Chapter 36

I was getting dressed in my pajama bottoms when I heard sobbing sounds.

I hurried up and checked on Mary Dale.

She is crying in her sleep.

I scooped her up to soothe her.

"I'm not a whore Edward! I'm not a whore!" she kept repeating those words in between her cries.

I never thought of her like that!

So where did those words come from?

I shushed her and rocked her back and forth like a baby.

Her body is wracked with sobs.

"I love you." I kept whispering to her in the hopes that she'll snap out of her nightmare.

I smoothed the hair away from her face and kept stroking her hair.

"Where the hell did she get that idea?" he thought to himself.

"It's alright Mary Dale. I'm here now and I promise that I will always be!"

She seems to hear his words.

He checked if she's already awake but she's not.

Her cries subsided but her brows are still furrowed.

He outlined her brows with his finger.

He gently kissed her forehead.

"I have a lot to atone for Mary Dale and I know that. I just hope that you give me the chance to prove that I am very sorry for all the pain that I caused you." he says to her.

"And I'm sorry if I had to coerce you into marriage. But it was the only way that I know to get you back!"

A phone suddenly started ringing.

It's not his ringtone so it must be hers.

He had her things brought up here ahead of them with her father's consent.

He looked around to find her bag.

He regrets letting her go but the phone kept ringing so he got up to answer it.

"Hello?"

The caller didn't answer immediately.

So he asked again, "Hello?".

"Who the hell are you and why are you answering Dale's phone?" asks the man on the other side incredulously.

Edward's hackles raised at the tone of the man's voice.

Heck!

His hackles rose at the sound of a man's voice calling his wife!

He tried to sound unaffected.

"I'm her husband. And you are?"

"Husband? That's not funny! Where is Dale? I want to talk to her!"

He glanced over at his wife's sleeping form.

He walked a few steps so their conversation won't wake her up.

"Mary Dale, my wife, is sleeping in our bed. So bye!" then he immediately hung up the phone.

"Who the f*ck was that calling her at this hour?"

He can't read the name of the caller because it's written in Japanese.

He gripped her cellphone a little tighter.

Furious at the man who called.

But if he is being honest, he is more furious at himself for ever letting her go.
