Angel ~ 9

CHAPTER 9

Amelia jumped at the sight of the café door swinging open and closing again. "oop.. Sorry didn't mean to scare ya" I said before remembering she couldnt see or hear me. Being at the arcades and playing on the machines made me feel kinda normal again. But I guess not.

Amelia put her phone down on the empty table I was sitting at in the corner of the café while she tended to a customer. Next to me was the public bathrooms and I watched as someone stepped out and immediately snuck towards me.

The man was rough and his clothes were disgusting, I wouldn't say he was homeless but more say he was just a slob. On his face was a patch covering all his chin space of grey stubble.

And his brown hair was ruffled and knotted as if it hadn't been combed in years. He immediately snuck towards me and the phone.

Casually, as if the man was looking souly at the photos above me, he swayed strongly towards the phone and sneakily he slid it up his sleeve, unaware that I saw every second of it.

I followed him back to his table. "alright, I'm ready to leave now honey" he said to his wife as Amelia waked away.  "did ya get 'er phone den?" the woman said quietly. "yeah! Duhh I weren't gonna leave wiv' owt it!" he replied with confidence and proudness.

Something in me sparked, it was as if I was supposed to protect her and watch out for her, I needed to get her phone back.

The middle aged couple went to make their way out of the café but just as they were rushing to the door I put my foot right in front of the man's brown leather shoe, tripping him up.

He hit his head on the door handle as he fell and his nose started to bleed.

Amelia rushed over. "oh my gosh! Are you alright!" She flapped innocently. She helped him roll over so he was sitting upright on the floor, as she did so her phone slipped out of his jagged coat pocket.

"I'm so sorry! How did you fall? Are you ok-" Amelia trails off. "is.. Is that my phone!?" she screeched in disgust.

She snatched her phone off of the ground, leaving the man to stumble up by himself.

"Did you take this?!" she pointed at the phone in her hands. "That's it I'm calling the police" and at that the man and his wife sped out of the door as quick as they could.

"I have you on video!" Amelia yelled up the road. "on cctv!" she continued.

Slowly, Amelia went back in and sat down in the booth that I had slept on previously. Her eyes closed. Still shaken she mumbled under her breath.

"Thank you God" she breathed. "for the angel you sent to watch over me is doing their job fine and well" Her eyes re-opened.

While I knew she was safe I got up and wandered outside for a breathe of fresh air. It was a beautiful evening and the sky was a pretty pink colour. The air was cold and crisp, I could see the heat of my breath fade away from my face is the form of smoke.

Night fall was approaching fast and the bone chilling reality of how cold it was, was getting worse. I needed to get Amelia home before she got a chill.

I turned and walked back inside the café but I couldn't see her anyhwere. Cautiously I searched around the café only to find Amelia fast asleep in the comfy booth seats. I smiled to myself.

Carefully, without making too much noise, I slid her keys out of her pocket and locked up the shop so that she is safe to sleep there for the night.

I laid down next to her in the booth and watched over her for the night.
