You are entering the Lion's Den

Six months later, Yan Shu and her group finally graduated from college. They all enjoyed graduation day by taking selfies and talking to their classmates all day long. By the time she arrived home, she felt exhausted but satisfied.

Now that she graduated, she could start focusing on her company. Two weeks prior, she heard the news about the company Techlife going bankrupt. Noticing an opportunity, Yan Shu quickly moved and managed to acquire it at a relatively low cost.

And as the first order of business, she invited her friends to work with her as department heads.

A week after graduating, she began the process of cutting costs such as workers with low productivity. One of the people she made sure to keep was the chairman, as she needed someone who knew the company well enough to act in her absence.

Besides that, she also became much closer to Chen Mu Sheng, their relationship evolving from boss and employee to two friends. Just last evening the two had dinner to celebrate her new company, after which he even made sure to escort her home. He was much kinder than his reputation would suggest.

A month after Yan Shu acquired the company, the government issued a public bid for a security system. Any company willing to participate would have until next week to submit their project.

That would be the perfect opportunity to use the software she created a year ago, so she notified her friends about her plan. At first, they wondered why she already had a software ready, but they all forgot about it after looking at her software. It was simply too advanced, much more than current security systems.

"There's still one last feature that I want to add tonight, then I'll show it to you guys again," she told them. "In the meantime, I want you all to prepare the presentation. And most important of all, tell no one about it. This must remain confidential for now." Receiving a collective nod in confirmation, Yan Shu gave one last warning. "And remember to rest well tonight. It'll be the last full night of sleep you'll have until we're done with this project."

Everyone gave a wry smile. They knew how their boss really was. It had barely been a month since they started working for her, and she already left a deep impression on them.

She always had a seemingly gentle and harmless smile, but those who actually worked with her knew better.

After all the employees left, a middle-aged man walked in. Cheng Dongge was his name. "You did well my child," he said before patting her head. "Shu'er, I hope for you to win this bidding." That seemed to be all he came to do, as he left the room after that.

When she took over the company, Cheng Dongge worked very hard so that the staff wouldn't leave. Yan Shu always wondered why he helped her so much, but he never quite explained his reasons. "You remind me of my daughter," was as far as his explaining went. She felt thankful, but never quite trusted him. Other than that, he also gave her a piece of advice: "Take care, you're entering the lion's den."
