Lei Family preliminary tournament 2

Maybe not a lot of people in the room immediately got what Du Lan had just said to Lei Jun, but Lei Jun himself knew very much from what kind of material a bow like that was made.

That bow wasn't crafted from some spine of a cow or something cheap. It was crafted from at least a Body Activation realm mutant, he could tell that from the string alone, as it must have been something very flexible yet strong rope. Something that wasn't just on strings or animals.

And now she had said that she and another kid had taken down one such a mutant together, then add into it she had also handcrafted this masterpiece by herself.

Lei Jun then looked back at her ¨How could two kids not in Body Activation realm kill a mutant in that realm, this is even harder to believe when you are just a first grade Body Warming realm¨

He talked with a sceptic tone, yet for the next sentence, it changed to a threatening one.

¨I will not be too harsh if you tell me the truth now, but if you try to hide it any longer¨

Du Lan hadn't expected anything like this happening, and she could feel how Lei Jun had started softly pressuring her, and even if it wasn't like Cao Cao's pressure was still this enough to immobilise her.

However, Lei Tao wouldn't let her panic as he had already heard the story, so he went and defended his investment ¨Father it is true! Xiao Fan is Body Realm third grade, and he had only lured the snake into a trap by duelling it for a moment¨

¨Additionally, the beast had already been wounded grievously before...¨ He began to speak to his father while walking fast as he could closer to him still narrating the story about to hit Hefei City.

Lei Jun hearing his son speak for an outsider decided to hear him out, and as his story went on, he became more understanding what had happened.

It seemed that he might have made a hasty decision to question her story. But after hearing the full story that was told by Lei Tao putting last of his faith that his father had on him on the line Lei Jun came to see the truth.

Hearing how they had done it, did he think that is was possible.

A sharp blade could still cut a low realm cultivator, so if they had managed to push hundreds of blades into it could a snake which they had encountered be slain.

¨Okay I will believe you. Lei Tao, you can go back to your place now¨ Lei Jun would, for now, believe that such a thing had happened.

His temper also went back to the old man sitting on a chair, talking to a promising youth ¨Then let me ask you another question. Can you make more of those bows?¨ He asked Du Lan, who had calmed down after Lei Jun's pressure had lifted.

¨I have a backup bow of course, but that's not for sale. However, if you fetch more of the snake's rib bones, I can make them for Patriarch Jun either for decoration or for practical use¨ She had somewhat gotten back to her usual self from all that pressure.

But not so much that she would try her luck and try to get a payment for her work.

However, Lei Jun could see that she would like some money¨I will not take your bows, even I can't do so, or no archer will be coming to Hefei anymore¨

¨The second option of fetching some can be done as the place is only a two-day roundtrip, so in two days you can expect that the material will be delivered¨

He then reached to his pocket and took a note from there ¨Here with this you can find something nice for yourself¨ He handed out the note to her.

Du Lan seeing something worth money didn't, of course, deny and took the note then bowed towards Lei Jun, said some small words like everyone else before her and got back behind Lei Tao, who was waiting in line with the other brothers watching their father doing business in the middle of a party.

Now everyone else was done it was time for Xiao Fan, who was the last person who hadn't said anything, yet everyone already knew enough about him.

This in mind Lei Jun didn't ask it and skipped straight into the questioning ¨So you have already fought with a Body Activation realm mutant how did that go?¨

Xiao Fan gotten out of the line spoke to Lei Jun ¨Well, as one could expect. When the beast got a hit on me I flew like a kite. Thankfully the beast couldn't use all of its mobility or it wouldn't have taken long to kill me¨

Lei Jun hearing him speaking how he had flown like a kite remembered how in his old days when he also wanted to fight against cultivators who were a few grades or a realm higher than him.

Doing so, he would also be flying like a kite from one hit so he shouldn't be wrong.

On the side, this also raised his confidence in Xiao Fan's skills, seeing as there was one huge difference between them doing it. He did so but would have safety nets all around him while Xiao Fan was in the wilds against a mutant.

It was much more impressive.

Lei Jun was also happy how Lei Tao had encountered such people like these two. He had feared yet expected the third son to bring in nothing like usual.

Coming out from his quick ponder, he looked at Xiao Fan not asking more, let him say his words of bringing pride to Lei Family, and then send him back into the line after where he admired the champions of Lei Family for a moment before rising from his chair to speak.

¨It looks like my family has brought forth a quite a good lineup for this tournament. However, there is still time, and so progress can be made before the time is up¨ He spoke to the audience.

Then Lei Jun turned to speak to the champions ¨With these words. I encourage all five of you to make much progress in this time as possible. The house will provide you with anything you need in hopes of rising you another grade¨

And next up on the physical side of his speech, he made a long sweep through everyone in the hall whilst speaking.

¨Now that the champions are all inspected, we can start what we all been waiting for here¨

Lei Jun then waited for the applause that was coming to him from everyone in the audience.

When the applauses were still coming, he took his leave from the chair he was on, then walking the stairs down towards the windows.

The clapping ended when he stopped at the windows, to talk for the last time in his speech.

¨There will be three fights today on the arena, so we have ample time to watch them and enjoy our time as the Lei Family...¨ There were some other things Lei Jun talked about. But after he was done the games that everyone had come here for could start as Du Lan and Lei Lin stepped into the arena.

Lei Lin, who seemed like a shy girl, got into the ring to face Du Lan, who was one grade lower than her and should take this as a victory, yet Lei Lin didn't become arrogant or anything, she stayed more or less the same shy girl that she was.

That didn't, of course, mean that she knew not to fight as she ran up to Du Lan immediately after the fight had begun by someone banging a bell.

Meanwhile, Du Lan, who couldn't use the Serpent's Bone Bow for that thing was meant to kill, was instead of it using a normal bow that was agreed if hit would Lei Lin lose the match.

They all wanted to see a fight but not a life-ending fight just before a tournament, so they had chosen this route, she herself also knew that this was the way it would go.

Still, even with a regular bow, she could hit her enemies if given a good chance, and her enemy was aware of this and so was closing the starting gap between them fast as she could.

Before Du Lan needed to drop her allocated bow, she got to release two arrows aimed towards Lei Lin that were almost shot continuously one behind another.

But those arrows went into two different directions to limit Lei Lin's movement before running while Du Lan herself run behind those arrows.

There was too slim of a chance to hit a suspecting enemy in a place like this, so Du Lan went for the melee even if she knew dong it should end in her defeat.

The two arrows did their duty, for Lei Lin could only move forward between the two arrows in a straight line towards her.

Then as they met on Du Lan's side of the field, their two small hands came into contact, but in a way for everyone with eyes to see that this was not a catfight.

Women cultivators would always be strong as the men so their fight was the same as it would be if fought by two men.

During their first meeting, everything was equal as Du Lan may be one grade lower; however, her right upper side muscles were almost like a person who was in the second or third grade of Body Warming realm.

This speciality was one of the very few things that an archer cultivator held in melee.

Yet that wouldn't be enough as following that first meeting. Lei Lin just needed to run around Du Lan in a way that her right hand couldn't get many hits.

Their fight came to an end when Lei Lin's leg work simply outmanoeuvred Du Lan's.

Very literally, as Lei Lin swept Du Lan's legs under her what ended in Du Lan stopping in a form that the judge could end the fight by banging a bell and proclaim Lei Lin as the victor.

Neither of them had expected nothing else to happen in their fight, so Lei Lin still after it had ended, helped Du Lan to get up from the ground meanwhile she was proclaimed the winner of the first match.

For Lei Lin, there was nothing she would want from thrashing or bad-mouthing her opponent, so she went with a more friendly approach with Du Lan.

The first fight had now ended.

Between the fights, there was enough time that the Lei Family people could spend some time talking about the fight, get more refreshments and such, so Xiao Fan was waiting in the stands for her.

¨Well is the bow still your preferred way of fighting?¨ He asked while giving her a bottle that he didn't know what was in, but they had tasted so good that he had multiple of the same type on him.

She took the bottle while speaking ¨Ah. You should know how much more fun it is to fight against people in a way that they never get to retaliate¨

¨Melee fighting sucks so much since you need to get all dirty and everything during it. Just look at my dress!¨ She showed her dress that had dust still on it from the falling over on stage.

¨If you don't want to be pushed down into the dirt you might not be made for the life of a cultivator, or you will need to have an exceptional front line so that you can keep shooting your arrows while hiding behind others¨

¨Sure I have already you doing that but what in cases like these where I'm one on one on a stage like this time?¨ She jokingly asked.

¨I don't know I always like a good melee so¨ He shrugged his shoulders not knowing an answer to her question.
