Sleeping Arrangements ~ 20

CHAPTER 20

It was pitch black and the sea seemed frozen, it was cold and we could see our breathe in the air. Everything was quiet, even Amelia and I were enjoying the sound of our shoes crunching on the frost.

The lampposts were scarce and the ones that worked flickered as though they were on their way out. A hint of dejavu flashed over in my brain, the last time I was here with these flickering lights in the dark bad things happened and I didn't care much for remembering it.

"You alright?" Amelia saw that I was deep in scary thoughts. "Yeah.. Yeah I'm good." In my head I blessed Amelia for pulling me out of the depths of my own head. There were darker corners back there, with even darker paths.

We turned left and then right and then we made it to the cosy little house.

We were both extremely tired so we decided not to eat dinner.

Naturally I sent myself to the sofa, assuming that even though I now lived there, it was only polite of me. The blankets were itchy and rough but I told myself that they would do fine, I would work hard and buy myself a better blanket and maybe eventually I could buy myself a sofa bed.

"You know... You can sleep in the bed if you'd like? It's probably a lot more comfortable than the sofa." She poked her head around the corner and smiled tiredly.

"I um... Are you sure?" I'll admit I was surprised, was she.. Trying to get me into her bed!? Although the thought of a warm comfy duvet and mattress lured me, I was determined to fight my urge of sleep.

"yeah come on" she pulled my arm gently into the room. I don't know what I was expecting but as she pushed the bedroom door open, my eyes widened.

I was suddenly transported to a new world, one with wolves as gods and magical blue mists. I turned to my left and saw a desk covered in paint tubes and canvases. She was half way through a painting.

"just um ignore the mess" she giggled nervously. I didn't reply to her, my mouth was agape as I turned on the spot taking in all the details of the paint and decor on the walls.

"I painted it myself" she exclaimed proudly as she climbed into bed.

I turned to her as she was climbing in. It was a... Bunk bed!?

"I always sleep on the top" Amelia laughed.

"I.. Didn't know adults were even allowed to have bunk beds!" I laughed back.

I laid still, the silence was deafeningly loud.

After a few minutes of laying in bed I thought I heard Amelia snore.

"Thank you, beautiful angel that has made me as lucky as I am to have found this woman" I whispered to myself, assuming no one would hear.

"your welcome" Amelia replied out of the darkness.

You could hear the smile in her voice. I giigled quietly and so did she. We both knew that nobody was supposed to hear that. But I think deep down I was glad she heard me.
