CHAPTER 38: FAMILY

We can complain because rose bushes have thorns or we can rejoice because thorn bushes have roses. On the way back to the office, the car was very silent and stuffy. No one was saying anything and Ju Long didn't dare make fun of his boss because the aura that Jason was currently exuding was just too thick, it could cut through a wall. Suddenly Ju Long heard the man laugh.

"Ju Long, it seems some people think me laying low makes me a pushover. In order to be in charge you really do have to topple the ones in charge." Jason said to Ju Long. He was someone that had grown through hardship in life to achieve the power he currently possesses. They say money makes the world go round but few people know that money is just an incentive and having all the money in the world will not necessarily make you powerful. The real thing that makes the world go round is power. Jason had to find this out the hard way after the loss of his brother and those were some of the darkest times of his life. It made the sunny Jason become the dark and scary Jason. One of the worst things that could happen to anyone in life is losing yourself along with your own losses.

Ju Long did not reply to his boss. He was one of his best friends and he knew what he was thinking because the Jason he knew would never allow himself to be number two again since that puts you at the mercy of number one and leaves you in danger at the receiving end of Number One's fury. He dared say that if Jason referred to himself as number two, then no one would claim they were number one. How naive of these people that are yet to feel his wrath.

"Call Dali and give the order. Tell him it's time to come home" Jason said while looking out the window of the moving car. When he came back to N Nation, he knew that he was going to take power but he wanted to slowly take over preferably with fewer casualties but some people would just not let sleeping dogs lie.

"What's the code for this boss?" Ju Long asked. He didn't try to talk him out of this decision he had made because he knew that it was going to come anyway.

"Bow or Die, No exceptions" Jason said coldly. Ju Long felt a shiver run up his spine as he heard the order Jason had given. There was a storm coming to City E and the so called people in power are smacked right in the middle of it, only they don't know because they'd never see it coming anyway.

When Ru Lan got home that night it was already pretty late and she was dead tired. This weekend is going to be her Uncle K's wedding and the whole family was going to Tahiti for the celebrations.

The moment she entered the room, she felt that something was wrong, because her whole family were still awake and sitting in the sitting room, when she entered they all turned to look at her with wide grins. She knew something was fishy but she just couldn't put her finger on it. she stood at the door and refused to advance into the tigers den.

When she saw the look that Ru Lei was giving her, Bam... it hit her. That tattletale had already ratted her out. She hugged her bag tightly to her chest and made to run out of the room. "Ah Ah Ah Ah..... Don't you dare run young lady, mommy made you pie." She heard mama Ru say, and that was how she knew she was done for.

"hehehehe, what are you talking about mom, i just wanted to see if the door is locked properly, how could i run away from the four beautiful looking ferocious human beings called family who are right in front of me. I love you all and that's no Joke." Ru Lan quickly explained awkwardly.

"hmm hmm, as expected of my niece, she's the best and she's not sneaky at all." Uncle K said.

All the servant that were still awake because their masters had not gone to bed yet were snickering on the side. They really love this family. The ambience was always so peaceful and their two young mistresses were absolutely the best, no doubt.

Ru Lan made her way to them, she made her way to her father who had not said anything from the beginning. She hugged him and started praising him to the moon. She thought it was going to work this time because it always did in the past. But what he said this time caught her off guard. "Alright my darling, you can sit down and tell us about him now." Papa Ru said.

As the minister of foreign affairs, Papa Ru was not always home as he always travelled to different countries for official business coupled with the fact that he was still an agent for the Keltons and his Job as the minister of foreign affairs made him have lots of missions that took him away from home.

Yes Ru Lan was one of his masters but she insisted on calling him dad and maintaining their father-daughter relationship even after she found out. She had already taken them both as her parents, so after she found out that being her parents was the mission given to them by her parents, she still choose to maintain their familial ties and her parents even agreed to her request when they were still alive.

The Ru family was one of the guardian families of the Keltons. They were placed in N Nation to establish their foothold in the nation. The Keltons are one of the most powerful Families in the world and they have several other families like the Ru's in several different countries. Even so, they were still Ru Lan's guardians as long as she is in N Nation, her safety is their top priority. Ru Lan's father Zhou Haiyu, the late renowned neurosurgeon in F Nation was also one of such guardians. He took care of Ru Lan with his wife Susan Reagan (mama Ru) until he died before passing them on to Ru Zhehan, he was just following the directives from the family, and that was how Ru Lan also became a Ru.

Although, they didn't have any blood ties, they were still the best family and their love for each other was not fake. Whoever said family had to be related by blood. The people in the Ru Family were all top notch agents and they were loyal to the Keltons to the tee. Mama Ru and Papa Ru were the only Parents Ru Lan had left since the death of her biological parents and she acknowledged them with her whole heart. Her acknowledgement has also made her twin brother Dessy acknowledge the Ru's as mom and dad too. They all originated from the North and none of them were N nationals.

"Earth to Ru Lan" Ru Lei snapped her fingers and said when she noticed that Ru Lan was in a daze. "Oh! Where were we?" Ru Lan asked.

"Wow! Nice moves sis, real smooth, were you thinking of changing the topic by pretending to be in deep thought?" Ru Lei said again. She was having so much fun knowing she had successfully put Ru Lan on the spot. Ru Lan just rolled her eyes at her and focused on the task at hand. She was going to tell them anyway, its just that she wanted to wait until after her uncle K's wedding, besides she doesn't even know what the future holds for her and Jason. They might have been looking for each other for five years, but the truth is that she didn't really know him and she felt like she was going too fast. She took a deep breath and asked "What do you want to know?"

"Everything darling. We want to know everything so please start from the beginning" mama Ru said.

"He's the person I've been looking for, turns out he's such a big shot" Ru Lan said.

"You mean the one from five years ago?" mama Ru asked. It was no secret that Ru Lan was searching for the guy that saved her five years ago. She had even given up on her search after not finding him for so long. Fate is such a mysterious thing.

"Yes mom, the one from five years ago" Ru Lan said, by now her eyes were already filled with unshed tears.

"Are you sure darling? Have you confirmed it?" papa Ru asked. They had all helped Ru Lan in this search for a long time and their network was quite huge. He couldn't help but think that there's a motive in his appearance after five years. His gut was telling him that this was no coincidence.

"It's him Dad. I'd know him even if i was on my death bed, plus he's the CEO of FYN GROUP so i don't think he's lying dad. Its him and he even told me everything that happened afterwards" by now tears were already streaming from her eyes because her search for Jason had put her through so much.

Her mom got up and went to envelop her in a big hug, she kept patting her on her back "It's alright baby girl. Turns out God loves you after all. He even brought your prince charming to you". She was so happy that Ru Lan finally found something positive. She knew she had trouble sleeping and cried on most nights. She was so relieved.

The atmosphere in the sitting room was now somber. Even Ru Lei who just wanted to tease her sister felt bad because she ended up making her sister cry. Uncle K was also very happy for his niece.

After a while, the air had gone back to normal and it was already time for the family to call it a night so papa Ru told Ru Lan to invite Jason for dinner after Uncle K's Wedding. Everyone then dispersed and went to their various rooms, except Ru Lei of course who followed Ru Lan to her room for their normal nightly routine.
