Day 33

When Kyle opened the card for his thirty-third birthday, Abraham was there but not himself. He was acting fidgety and kept on looking at me when he thought I didn't see him looking.

Still, despite the weirdness, Kyle read his birthday card with his usual gusto. "This birthday, you spend alone because you got in a fight with your wife. It becomes a year of reflection." Kyle allowed the words to sink in for a moment. "Must've been one hell of a fight to turn it into a year of reflection."

Abraham deadpanned, "You cheated on your wife, didn't you?"

"Ha! That actually makes sense. Thank you for your input, Abraham," I replied.

"Anytime Renata," he answered as color reached his cheeks. Quickly, he got up as he said, "I have to go rehearse some lines for a play."

"What's the play?" asked Kyle.

"Grease. I'm Danny," said Abraham.

"Congratulations, they finally roped you in for another lead role!" Even though Kyle was enthusiastic, Abraham's face flashed an expression of guilt.

"You would've made a great Danny too, you know."

"I know," said Kyle coolly, his confidence unwavering.
