Good bye, My Dear Brother

The tea burned his tongue, but it didn't stop him from drinking it. Lu Xingyan kept torturing himself ever since Yan Shu left the country.

He sipped on the tea while his focus was on the photo frame. "Shu'er," he sadly muttered to himself, "don't you miss your brother? Have you forgotten about me, my little princess? If I hadn't been so useless then you would still be with me.

"This is all mother's fault." His sadness was replaced by anger. "If not for her avarice, we wouldn't have suffered so much, and you wouldn't have run away. You would still be with me. I swear to make her pay for her sins!"

He threw the teacup on the floor, smashing it to bits. The teapot followed next, then the tray and anything else he could grab. Only when he smashed the photo frame did he regret his actions.

That was the only photo of him and his sister together. On it, Yan Shu wore a cute pink frock with her hair tied in two pigtails. She sat on a bench eating her ice cream while he watched her with care.

He bent down to pick up the frame when something caught his attention. Hidden behind the photo was a folded piece of paper.

He brushed the glass shards away, cutting his hand on the process. The oozing blood didn't bother him.

He unfolded the paper and read its contents.

"Goodbye, my dear brother.

Thanks for everything.

Sorry for everything.

I love you.

Your twerp."

It only contained these five lines, but it left him touched nonetheless. He couldn't help smiling.

"Twerp, you left me a note at least." He quickly wiped the tears that threatened to overflow. He needed to control his emotions.

He called Ye Mixi into the room, who was shocked to see the room upside down.

"What happened here? And is that… oh my god, you're bleeding."

"It's just a small cut. Forget about it and clean everything here."

"I'm sorry young master, but this is more important. We have to bandage you before you bleed out."Lu Xingyan sighed.

He wasn't going to die from a finger cut, but getting her to forget about the wound would be more trouble than it was worth.

"Fine, but be quick about it."Ye Mixi gave a quick bow before leaving the room to call a doctor and grab the first-aid kit.

Meanwhile, he neatly folded the paper and stored it safely, as if it were a precious treasure.

Ye Mixi soon returned, in her hand a red bag with a white cross on the side. "Young master, please come to the hall. I asked the other servants to come here and clean everything."

In the hall, she made him sit on the couch. First, she checked for any pieces of glass in the wound. Not finding any, she proceeded to wash the wound with water and then wiped it with an alcohol-soaked cloth. Finally, she applied a thin layer of petroleum jelly to avoid scarring and dressed the wound with a bandage. When it was done, she stored the tools back on the kit, and the kit back on the kitchen cupboard.

She returned with a glass of water for him to drink. When the doctor arrived, he checked the wound. Ye Mixi had properly done the first-aid procedure, so all he had to do was prescribe Lu Xingyan an antibiotic to prevent an infection.

She once again left, this time to prepare the dining table while Aunt Meng cooked. When it was all done, she called Lu Xingyan to eat."I'm not hungry."

"Young master, you have to eat, especially after losing blood."He sighed again.

"Fine, but you're feeding me then."Ye Mixi was startled.
