Lei Family preliminary tournament

It took both of them some time to get over the vast wealth gap between them and the other invited.

Although Du Lan was the first one, even she had taken a few gulps when comparing her clothing to theirs.

When they got inside the white mansion behind Lei Tao's butler, they were guided into a hall which if one looked from its windows, an arena could be seen down below.

As they got into the room, there were already a lot of people mingling about with other guests, and their arrival didn't attract a lot of eyes.

Those eyes which they did attract was because they knew the who's Lei Tao's butler, but that didn't seem to have a good impression, they noted while they were walked over where Lei Tao was mingling with a few men.

Seeing the man itself was Lei Tao completely different compared to the one they had met when at the north gate.

The Lei Tao they now saw was a quiet man, who frequently made small laughs and gazed downwards while the other two men looked him with the same look he did towards peasants on the streets.

From this, despite Xiao Fan not being the smartest to see who was in charge could distinctly tell that Lei Tao wasn't well-liked in the Lei Family.

They were taken behind Lei Tao after which the butler made them clear that they should stay here and hang around Lei Tao for now.

Then the butler took his leave.

Now behind Lei Tao, the two men talking to him skimmed through them, but their gazes didn't stay on them for long before going back on Lei Tao.

Standing there somewhat behind the trio, both of them could still clearly hear what the two of his supposed brothers were talking about Lei Tao.

¨Brother I didn't think you would drag some mortals from the street to represent you in our preliminary tournament. You know that this is a tournament for cultivators and not for children that you have¨ The other man with a small beard noted about Xiao Fan and Du Lan as if they were some weak racehorses.

Then the man turned to show his vares with an open arm ¨Look at these brothers! Both both of them are eligible to join the youth tournament and are at the second grade of Body Warming realm, both of them have good chances to be top fifty there¨

He presented two youth around the ages of Xiao Fan and Du Lan, who were his chosen people for the tournament in Hangzhou.

His two brothers nodded in unison while the other one also presented his champion for the tournament ¨You all ready know who will be fighting for me this time¨

¨it will be no other than my son Lei Kang, who has already broken into the fourth grade of Body Warming realm¨ He with his hands pushed a boy almost twenty in front of him.

Now that two of the three brothers had introduced their champions both of them looked at Lei Tao expecting a good show that the family fatso would bring with him; however, to their surprise this time Lei Tao didn't look down our try laugh it off as he started speaking.

¨Congratulations my brothers for finding such good picks. But now I would like to introduce you Xiao Fan and Du Lan. They are people I met through one of my caravan trips and decided to help their families than, but who would have thought that years later they were coming here to Hefei to repay their gratitude for me¨

¨What is even weirder was how both of them had become cultivators at such a young age. Du Lan here is in the first grade while Xiao Fan is in the third grade of Body Warming realm¨ He while announcing pushed both of them to his side.

¨they will be my champions this time¨ Doing this felt amazing to Lei Tao, as it was the first time in years he could speak to his brothers with a straight back.

Both of his brothers also frowned.

Lei Tao just introduced two cultivators? Did they hear right or what? Is the man really a third grade Body Warming realm cultivator? How in the hell did the fatso get such champions?

Especially the man who had small beard took a look at Xiao Fan and then at his two champions who were lower by a grade, and his eyes looked like he wanted to change the two for him.

Meanwhile, the adults were competing about who had the strongest and fastest racehorse. The five youths also took looks at each other, trying to see anything from them.

Or at least four of them did while Lei Kang felt like they were some peasants and were already below him by a grade so why should he care about them?

Lei Kang aside, the other two were a shy girl that didn't seem like a lot while next to her was a lanky boy whose hands were almost like a few ropes tied together.

Xiao Fan didn't think a whole lot about them expect Lei Kang, who should be a challenge he might lose against.

On the other hand, Du Lan, who was the weakest youth taking part in this was much more calculative and so tried to see anything she could use in a fight against them.

The youths aside, the two brothers of Lei Tao for once congratulated him before continued to chat about the tournament as equals.

They might not know where the two of them had come here, but if they were here as Lei Family champions, they didn't mind.

Moreover, they didn't hate their brother, of course, but they picked on him because of his fatness and overall incompetence compared to them.

Everyone in Hefei knew that the Lei Family had two adult lions Lei Fen the oldest who fathered Lei Kang and the man with a small beard Lei Tian.

And then there was the fat pig Lei Tao last of the three brothers in everything. They had attracted these names from young.

Lei Tao has only gotten far enough to be called a cultivator while the real lions both were Body Strengthening realm strong; this in mind they had gotten these names pretty quickly.

Furthermore, these names had spread so far that even the person they were going to meet knew of them.

And this person they were going the meet was their very own father who hadn't tried to block these names that might talk good about Lei Jun's firstborn sons but demean Lei Tao, as he had the very same mindset.

The only thing saving Lei Tao from him reprimanding was how much he brought back from those caravans that he had led before. However, now that no caravan mowed between cities his love for him had fallen to a new bottom.

Anyone in the room could see how Lei Jun's face twitched a little when his eyes went over Lei Tao who was approaching him with his brothers who he held in high regards.

Du Lan keeping track of everything could now discern why Lei Tao had wanted so many favours from them and nothing else. He was banking on them becoming something great.

When they walked before Lei Jun, everyone in the hall became silent and focussed on the father and his sons.

¨Father¨ The three brothers bowed towards their father patriarch of Lei Family and patiently waited for his words before speaking anything.

Lei Jun took a small look at them before rising his hand for them to rise as his eyes then wandered over to his champions for the tournament to be.

Others might call them champions of the three direct descendants of Lei Jun, but he didn't, he thought them more like his, they had been anyway given this task to find some people by him to represent the Lei Family, so they were his.

¨State your name and cultivation¨ He asked everyone even Lei Kang about their cultivation and something more while everyone else in the room was listening to their family's champions talking to their patriarch.

He first asked Lei Kang, who just grumbled something and stated that he would crush his enemies and bring glory to Lei Family in the tournament.

To this, Lei Jun didn't say anything about his grandchildren's manners outwardly; he kept the talk short.

The picks Lei Tian had, introduced themselves as Lei Lin, the shy girl who came from the Lei family, she just happened to be good enough at cultivation reaching second grade before everyone else.

The other one under Lei Tian was Su Guanting, a Hefei City talent who had become a retainer to Lei Tian after Lei Tian heavily investing in him.

Both of them also said to bring glory to Lei Family when they ended their speech.

Then the fourth one to be inspected was a woman who had a bag in which one could see a distinct outline of a bow ¨State your name and cultivation¨ Lei Jun spoke to Du Lan the same way he had to everyone else before.

Stating her name and cultivation did make Lei Jun little happy, but not because of her cultivation as the Lei Family did have plenty of youths who had become cultivators.

Lei Jun was pleased because this one was employed by Lei Tao, who like Du Lan was a first-grade cultivator which to he made a helpless chuckle.

¨I see that you are carrying a bow. I take that you are an archer, correct?¨

Lei Jun had asked every champion something about them as all of these youth would most likely end becoming major players at Hefei City, later on. As even if she was a little on the low side, she might be an archer, and archery cultivators were always rare and something that cities were always wanting to attract more.

This was also the one thing why he decided to ask her anything extra, for he, who had defended Hefei from a few sieges knew what a good cultivator with specialisation in bows could do in a siege.

There was nothing more satisfying to wake up than hearing that a person like her had killed an unsuspecting enemy cultivator with her bow during the night.

Du Lan also knew how people in higher positions treated her trade, and knew its advantages and respect it holds ¨Yes I have specialisation with a bow even my awakening was completely for the path of the bow¨ She politely replied to him while taking her bow out of the bag.

The Serpent's Bone Bow fit right into the decoration and mood of this the hall they were in, the bone-white limbs and hold that was carved by herself from scratch looked beautiful to anyone's eyes.

When the initial awe had passed Lei Jun, he made hand movements for her to bring it closer to him so that he could see the small details in the carving more.

To this, she was willing, and so without a word, she walked to him, but before giving it, she demonstrates how strong the string was by drawing the bow much as she could in front of him.

Lei Jun became even more appreciative of the bow when seeing that it wasn't only for show, but that it had some major draw requirements to it.

When Lei Jun got his hands on the bow, he took a good look at it before drawing the bow himself.

Unlike Du Lan, who couldn't pull it back, the seventy-some-year-old monster like Lei Jun was could simply draw the bow back while feeling the tinies whit something trying to hold his hand back.

¨Excelent bow from which shop did you get it?¨ He asked since he would very much so like to send someone after everything had calmed down to fetch him a few of these.

Du Lan chuckled a bit when hearing this as the old man thought that he had gotten it from some shop ¨Patriarch this bow isn't from a shop¨ She replied to his inquiry.

Lei Jun frowned a bit; it seemed that getting this type of a bow could be hard ¨Then was it made by some wandering master or a treasure perhaps¨ He curiously asked since after all, he was fanatic towards bows and hearing that this bow wasn't from a shop his curiosity only rose.

By now, everyone who was in the room had their opinion of Du Lan rise by the sentence she changed with Lei Jun about the bow. Especially Lei Kang felt strongly irritated about how much time she was getting in the spotlight.

¨Patriarch I didn't get it from someone. The materials are from a snake that Xiao Fan there and I slew a week ago on our way here to meet Lei Tao, the craftmanship is mine ¨ She politely said and tried to get the bow from him before he would bogart it for himself.

This left Lei Jun shocked enough that she could snatch the bow back from him.
