The Lie

"What do you mean?" He frowned at the book that I was holding.

"This book is saying that I gave up my life for a human. Haha! For a mere human, I gave up on my immortality? What a load of crap." I tossed the book on the bed with a giggle. "Your story about me being mistaken about my identity is a lot more believable."

I would not put it past a human mind to be able to create an illusion for themselves about being someone else to a point that they can even fool their own minds.

"It's not a story, Zee. It's a fact." He tucked a lock of hair from my face behind my ear. The gesture looked so natural and I didn't flinch away from him which meant that this body was accustomed to this kind of behavior. "And the sooner you snap out of this trance the better."

I smiled at him when a thought hit me. "Tell me, are you this person's lover?"

"This person?"

I scratched the back of my neck in frustration. "I meant me. Are you my lover?"
