The Innocent Bystander

Lena saw people standing in front of her, so she turned around to see if she could escape another way. Unfortunately, she could see no escape.

The third voice spoke first. "Who are you? How did you get here?" His voice sounded quiet and creepy. It did not seem to match the situation at hand, but it made Lena more scared.

"Let me go!" Lena cried, hopelessly. She knew her cries were useless, but she could not help but try.

"What did you hear?" The second voice said. This voice has a threatening tone to it, unlike the third voice. She looked towards the man who spoke, and saw that he was big and tall. She definitely would not be able to defeat him in a fight.

Wait... a fight. That's it! Lena thought. She would be unable to fight with them, but what if she caused them to fight someone else?

"I heard nothing! I was just following a friend!" She said, while pretending to be panicked. She hoped her act would work.

"A friend? Where?" The big man said, seeming to believe her words.

"She ran off before me. I tried to catch up to her, but you surrounded me before I could." Lena said, pretending still to be panicked. Internally, she was smiling. These idiots actually believe me. Sorry innocent bystander, you have to take the blame for me this time.

Slightly more than half the men surrounding her ran off in the direction she originally was running. Score! She thought, but then realized that she still could not take on the half that were remaining with her. Fortunately, the big man was one of the ones who left. She looked around, and saw that she was still surrounded on every side.

"What are you planning on doing with me?" She whispered, her voice shaking.

The first voice laughed, and the third voice joined him. "You'll see soon. Hahahahaha." The first voice said, as Lena's eyes met his piercing gaze. A cold chill shot through her spine, and Lena realized they won't do anything quite yet, like they were waiting for something or someone. She then collapsed from exhaustion right in front of all those men.
