Work ~ 19

CHAPTER 19

Amelia and I walked side by side for the long, half - an - hour walk to the café.

Amelia decided that I could be of use at the shop considering that one of the newer workers quit and that there's a lot that needs help with.

"What happened to that car I stole?" I thought aloud suddenly. "Ya know, when I was in my coma?" I turned to Amelia with a puzzled look.

"Don't know" She replied.

For some reason I was excited and giddy...

It was just a day filled with work? I asked myself to calm down but something was burning deep down in my heart. A flame was growing and spitting and sparking. I must have just drank too much coffee, I told myself, refusing to listen to my hearts excitement.

Everything seemed strangely normal that day, all the customers were nice, nothing out of the ordinary happened. It felt like this was where I was supposed to be, you know, now that I'm here nothing bad is happening to me because I am where I need to be.

While I was day dreaming Amelia walked in a shook me awake. "you are supposed to be washing up" she said sarcastically with a laugh. "oh right, sos" I replied bluntly, clearly still amongst my dreams.

I turned around again and switched on the faucet.

By the time I had finished washing up and walked out to the front desk, it was already closing time and the whole beach was empty.

Me and Amelia had bags beneath our eyes, what with everything else that had been going on, we hadn't got much sleep the night before.

"I've been thinking" Amelia paused. "all day" she looked up at me wiping down the bar.

"Yeah?" I questioned her with a tilted head.

"would you... Like to live with me?" she struggled to find her words."b..but only like if you want to you know?" she quickly cut in herself.

I glanced down at her slowly retracting hands going up her sleeve, her nails were digging into the palms of her hands and her face was pink. She hardly could make eye contact with me.

"Are..are you sure?" I smiled up at her.

Amelia stared me in the eyes with a glimmer of hope. "well..um yeah... Yeah! If ya know if you would want to..?" she looked down at her feet as she kicked dust around between her feet.

"OK then!" I exclaimed triumphantly as if I had just won a medal. I could feel my cheek bones starting to hurt, I was smiling brightly.

Amelias eyes told me she was shocked. "R... Really!?" She her eyes were sparkling with delight.

"Sure! I mean, we do work well together so why not!?" I said as got up to lock the shop.
