4. Forks High School (2)

My morning classes had been refreshing.

I was so used to the messiness that came with living in a big city that the calmness of Forks High School—even when students were chit-chatting was relaxing.

I had no problem talking to most of my comrades in the battlefield we called high school but I only made one worthy friend—Angela Weber, a shy, kind girl who was the owner of lush light brown hair and similarly colored eyes. She was timid but you could really see that her kindness wasn't an act. We made quite a sight actually standing next to each other.

I definitely had a mean girl aura while she was more of the shy girl in the photography club.

Angela walked me to the cafeteria as we intended to eat together and she also wanted to introduce me to her group of friends.

"Hey, Ang. Who's this?" Another light brunette girl smiled up at us.

"Isabella, right?" An Asian boy stood up to shake my hand.

"Rebecca, actually." I shook his hand. "Isabella is my twin sister. We mostly go by Becca and Bella though."

"Hey, Becca. I'm Jessica." The girl waved as I sat down next to her.

The rest of the boys then introduced themselves as Eric, Tyler and Mike.

"Nice to meet you."

I glanced around in time to see Bella with another brunette, she was short, shorter than Bella but her wild curls made up for the height.

"Guys, this is Bella." She said as she sat down. "Bella, this is my friends."

There was another round of awkward introductions before my sister sat down next to me, making the girl who was with her notice me.

"Becca, right?"

"And you must be a miracle-worker." I shook her hand back. "Bella usually doesn't talk to people."

"I'm Lauren." She laughed. "And it's okay. I talk enough for the both of us."

I chuckled as I leaned back, meeting Bella's eyes. "I guess opposites attract."

Bella slightly glared at my smug face—we both knew she couldn't stand chatterboxes but she had no choice in this small school.

I was listening to these six new friends of mine when I realized Bella was staring at something, as if entranced.

It was by following her gaze that I first saw them.

They were sitting in the corner of the cafeteria, as far as we were in the long room, but it felt as though they were seated at the center of the room.

There were five of them, they weren't talking nor eating, even though they each had a tray of untouched food in front of them... how weird was that? They normally wouldn't have caught my eye—well, most things didn't catch my eye—but I could see why my sister was enthralled.

They were an interesting group—they looked nothing alike and yet were very similar. Of the three boys, one was a muscly, big guy with short, dark-blonde, curly hair. Another was just as tall but a bit leaner, with honey blonde hair. The last one was slightly lanky, with untidy bronze-colored hair. They all looked like college students rather than high schoolers, but with Bella and I's looks, who was I to judge.

The girls were opposites. There was the tall, statuesque honey blonde with a beautiful figure. The other girl was short, pixie like with delicate features and short, spiked dark brown hair.

I shared an appreciating glance with Bella—these students were even more attention grabbing than a couple of new students from a big city.

"They're even paler than you, Bels." I chuckled.

She nudged my shoulder with a snort. "You're just as pale as me, smarty."

"Who are they?" Bella asked our group as their table stood up with the intent to leave the cafeteria.

"They are the Cullens." Jessica replied with a giggle.

I lifted a brow, what was there to giggle about? Sure, they had unnaturally beautiful faces but what I liked was how quick they'd been in throwing their platters. I mean, school cafeteria everyone, hell on a plate.

"The big guy? That's Emmett Cullen." Lauren informed us. "The beautiful blonde next to him is Rosalie Hale."

"Behind them, the pixie girl is named Alice Cullen and the blonde guy who looks like he's in pain is Jasper Cullen." Jessica took over the gossip.

"They live together with their adopted parents—Dr Cullen and his wife." Angela chimed in.

"I don't even know if it's legal." Jessica frowned.

"You know they're actually not related?" Angela rolled her eyes.

Lauren agreed with Jessica. "But they live together. It's weird."

"Who's he?" Bella asked, ignoring their banter as she motioned her head towards the bronze-haired one.

As if hearing us, the guy looked at Jessica before his eyes glided to Bella and I, who were sitting pretty close together. His eyebrows furrowed but he quickly looked away, uninterested.

Bella was already beet red, eyes down as she was probably embarrassed for getting caught but I couldn't care less. My eyes remained on the group until they were out of the cafeteria.

Something didn't seem right with them and my detective Conan senses were tingling.

"That's Edward Cullen." Jessica said. "He's totally gorgeous, but apparently nobody here is good enough for him."

The bitter note at the end of her sentence made me bite back a smile. Well, it looked like someone had been rejected one too many times.

Throughout the conversation, Bella's eyes constantly flickered to where the Cullens had last stood.

"Don't waste your time, Bels." I snapped my fingers in front of her face to clear her thoughts.

I knew my twin.

She had... obsessive tendencies and I'd just seen how she was looking at that Edward and his whole family. She always had this ridiculous idea that she didn't fit in with people because she hadn't found her perfect 'group' while I thought she didn't care to try enough. But with these shiny, new family, she was bound to drag herself and me into their mold.

"I don't plan to." She replied with a cough.

"Liar." I rolled my eyes. She was such a lousy liar.

I sighed, shrugging—her life, not mine.

"Come on, guys." Angela joined our side. "We have Biology II in a few."

"Hm. Let's go."

Biology was my favorite subject so I hoped this one class would live up to my expectations.
