Lying

James was silent for a moment as he looked at Lena. Lena could not tell what he was thinking about; she knew that he did not seem pleased to see her, but she wasn't hoping that he would not be against her presence now that she explained herself.

"Lena, can I ask you something?"

Lena's back straightened. "Of course!"

When she heard that he had something to say to her, she was excited. It meant that he wanted to talk to her, and was not going to ask her to leave.

However, he hopes were dashed when he asked his question.

"Do you have Tina's phone number?"

Lena froze. She stared at James, and James looked at her with a smile.

His smile was handsome.... that's not the point!

He asked for Tina's number the moment he saw Lena; that meant that he was falling deeper into the quicksand called Love. Lena had to save him now, else he would end up submerged under the sand forever.

"N- no. I... d-don't have Tina's number." Lena was shaking as she lied, so she secretly pinched herself.

Her nervousness did not go unnoticed by James. "Why are you so nervous? Are you lying? Do you have Tina's number?"

"I-I don't!" Lena was calmer the second time he asked, but she still spoke too quickly.

Fortunately, James believed her this time, so her lie managed to pass him.
