Jasper Indigo (part 1)

Waves, the warm water whirling around me has muted the entire world. I'm disappearing into myself for now, forgetting all of my troubles.

I've found that submerging myself in the bath is the only thing that helps me these days…

The water acts like a sort of barrier to the sounds, more specifically, the voices.

I am Jasper Indigo, well, that's my stage name at least. It might sound like a cool guy's name but I'm actually a girl.

Anyways, I have always been fascinated with magic, when I was very young I started practicing simple card tricks.

It's amazing how some slight of hand and a bit of distraction can give someone the illusion of the impossible. I love it when I can make someone truly believe in magic.

Personally though, I felt like an anomaly. The circumstances that make me different from everyone else started when I was born.

I lost my parents when I was a kid and ended up fending for myself on the streets for some time. Learning how to take my slight of hand to the next level, I wound up stealing watches, wallets anything for the money I needed to survive.

I was human just like everyone else in the world, except, I have to hide the fact that I was born with a tail. Black and grey stripes and furry like a cat.

~Meow~

It seems weird to just say it, especially in a normal conversation like 'oh yeah, by the way I have a frickin cat tail'. Like yeah, that's not gonna make me stand out in a bad way or anything right?

Needless to say, my feline attributes were kept totally secret. I didn't reveal it until I met someone like me one day. I'll talk more about that later though.

So It wasn't for some years that I finally was taken in by a friend of the family and his wife. It was at that point that I was able to settle down and live like a normal girl should for once.

I also focused in on my hobby and became well inversed in the art of creating the illusion of magic. It started when I won my local talent show, then one thing led to another and next thing I know I basically became famous.

I was even invited to perform on a huge television program at night where I'd be seen by millions.

I remember being so excited, so full of energy and enthusiasm. But then…Things started to get weird.

I started hearing things that weren't there, seeing faint shadows moving in the night. I thought I was going insane.

And so the big day came, I went on and tried my best despite my nerves. Halfway through the show I heard a voice.

The voice wasn't coming from the audience, it was up on stage with us.

Except on the stage was just myself and Jimmy Falcon the TV host. The voice sounded like an elderly woman and she kept saying

"Jimmy, Jimmy it's G-ma Norn please look in the cupboard, the tin in the cupboard, please open it."

I assumed that he was ignoring that voice, so I decided to relay the message to him.

"Excuse me Jimmy, do you know anyone by the name of 'G-ma Norn'?"

The look of the confusion on his face when he squinted at his script in that moment.

"Yes…that is my recently passed grandmother's name...???"

"I'm hearing a voice from your G-ma Norn asking you to open the tin in the cupboard. If you know what she's talking about."

"Okay, you are officially freaking me out right now, my G-ma Norn gave me a metal tin box before she died. I never opened it because I was so upset over losing her. I was afraid that she was disappointed in me. Therefore, I stored it in the pantry on this very set in fact…"

The crowd seemed to gasp all at the same time and then followed pure silence.

There was a floating camera following Jimmy as he walked towards the other end of the stage in which we were standing on.

A high pitched creaking sound as the mahogany door swung open and Jimmy stepped out with a shining metal box. It was blue, covered in stars. I watched with curious eyes as he opened it.
