The two guards stood behind Aniello as they exited the elevator into the corridor lined with cells. It was cold down here and lighting was at a minimum. It was going to be a long walk to get all the way to cell 9356 so Aniello had all the time he needed to plan out his escape.
He was lucky he wasn't restrained but the two soldiers were far away enough to be out of reach and have enough time to react with their weapons. So those were his targets he just needed the small one-handed weapon attached to one of the soldier's waists and he'd have all the firepower he'd need to get out of this murderous place.
A while later, the three of them reached the cell and one of the soldiers used a communication device to have the cell door opened. A buzzer sounded in the corridor and the door opened for Aniello to enter. But he stayed put.
"Enter the cell!" commanded one of the soldiers. Aniello just looked into the cell without moving. The soldiers were getting impatient and one of them started to walk over to Aniello. They grabbed his arm and went to push Aniello in but a sharp pain in their stomach make them freeze. They soon fell to the floor with a hole in their armour and the other soldier looked on in shock. They too were met with a sharp pain but in their chest this time and fell to the floor.
Aniello started running back down the corridor the way they had come with the small weapon in his hand. Two soldiers exited the elevator before he could reach it. They must have been sent to stop Aniello when the surveillance saw him take out the two soldiers. Aniello took them out as well before they could react and got in the elevator.
A couple of button presses later and Aniello was on his way up. He'd just need to take a ship from the landing bay and he'd be free with supplies to last him until he found a new home. Suddenly, the elevator stopped and the lights went out. Power to the elevator had been shut off to trap him. Aniello gripped at the doors and tried to pull them open. It took a few seconds but he got a gap in the doors which he wedged his foot in before opening the doors fully. He was between two floors but he was able to wriggle himself up onto the higher floor and looked around.
He was hundreds of floors below where he needed to be and soldiers would arrive at any moment to either detain him or worse. He ran over to a screen that gave directions and typed in where to find the fastest way off the ship. The screen showed that there were escape pods a couple of levels down so Aniello started running for the stairs.
12 flights of stairs later, Aniello was on the brink of collapsing from exhaustion. He exited the stairs and travelled down a corridor which lead to the edge of the ship. Lined along the walls were metal hatches that opened up to escape pods. Aniello opened the nearest one and clambered in. A projectile barely missed his head and struck the control panel. Aniello turned around and saw dozens of soldiers getting ready to fire on him. He closed the hatch and locked it. The projectiles barely made a scratch on the metal but Aniello wasn't going to hang around and wait for them to get bigger weapons. He tried to launch but the controls were basically destroyed from the projectile that hit them. The best he could do was launch and hope he landed safely. He pressed the launch button and the pod leapt forward and began propelling itself forward.
A screen came up with Achille's face on it. She looked pretty beat upand was breathing heavily even if she tried to hide it.
"Aniello! Turn that pod around and return to the ship!" demanded Achille. Aniello looked at her then out in front of the pod.
"No. You don't order me around anymore. I'm quitting Dark Nebula and starting a new life. A life away from all the murder and lies." replied Aniello. Before Achille could reply, Aniello turned off the reciever. Achille's face dissappeared from the screen but a warning took her place. The screen showed the pod's trajectory and predicted he would crash land somewhere in the middle of the ocean.
