Chapter 37: LUNCH DATE

A smile doesn't always mean a person is happy. Sometimes, it just means they are strong enough to face their own problems, so always remember that you are only given the life you are strong enough to live, and if one day you don't feel strong enough, that's why you are given friends. Ru Lan led the group to the dining area in her office. As expected of a foodie, she didn't have a resting area in her office but she made sure to have a dining area. When Jason and the rest saw this, they had the same thoughts in their minds but nobody spoke and the just tagged along. Once they entered, Ru Lan went to the sink to wash her hands and sat down on the chair without bothering about the looks they were giving her.

"Jason, didn't you say there's a surprise lunch? I'm ready" Ru Lan spoke with Gusto.

Jason nodded his head. "Uncle Ye, please serve the dishes" Jason said and sat down as well.

BRrrrrr.... Ru Lan's stomach growled as she perceived the smell of the food once Butler Ye opened up the series of flasks he had brought. He served the meal. It was sea food stir fry pasta with scallops and vegetables. It looked so mesmerizing once it was plated like dishes served at top notch restaurants. There was also mango juice which happened to be Ru Lan's favourite fruit juice.

Sounds of swallowing could be heard as she swallowed her saliva. She was like a fan girl who had just met her idol for the first time. She was so happy and her happiness could not be described in words.

Jason did not miss any of his girl's facial expressions, he had already fisted a "hell yeah" sign in his mind several times. It was taking him all his self control to not yell out loud and just keep his composure.

Assistant Ju Long and Fiona were no better as they were the ones that were watching the couple who were not doing anything but had butterflies flying in the air. Ru Lan was busy worshipping the food been served and Jason was worshipping her majesty.

Once the food was served, the table was filled with delicacies that Ru Lan loved. "turns out you really know me Jason. This is my favourite food in the whole wide world. I'm so happy" she said to Jason.

"i only aim to please ma'am". Jason said

One who didn't know would think that this amazing spread was made by Jason. But alas, we still have to give him a little credit. At least he threatened the butler to make the food.

"Ahem Ahem" the butler coughed to remind the couple that other people were still there.

"you can go now Uncle Ye, Ju Long will bring back your plates. Thank you" Jason said.

"Yes young master" butler Ye bowed and was about to leave when Ru Lan thanked him too.

"Thanks Uncle Ye, i haven't had food made by you and aunt Liu in a while. I'm sure it will be delicious."

"You are welcome Dr Ru. Its my duty. Enjoy your meal". He replied and left.

"i'll wait downstairs boss" Assistant Ju Long said.

"i also have work to do. Nice to meet you again brother-in-law" Fiona said and winked at Ru Lan. "Enjoy your meal boss" she said and they both made to leave. They were not masochist, and they definitely wouldn't wait around this couple and get tortured for nothing.

Once they left, Ru Lan let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding and got down to business. "Hungry?" Jason asked her.

"Famished" she said and put the food she had spooned with her fork into her mouth.

"Are they always like that?" Fiona asked Ju Long as they walked away.

"you haven't seen nothing yet, it's just been a few days and i think I've gotten 10 years older from this new couple. It's definitely punishing." Ju Long replied her.

"Hahahaha" they both burst out laughing. When they realise what they were doing? They both coughed at the same time and the awkwardness returned. Fiona went to her office and Ju Long went to the cafeteria to get his own lunch.

Back at Ru Lan's office.

They had finished eating and were still siting in the dining area while making small talks.

"DBK huh! I wouldn't have known you are the mysterious designer that has eluded everyone's sights for years. Good for you" Jason said.

Ru Lan just smiled and said "Designing has always been my true dream. Medicine and business are just things i picked up along the way."

"An award winning neurosurgeon is saying medicine is something she picked up along the way. I'm sure it's not hard to understand. It's not brain surgery after all."

"Hahahaha, you're one to talk Mr ruthless CEO. Your name alone brings shivers to the hearts of people in the business world and in general. My sister that loves to sleep so much practically ditched her sleep to work all the night the first time you came around. She was so scared of you and it was so annoying that i even promised to beat you up" Ru Lan said.

"Beat me up huh!" Jason said with his brows raised indicating how surprised he was to hear her say that.

"Well, in my defense, i didn't know it was you and you were able to scare Lei so much from miles away. I'd never seen her like that so i was furious." Ru Lan said

"Still want to beat me up?" he asked her

"Why, do you want to exchange a few blows with me?" she said and winked at him.

"i'm not quite sure you're capable, can you take it?" Jason said.

"frankly i don't think you can take me, i'm sure" she said playfully. Who was Ru Lan, she loved anything dangerous.

"Daisy, oh my Daisy, its not nice to play with fire. You might just get burnt darling" Jason said.

"But if i don get burnt, how will i know how it feels like to get burnt?" she asked him in return.

"That's a good point you made there".

Before they could continue messing around, Ju Long rushed inside the room and went to whisper something to Jason. "There's trouble Boss" he bent down and said a few words in Jason's ear.

"Looks like playtime is over Daisy, i gotta go deal with something" Jason said and stood up.

"you're leaving, is there anything i can help you with?" she asked and stood up too. She had noticed the drastic change in Jason's aura when Ju Long talked to him.

"No problems at all darling, it looks like i just have to make a few hearts shiver. Not to worry. Besides I wouldn't want to scare you"

"Sometimes, the best shivers doesn't come from colds but from heat instead. Give 'em Hell" she said with a smirk.

Jason was so proud of her words, he had always known that she was as ruthless as he was, if not more. She was so fierce and it was one of the many things he loved about her. He walked up to her and placed a kiss on her cherry lips. Ru Lan was not the type to shy away from public displays of affection. She was not a girly girl after all. She took it all in her stride and enjoyed every touch of his.

Assistant Ju Long felt Goosebumps as he listened to the couple's exchange. They were so evil and he could feel the hair on his skin stand. He also knew what this woman was capable of, it was also one of the reasons he feared her so much. Don't get it wrong, Ju Long was not a kind person either. People who were in the know also dread to have a visit from him, but here he was shivering from a conversation between his boss and his woman.

After the brief exchange, Jason turned to leave, when he saw that Ju Long had been standing there all along, and he was reminded of how he had teased him earlier today, he decided to do something that will make him even more angry. He stopped and turned back to look at Ru Lan. "I'll let you have a go at it with Ju Long first. He's quite capable and if you can beat him, i'll naturally exchange a few blows with you. What do you say?"

Ru Lan just smiled and looked at Ju Long as she cracked her knuckles. "As long as he is up for it. what do you say special Assistant Ju Long?"

Ju Long opened his eyes wide in surprise, he could not believe for the life of him that his brother/bestfriend/boss will betray him in such a manner. He looked at Jason and saw him smirk. Then he looked at Ru Lan and saw her face filled with expectation. "Not interested. Not interested at all" he waved both his hands in front of him to relay his determination.

"It's not acceptable for a gentleman to shy away from a challenge" Ru Lan said

"I'm not a gentleman Dr Ru. I'm not a gentleman at all. That will be my boss. Not me. So i refuse. Thank you very much"

"He has accepted. I'll relay to you the place and time darling. train hard till then. He is not to be under-estimated"

"No need for that. Just let me know when and where, i really need to stretched these old bones of mine." Ru Lan said

Then Jason left with Ju Long in tow. He was gloomy the entire ride back to the office. Even when he reported about the situation with the project to Jason, he was very mechanical with no emotions at all. He was still bitter that Jason had set him up in such a way. All he wished for was that Jason's other assistant Kai would have returned by then.

Ru Lan was ecstatic. She didn't just enjoy lunch with her new boyfriend, she also scored herself a fight. Looks like this boyfriend isn't so bad after all.
