Real Life ~ 17

CHAPTER 17

My entire body ached... I opened my eyes slowly. The light flooded through my eyelids like water through a crevice.

"uhhghgh" I moaned. I pushed myself to sit up. "d.. Did.. Its. Worked?" I mumbled, squinting I tried to look around.

"it worked." Amelia was beside me, holding my hand.

"what... I don't believe it... How did you do that?" the nurse was surrounded by paramedics, they guaped at me as I sat up.

"your not gonna believe us." Amelia smile as she looked from the nurse to my body, me, now lifefull and alive.

I smiled. "I can explain if you wish but I guarantee you won't believe a word I say." I hadn't heard my voice in so long, it was deep.

I explained everything and occasionally Amelia would jump in to explain her own little parts.

The team stood. Flabbergasted as they listened intently to us explaining our story.

I ended on the sentence. "Not many people will help ghosts, I'm lucky I found her." That sentence sent a warm smile across the room.

Everyone was beaming.

The truth was, I hadn't got any family members. I was alone and.. I got lost amongst my thoughts.

"oh god..." The sudden realisation hit me like a slap in the face...

"what? What's wrong? Are you OK!?" Amelia sped over her words.

"um ye..ah I.t... Its nothing I'm fine." I forced a smile.

I spent that night in the hospital, just to be safe, which is what the doctors said. It was dark and I couldn't sleep. Everyone was gone and all you could hear were the bleeping of other people's machines.

I had a lot of thoughts on my mind and they were not going to rest, so I just couldn't sleep.

Where was I going to go when I get discharged? I'm homeless now... My house was in trouble when I was alive before but now, its sure to have been taken. Who would I go to? I have no friends or family... There's no place for me here on this world, nobody cares.

My head whirled around and around with thoughts until I shut off. My brain became overwhelmed and I made myself sleep. It was not a comfortable night, I had nightmare after nightmare. The sudden realisation of real life, it was as if I had cut a thousand onions in front of my eyes, it stung.

The next morning I woke feeling, better and more able to think straight.

Amelia walked in. "Thank you" she said to a nurse as they walked separate ways.

"Morning." She smiled dimly at me.

"How are you feeling?" She questioned.

I rolled my eyes and sighed, we both broke out in a chuckle.

She sat down next to me. I was facing the door watching as the doctors and nurses walked past when I could see her in the corner of my eye, she was staring at me, her head was tilted, almost resting on her shoulder. She was... Staring at me.. Like a giddy schoolgirl...?

Suddenly the doctors walked in holding a clipboard. "you can leave whenever you want today, try not to take too long though, the free bays the better." they smiled.

- ONE HOUR LATER -

We were sitting in the car I stole. Everything happened so fast that day.

The radio played as background noise while Amelia drove the car back to her little house.

When we got there Amelia let me in.

" hehe" She giggled as we walked around to the living room. "huh?" I questioned.

"oh its nothing... Its just funny how the last time we were both here together you were invisible, it's nice to be able to see you finally."

She turned to me grinned.

"Thank you" I breathed amongst my giggles.

"So, you want me to drive you to your house?" She asked innocently, as she turned to the kitchen and boiled the kettle.

"Damien?" she leant around the door and we stared into each others eyes, my expression was that of a worried mans. "you can tell me if there's something keeping you from going home?"

She sat next to me and wrapped her arm over my shoulders. I forced a smile.

"I'm sorry to bring this onto you... But..." I began.
