Mother Knows Best & Sports Festival

Midoriya goes back to the pub right before the sun sets. He's giddy. Waltzing into the bar, he doesn't even try to wipe the bright smile from his face as he heads to his room, leaving Kurogiri and Shigaraki in utmost confusion in his wake. Kurogiri just shrugs a sort of response.

Mitsuki Bakugou is a smart woman. She raised a smart kid as well. So it didn't take long to figure out why Inko was avoiding her calls, letting the phone ring and go straight to voicemail. It didn't take long for her to figure out why her son was coming home later once a week, and not even looking at her in the face. She was too smart.

She leaves voicemail after voicemail on her friend's phone, not knowing if she at least listens to her concern. Katsuki wasn't home yet, and her husband was just leaving work. She needed to do something. There was an unknown connection between the two, and she needed to figure out what.

Bakugou thought he was sneaky. He thought wrong. He opened the front door quietly and slipped inside, taking off his shoes and proceeding to go up the stairs, when he heard a scoff. He turned his head to their living room, seeing his mom sitting on the couch, staring holes directly into him.

"So, would you like to explain why Inko is avoiding me, you little shit? This has you written all over it, Katsuki," she growled when she said his name. He was not sneaky.

He tried keeping up his "tough guy" persona. "Hah? I don't know, hag! She's just a wreck!" Her mother raised an eyebrow at him, knowing he slipped an important piece of information that he wasn't supposed to. He cussed under his breath as he shakily went down the stairs, but not leaving the railing as a support.

She watched him, she knew that he knew all too well that she had him figuratively cornered. "A wreck? What did you do? I'm not gonna leave you alone until you tell me, fucker!"

He felt the anger radiate off his mother. She was hot-headed, and so was he. The apple definitely did not fall far from the tree. He slumped against the railing in a defeat, much to his mother's pleasure. "I saw Izuku i-in the USJ attack… He's with the villains… He's alive and he was the one who injured my hands," he looks down at his now healed palms, a light pink scar barely visible. "I-I went to talk to Inko. I thought it was the right thing. I didn't think she'd ignore you…"

Mitsuki was definitely surprised. She didn't know much detail about her son's injuries, she just knew a villain did it out of fear of self-defense. She didn't know it was Izuku. She didn't even want to know how Inko was when Katsuki told her. "Oh. Oh, shit. That's why she's avoiding me. Fuck, kid. I had no clue any of this was happening."

Bakugou ran up the stairs and to his room before Mitsuki could see him red-faced or cry. She didn't bother calling his name for dinner that night.

A week passes from Todoroki's and Midoriya's initial encounter, and the half-and-half boy kept his promise of texting him when he got home. They have been texting back and forth for a week. Todoroki didn't mention anything about him going to UA or about the Sports Festival, until the day before. Midoriya was surprised to say the least.

Tomura decides to watch it alone in his room, while Kurogiri plays it in the center room for Midoriya to watch. Kurogiri has heard slivers of information from the green haired boy about his new friend, but when he heard that his friend goes to UA… Well, he couldn't help but chuckle and decided that he'll tell his boss later.

All three villains watch the Sports Festival, watching as the high schoolers face off each other using their quirks to the highest potential. Midoriya was rambling on about Kacchan's explosive quirk and the other students from what he saw from their previous attack, but he watched with awe at Todoroki's quirk.

The relay race was over, Bakugou and Todoroki were hand-in-hand until Bakugou used his explosions to fly though the air while setting off the mines in the dirt. The cavalry battle was interesting to watch, with Bakugou sitting on top of a red-haired boy with unnatural sharp teeth as he hardened himself to plow through other groups. He watched Todoroki with his ice freeze and make ice walls to corner the other teams to gather the most points. Midoriya was taking notes in his new notebook. Kurogiri just watched the younger boy with amusement and curiosity. He reminded himself again to not get on this kid's bad side.

After Bakugou's and Todoroki's teams and two more finished, it was time for the one-on-one battles. Bakugou faces off a girl, who Midoriya quickly learned had a anti-gravity quirk, and he wasn't holding back. Todoroki freezes a boy with tape elbows. Other students face off and Midoriya tunes them out until the final battle: Bakugou versus Todoroki.

Kurogiri pours himself some whiskey, knowing he's going to need it as he watches the boy almost fall off the couch with excitement.

Izuku knows Bakugou's quirk inside and out, but only knows half of Todoroki's. As the battle starts with a shout from Present Mic, Todoroki allows his ice power to skid across the stage, and Bakugou avoids it with a quick push of his own quirk. Midoriya watches intently, dropping his pen inside his notebook and closing it, not removing his eyes from the screen.

Todoroki creates a wall of ice, burying Bakugou deep inside. Its quiet. Too quiet, Midoriya figures. With one of the cameras zooming in, there were cracks in the ice, until shards of ice exploded in all directions, which caused Todoroki to ignite his other half to melt the ice. Bakugou had a fearful look in his eyes, and it seemed like time froze. His body was half on fire and half frozen with ice.

Fire. Ice. That's why he's half and half. Kurogiri watched intently, now with this new development getting him interested. He glanced over at Midoriya, who in turn, stared at the screen. In a matter of seconds, Bakugou spiraled himself in the air, using his hands and his quirk to propel himself and he created a cyclone of smoke, hitting Todoroki head on.

The smoke cleared slowly, adding a feeling of suspense that no one wanted to change. Bakugou got up, slowly, and limped over to his opponent laying on the grass across the battle stage. He looked at the boy, both of them injured, but just watched in awe as the teenager under him coughed, his eyes still closed.

Cementoss, who didn't know how to stop the boys before it was too late, announced that Todoroki Shouto was out of bounds and unconscious, which makes Bakugou the winner of the festival.

Both villains watching were speechless. Kurogiri has never seen such power before, and now kind of understands where the younger boy when he sliced his palms. He can create huge explosions and could easily kill someone if he wasn't careful. He didn't know much about the other boy, other than he figured he had something to do with the Number #2 Hero: Endeavor. He figured he didn't have his father's quirk when he saw how easily he used his ice power, but was very quickly mistaken when he saw the raw power from his uncontrolled fire. He figured Midoriya was thinking the same thing when he saw the boy muttering and jotting down notes in his notebook.

Once the teachers gathered all the competing students together for the awards ceremony, a stage showed Bakugou in first place, Todoroki in second, and another student who had a bird face in third. There was a booming noise and All Might appeared from seemingly nowhere to in front of the winning trio. He gave the bird boy a third place medal, congratulating and enveloping him in a hug. He moved to Todoroki and gave him the second place medal and giving him a hug as well. The boy smiled fondly, and Midoriya felt his chest squeeze. The hero then moved in front of Bakugou and awarded him with his first place medal, congratulating him for winning, and patted his back. His smile was bright and Katsuki couldn't help but smile weakly.

Once the students were heading back to their classrooms to say their final good-byes before their long weekend of rest, Katsuki was stopped by his usual group of friends and they all praised him for winning.

"Dude! You looked so manly out there! I'm proud to call you my friend, Baku-bro!" Kirishima smiled, showing off his teeth. He patted his back with a bit of force, which threw off Bakugou's footing a bit.

"Your fight against Uraraka was definitely fun to watch! She's pretty fucking tough!" Kaminari had said from behind them, glancing at the girl as she walked out alone. "She almost won, yeah, but of course you had a trick up your sleeve, huh," he nudged his elbow into the blond's ribcage and smirking when he scoffed and pushed him aside.

"Yeah, yeah, leave me alone fucker. You were entertaining to watch, after short-circuiting, Pikachu," Bakugou crackled as Kaminari looked at him in disbelief, giving him a face of "I thought we were friends!"

Bakugou was soon left alone by his friends, and almost ready to leave himself. Todoroki approached him when he slung his duffel bag over his shoulder.

"You did good out there…," Todoroki started, looking down with his voice low. "I haven't seen you use your quirk like that, yet. It was pretty surprising."

Katsuki looked at him, "Well, I can say the same about you, Icy Hot. You've got a good quirk, and powerful too."

The other boy was taken aback, not used to anyone complimenting his other half. If anything, he'd like to avoid having to use his power, unless its life or death. "I-I only used it as an accident, I panicked."

Bakugou looked at him and smirked. "You did good."

With that statement, he turned around and left towards the door, waving his hand and swinging open the door.

Todoroki was left alone in silence, until he heard his phone vibrate with a text message.

Congratulations, Shouto! -M

He smiled.
