'What was that?' Xiao Fan could easily see that Fei Sun made a hard gulp, indicating that before this, she hadn't used whatever she had put into her mouth... Yet again, being in his spot, he couldn't back down because he felt something was off like a scared cat would do. So still charging towards her, he trusted the facts that it couldn't be something which crushes him into bits and that she wouldn't want to do that in the first place. She was still the Fei Sun he knew even if she had been with these natives for some time.
'Just strike her down' He concluded, then prepared to swing his sword to smack the spear away, so that he could push her to the ground where he would again have the advantage.
Yet as he was about to do so, Fei Sun opened her mouth, and soon something came out from that open mouth.
Fire!
It was a fire that was coming out of her mouth! And it was coming at him as if her throat was a chimney aimed straight towards him, for the flame didn't disperse at all, but continued straight forward.
A burst of weak yet excited laughter could be heard from the middle of the Chiefs ¨She did it!¨ The old Hag keeping this band together voiced her happiness when seeing that her apprentice did a simple spell. It might be a simple spell; however, pulling it off during combat after learning it a few days earlier was amazing when considering the speed of progress. The Hag couldn't be prouder as she watched the flame leave Fei Sun's mouth and cover Xiao Fan's body.
¨It burns! It burns!¨ Xiao Fan screamed. There was no way that he would have suspected this, let alone dodge, and so he was now engulfed by these flames. The heat in this flame wasn't strong when factoring in the resistance one had against fire from cultivation, yet taking into account that Fei Sun was still completely free, it was really bad.
Fei Sun for a moment continued to blow some more fire onto Xiao Fan before stopping to deliver the final blow with her spear. Thankfully, at this point, knocking out Xiao Fan with the broad side of her weapon was feasible.
She heard the screams of Xiao Fan coming from the middle of the fire as she swung his spear towards the flame pillar she had manifested with the teachings she had gotten. However, as her spear was about to cut into the flame, a hand coming out from the fire blocked it? Wait... blocked it? She didn't really register this.
At least not before the hand had a firm grip on the spear, and soon it was joined by the second hand, which then worked with the earlier hand to jerk the spear off from the hands of Fei Sun and throw it away.
¨It BUUUURNS!¨ Xiao Fan roared, as he still mostly engulfed in flames stepped out of the spot he had been burning on. Coming out, he wasn't the best mentally nor physically, but by now, he had somehow gotten his sword back.
¨Arrgh!¨ He yelled again as his free hand tried to pat out the fires on his robe while his sword and eyes took a look at her, his own goddam wife, who had set him aflame with some witchcraft.
On the other side of that gaze, Fei Sun wasn't feeling too well. She had already taken a huge risk when doing this, furthermore the duel they had seemed decided, him being the victor. As even if Xiao Fan was in flames from some parts of his body, he had a sword, and one swing was well enough to end her. Plus there was a small detail of who knows what will a person in his state do? Will there be any mercy?
She knew that if the roles were reversed, she might as well kill the opponent, no matter who it was.
¨It hurts so much! Why did you do this!¨ He seemed to be akin to what she thought he would be, as when he finally started to target her there was no performing of any decisive movements just waving the sword with no bigger plan other than trying to hit the direction she was in.
Reasoning might not be a function Xiao Fan was capable of doing at the moment.
Nevertheless, him doing this was enough to Fei Sun to lock all of her movements. It was too much for her to see him burn alive while screaming like a dying pig and attack her blindly like a mother trying to defend her children.
The Hag also saw this, and she wanting to save Fei Sun, of course, intertwined in this before her student would be cut down by that yellow sword trying to hit her already. To do this, she took a couple of steps forward so everyone could see her and then began to sing a song, directing her voice towards Xiao Fan.
¨Get him out of there!¨ Wang Geming seeing this screamed yet no one moved while the Eleventh Prince being more on the lookout for the bigger picture informed everyone ¨They have a Voice Cultivator! Change formation!¨ He began to repeat.
'A Voice Cultivator in a situation like this... Can't anything go our way' The Eleventh Prince was annoyed by the fact that they had no one to counter this old gramma singing a song towards Mask; furthermore this an intrusion into a duel between two people!
Despite his thinking, as he the Eleventh Prince repeated this shout, everyone in their lines began to move away from each other and take other preemptive steps to ensure that any damage they would take from songs was minimised. There wasn't a lot to do if they didn't have one of their own, but loosening the formations surely helped.
Still, that wouldn't help Xiao Fan, who at first felt that he couldn't move, yet soon after that changed to the realisation that he was being dragged underground by this song. It was as if someone or something was pulling him towards the ground, he could still do everything else, but having experienced being underground enough times he knew that this was very much so a lethal situation.
Though the flames on his body were exhausted when they went underground.
¨Help¨ He voiced in a low tone, so no one else could hear him ask for help from Fei Sun, who was still shocked in place from everything.
¨Help¨ He repeated with his tone become more urgent.
¨Help¨ He raised his voice, his tone desperate, which was to be expected, seeing as the only part of his body that was showing anymore was the head.
To his help, however, him raising his voice was enough to get the attention of the woman. For when done so, she came back to the real world with a small puff of fire coming out from her mouth, then Fei Sun noted how Xiao Fan was being pulled to the ground, and from there knowing what was going on she without saying a word looked towards her master.
¨Stop!¨ She panic yelled at her master, trying to kill him by singing him underground.
The Hag singing took note of this and stopped, though after she did so, she spoke ¨We can start the attack, right? Today is a good day to die, can't you see this?¨
¨Right¨ The Chief with the wolf headdress agreed and signalled a man next to him to strike a drum he was holding onto.
¨Attack, ATTAAACK!¨ Next, the man with all the heavy armour yelled as the drum went off. Following his shout, he began to run towards the formation their opposition had formed, his own retinue straight behind him in the centre pf the charge while on their sides the less equipped men ran alongside them.
'This should be enough' The Hag still leaning onto his stick thought. With this, the apprentice of hers should have all the time she needed for whatever she needed it.
Yes, she started the battle to keep everyone away from the fact that something weird was occurring between two of the duelist.
While she stayed there watching, ready to sing if needed, the Bald Eagle Dynasty leaders could now see that behind the first few lines they had seen outside the forest there were line after line of more men.
Thousands of men and women were now all coming at them.
It was a sight for sure, even the Princes having taken part in live drills and the few having seen the northern Hordes trying to breach into the lowlands were overwhelmed at first. At first, for they weren't and couldn't be incapable too much, and so soon they found the correct actions needed to take.
When so, they left for their own parts of the front line with their Guard Captains and began to yell orders for the soldiers to get into a tight formation while also bracing for impact.
A good idea, but it was also something the old Hag now raised on some throne had waited for them to do since she seeing them pack into a tight formation that could push their tide back did she began to sign something which she wasn't all capable of controlling. She wasn't too strong in terms of cultivation so there was a major miscast change when she would use spells left behind.
Nonetheless, she began to sing, and a few moments later, a wall of spikes came from the ground straight below the front line... of both sides... Well, she hit both sides hard. Moreover, all the men on her side died in battle so they wouldn't complain while their surviving allies got to run into the now broken line filled with spikes.
If not factoring the casualties, she had succeeded in her job, for there was a gap it the enemy line.
But the gap was only for a moment before a few Guard Captains with a Prince came to the breach and took over. And them being of higher cultivation could they fight much better in the middle of some five-meter tall spikes of bedrock sticking out from the ground.
Not to be outdone or wanting to lose the opportunity, the Holy Coalition leaders that had stayed back during the initial clash of sides now pushed themselves into that gap, wanting to overpower the people who seemed to be the opposition elites.
The battle was soon forming out to be a stalemate on the sides while the middle where the Hag had made the song became the volatile area where the Chiefs met the Royals and most of the Guard Captains accompanying them.
In there amidst those bedrock pillars, the Chiefs and Royals met one on one, neither side gaining the advantage as it came obvious to everyone that they were evenly matched yet the Guard Captains were tipping the scale while Wang Geming made moves.
Wang Geming being the rubber bunny he was could run and would run around making a small difference. And at the end of the day, he would be the only person to strike down an enemy leader.
His tactic of using brute and having infinite stamina meant that while everyone else took a break, he kept on fighting. It had been through this pressuring that he had exhausted the Chief, who was hidden below all that heavy armour he was so prideful of.
The heavy armour and equipment the Chief and his tribe prided themselves in had become a huge disadvantage in this section of the battlefield as it made him slow. And by abusing that Wang Geming had gotten a strike at his side since the Chief couldn't see much due to having one slid from which he could see to the outside from his helmet.
The strike might have only done a grievous injury to the Chief, not a lethal one, yet one injury would be followed by another, and when one was injured, it was hard to retreat even if one had the chance.
In this case, the Chief had gotten out of the region filled with spikes, but he had been hunted down by Wang Geming, who after killing him had taken the head and the helmet as a trophy back, confirming his kill.
But before those things would happen.
¨Nice to see you here¨ As the battle was starting Xiao Fan and Fei Sun now left to their own devices began to talk.
