. He could feel the werewolf knight's neck snapping from the pressure in his beastly jaws. The taste of iron in his mouth from the blood.
Shiingg! Clang!
Vorbuk could hear the sound of Daryl's sword cutting down knights from behind. The wolf's ear flicking back as he listened to his surroundings. Though not a lot of enemies had caught on to them it was inevitable that a few had still noticed. It was impossible for them to leave the temple completely unnoticed from the beginning. He understood that from the start.
The tiger, Chase, stepped up beside the wolf. Watching a black fog envelope around Vorbuk as he slowly morphed into his human form. A light purr echoed from the tiger as it felt the man's hand pat against the top of his head. Vorbuk stepped passed the tiger towards the direction of the enemy camp.
As the three of them moved onward they carefully circled around the knight's camp. Several men were spread out around the outer part of the camp to keep guard against others. Keeping a distance they observed as they found a spot covered by heavy plant life. The plants were enough to carefully hide among as they crouched down, watching and listening to the camp from a distance.
They started to move closer to the camp. Moving as quietly as possible til they were near enough to see the knight on guard where they were. Vorbuk began to ready himself to move forward. Not noticing that Chase started to creep towards the enemy knight that was in front of them.
Mroar?
The tiger's ears flicked as it was unable to move any further. Glancing behind itself the tiger's gaze landed on Daryl. He was holding the tiger by the back of it's neck. Preventing Chase from going any further.
"Children should remain in the middle." Daryl whispered his words in the tiger's ears.
Chase wasn't sure what he had done wrong. When he looked to Vorbuk for answers all he received was a silent glare. The tiger felt wronged.
After making sure that Chase was no longer going to move forward Vorbuk crept towards the knight. Controlling his mana the shadows guided his steps. Every step Vorbuk made was soundless like a phantom. It took a lot of focus but with every step Vorbuk felt like the shadows were becoming more of a part of himself.
Nearing the man from behind Vorbuk reached out. With his hands carefully controlling the movement of the shadows they began to move. Darkness spiking out from the ground in order to pierce the knight's heart right through his armor. There was no time for the man to scream. The speed was so quick that the man died instantly.
The shadows receded back into the surroundings slowly.
Thud!
A soft thud could be heard as the knight's body landed on the ground once the shadows were gone.
Vorbuk could hear Daryl and Chase rushing up to him from behind. Before anyone had time to notice them they made their way into the enemy camp. Slipping their away around the camp as they hid among the sides of the tents. An average knight would not be able to recognize Daryl or Vorbuk at first glance. As long as they avoided eye contact if they came across a busy knight it was difficult for someone to not realize they weren't some new recruit.
"We should locate the King's tent quickly." Daryl whispered to Vorbuk as he observed their surroundings. They were moving quickly because they could not waste time lingering around the enemy camp.
"There." Vorbuk pointed in the direction of a horse. He recognized it as the mount the king was riding. "He must be around this area somewhere. Look carefully but don't get caught." Vorbuk whispered to Daryl.
Searching the tents as they moved along the camp quietly they looked for the king's tent. There were not a lot of tents that the king's tent could possibly be. The moment the tent landed in Vorbuk's sight it stood out for him. It was secluded yet had knights standing guard over the area. It was clearly a tent that belonged to someone of higher status among the knights.
"That must be it." Daryl said what Vorbuk was thinking. They could hear the low growl from the tiger beside them.
Flap.
The tent's doorway was opened as the king stepped outside of the tent. Following behind some of his knights as he headed in the direction of the battlefield. He was not prepared for battle. Vorbuk assumed he was going to meet someone, most likely the general that was fighting against the pope right now.
"Should we follow?" Daryl asked.
"No," Vorbuk answered simply before sneaking up behind the tent. Leaning his head to the side he listened to the inside of the tent. There was no sounds coming from inside allowing him to believe the tent was empty. "Let's go."
"What are you doing?" Daryl asked the man who was acting as if he was on a scavenger hunt.
"Shouldn't we investigate our enemy well?" Vorbuk responded with a question of his own.
Lifting the side of the tent up Vorbuk slipped inside of it. Army tents were not like earth's camping tents. They did not cover the ground. Vorbuk was easily able to lift the tent's cloth from the back and slip under it and right inside the tent itself.
Inside the tent Vorbuk searched the king's things. From paperwork to books he looked over everything. Listening to the sounds outside while Daryl and Chase slipped inside with him. Daryl quickly understood what Vorbuk was doing and looked for anything important that was kept by the king. Whether it was something minor or something important Daryl stuffed things away that could be of use to them in the future.
"Are they targets for God Chynir?" Daryl whispered as he stepped up beside Vorbuk to see what he was reading.
Vorbuk was holding a paper firm in his hands. Reading over the contents of it. It was a copy of the gods that the king had made for Chynir. King Luke had kept a copy for himself and it was now in Vorbuk's hands. Quickly stuffing the paper inside his clothing Vorbuk smiled to himself.
Are they trying to wage war against the gods as well? Vorbuk wondered why Chynir would be willing to go so far. Chynir doesn't hate just mortals but the gods as well. He felt exhausted with this god.
"Does he really think he can fight against both the mortals and the divine?" Vorbuk wanted to laugh at Chynir's madness.
"We can debate about that later." Daryl tried to snap Vorbuk back into their current situation. This was not the place to get carried away with yourself.
"Alright, let's get ready." Vorbuk said as he sighed.
