Death? ~ 16

CHAPTER 16

Amelia pulled up into a parking lot. "umm... Hello? Are you... Awake?" she whispered as she put her phone on the arm rest in the middle of the two front seats.

I groaned as I awoke.

I grabbed at the phone, the bright screen made me squint. 'I am awake now, are we there?' I thumped down the phone and sat upright.

"yeah we are at the hospital but I need to find a parking space, I just thought i should see if you were awake, ya know cuz I can't actually see you." She said as she span the wheel all the way around to reverse out of the layby and into the massive, fully packed hospital car park.

We drove around in circles on the bottom level of the car park for 5 minutes before deciding to go up the ramp to level 2.

I felt a slight tingle of dejavu in my brain as we circled and circled up and up all the way to the top floor where we finally found a space.

I snatched out her phone. 'we need to hurry! I feel... Like I'm changing... I'm losing time!'

My stomach gurgled and I suddenly lost all of my appetite. My head flipped like switch, my soul purpose was to guide and protect people. I was becoming a spirit!

"ok ok ok, let go!" Amelia stuttered quickly as she fumbled with her belt buckle.

We both swerved and swung open the doors at the same time.

The sound of both the doors crashing shut vibrated through my brain.

We ran to the elevators, the quickest route down." quickly get in" Amelia said rushingly as she pushed the buttons on the wall.

She held out her phone to make sure I had gotten into the lift with her. I tapped the screen and it flashed up. "OK good your here" she huffed in relief.

"I can't keep checking that you are with me so, I'm trusting you to keep up OK?" she said worriedly. She held out her phone again and I typed 'I promise'. She smiled.

All we needed now, was to get in... That shouldnt be too difficult right? Well, that's what I thought before Amelia came out with a statement that made me realise we might be in over our heads.

"They might only let family in...so... That might become a problem later." she chewed on her lip and scrunched up her face. "we'll just worry about that when we get to it" she put on a brave face but it was obvious she was scared and really didn't know what she was getting herself into.

The elevator dinged as it reached the bottom floor. The doors opened and so did the flood gates that were keeping my excitement hidden away.

We ran out and around to the front of the hospital. "excuse me miss, do you know which ward this man is in?" Amelia asked the lady behind the desk.

"ah yes, I can tell you his ward number but the visiting is strictly family only." the lady replied. Oh god.. Here we go. I thought.

"yes I am a family member of his. I am so extremely worried about him." she said, pulling a stressed, sad face.

"here you go, this is the number."

The lady and Amelia shared an obviously fake smile. They both equally wanted to get away from each other.

"I cannot believe I just lied through my teeth" she said shamefully under her breath as we walked away to the elevators.

"I could get into so much trouble with this, you best be worth it." she chuckled, she knew I was listening.

We reached the lifts and pressed in the number 4. There were two other people in the lift with us so we didn't talk.

I started to feel dizzy and faint... I was losing time... I pushed through it.

The lift had reached our floor, after what felt like an eternity we got out and speed walked through the hallways.

The smooth, marble floor clicked with Amelias shoes. The echo bounced around through my head. Everything was a little bit blurry and I suddenly became acutely sensitive to light.

We turned and pushed two heavy doors open. All we needed to do was find my bed. I was ready to try again, start a new.

We turned into a room and I saw myself. Laying there, connected to a thousand wires and machines.

"Excuse me this is strictly family only." A nurse put her hand on Amelias shoulder.

"oh yes, i.. I.." Amelia stuttered as her eyes darted from my almost lifeless body to the nurse. I just stood there, waiting for her to say something.

"I.. I am helping him wake up!" She exclaimed nervously as the nurse tried to pull her out of the room.. "No wait! Please" Amelia pulled herself to stay in the room.

She turned and looked at my body, pale and cold in the bed. "do it." She said under her breath. "um.. What miss?" the nurse stopped pulling and looked at Amelia in the eyes.

"try it, please." She looked as though she was about to burst into tears. Amelia was talking to me.

I laid next to my body... My eyes turned white, all the machines around me bleeped. Everything was loud.

"No!" Amelia yelled as I faded.

"miss!" The nurse seemed scared.

Everything turned a bright white.

"dd.. Did.. I.. I.. Die?" I tried to talk outloud, unsure of whether anyone could hear me.

Everything suddenly ached... I felt.. A burning sensation all over me.

... Did I die?...
