Succesor [51]

"don't you think it got a little quiet?" Kai asked

They sat down on the soft grass like they were in a picnic, all they saw was a hundred plumes rising to the skies and the small fires that were spread around the school like fireflies surrounded by the night. The sun went down inch by inch towards the ground as the plumes were building up faster than the sun could send light to Earth.

"this is...." she mumbled

The ashes finally arrived at the ground, it almost looked like it was finally winter but with ashes. The fires fiannly burned themselves out but the plumes were still going up to the now blackened skies. The school was far away but the smell of the smoke got far enough to tickle their noses, who knows what got used as fuels for the fire, they were probably breathing burnt corpses of demons or people.

"Sarya, we should go...This place is gone now and the smell is getting on my nerves" Sieg said while covering his nose.

"yeah.. There's nothing to do here but watch" she answered

They didn't have a place in mind but they sure wanted to get out of there. They got into some nearby forest using the dense foliage to filter out some of the dirty smoke, Sarya sat on some broken down tree and took a short breather.

"So, Egam.. Don't you have any relatives to go too?" she asked

"sadly no" she answered

"..."

"..."

They quietly stared at each other with both of them not knowing what to do to continue the conversation until Sarya decided to request something unwilling, like her mind just slipped something out. Sarya's brain really wanted to do something, and it seems like she can't really control herself.

"so umm.. we need a mage" she asked

"head hunting? Right now?" Egam asked

"yeah, it's not like you don't have anywhere else to go right? And besides, it's not like your career is controlled by a school or something"

Egam thought about what Sarya just said for a while, it is still possible to grow. She thought of her father once more, she remembered something about him dropping out of school and yet he was still a brilliant mage. Maybe I could be like my father she thought. For some reason she agreed to herself, a sudden boost of confidence came out of nowwhere.

"y-yeah, your right actually..."

"is that a yes?" Sarya asked

Egam nodded, still unsure but she still agreed to her. Sarya jumped at Egam and suddenly hugged her tight for whatever reason, it was an awkward hug for Egam but she didn't mind.

Meanwhile, the grandmage rode his staff towards the school. He was like a high speed rocket, cruising through the clouds like an airliner. He looked impatient as if he was running out of time but soon in the distance he saw the burnt down school. Like the whistling sound of a bomb falling to the ground he crashed through the front door of the central castle, he was unharmed though even if the explosion from the crash almost destroyed the barely standing castle.

In his front was the corrupted principal shaking vigorously while quickly turning his head into random directions like a madman.

"oh look who's here! From what I remember you damned cunt decided to backstab my friend and his wife!" he said to the mindless demon

However, the demonized principal didn't listen and just blindly casted some spells that weren't even properly aimed. Even if you have a death ray, it's useless if you know that there's a high chance that it won't hit the target. It wasn't even a challenge for the grandmage since the fight ended with the demon getting its limb chopped off by an invisible force. He looked out into the wall with anger, but he gradually cooled off as if he just did something his body yearned for in years.

"ugh... There you have it old friend, it's not much of a reward for me if the target is a mindless demon but... It is what it is"
