15 Lunch

"So what are you planning to do now?"

The 'kid' accompanied me from behind as I made my way out of the Mess Hall. Why was he still following me around?

"Um, I'm going back."

"Go back where?"

"To the gardens."

"What are you going to do there?"

"Just... lazy around?"

I know it doesn't sound that great, but my current life was rather tamed, much more than I expected.

Weeks prior to returning to the family, I had a lot of weird dreams while making my way to the main residence.

If I had to be honest, and I've never told anyone this before, these weird dreams were related to the family.

Fragments of past memories replayed in my head, not of related sequences but of people.

Some faces were blurred, some I could recognize, and others I came to find out only later when I arrived.

It was through this recollection that I was forced to accept the truth, no matter how much I hated it to be true.

However, even the truth couldn't have kept me bound to this place. It was for the sake of maintaining a lie that I begrudgingly accepted the bargain proposed by none other than the Head of the Family.

Other than a few days ago, I made it a point to stay far away from him and the rest of the family. To make myself unheard and unseen, hence my rather uneventful days ahead.

"You know, if you've got nothing to do, can you help me with something?"

"What is it?"

I was just asking. Not that I was interested in his offer. There was no harm in asking or listening.

"There's going to be a tea party tomorrow in the gardens, and I was planning on helping them after breakfast with the decorations. If you're bored, maybe you can help out?"

"A tea party?"

Surely, this must be the doing of the younger sister. She has the habit of throwing weekly tea parties, although the specific date and time are quite random and spontaneous.

She would invite her friends as well as people within her social circle to the tea parties, eating and gossiping away.

During these periods, I stayed far away from the area, drawing my curtains together as my window overlooked the gardens.

I wasn't really keen on those types of activities. The tea parties often reminded me of the high-pitched laughter I could hear even from my room.

I swear, if I ever found out who, I would strangle her until her last high note croaked like a frog. 😒

"Are you interested? If you help, you can sample some of the desserts for tomorrow's tea party."

But on the other hand, if there's free food, I might probably help. Lunchtime was in another two hours. Nothing wrong could happen, right? 😏

"Alright, I'll help. But only for the food," I said, trying to sound nonchalant.

Felix grinned, his green eyes lighting up. "Great! I'll meet you in the gardens after breakfast then."

As we walked back towards the gardens, I couldn't help but feel a little curious about this tea party. It was a change from my usual routine, and maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't be so bad. Plus, the promise of free food was always a good motivator.

When we reached the gardens, Felix turned to me. "Thanks for agreeing to help. It'll be fun, I promise."

"Yeah, sure," I replied, hiding my slight excitement. "See you tomorrow."

As I watched him walk away, I wondered what kind of desserts they'd have. Maybe this tea party wouldn't be so bad after all. Plus, it gave me something to do other than just lazing around.

With a small smile on my face, I headed back to my favorite spot in the garden, looking forward to the next day.
