Distorting the Truth

After a couple of apologies, Vincent finally managed to persuade Glynda once again. He stood beside her as Glynda stretch out her hand to his mother, closed her eyes and started to chant a familiar verse, "For it is in passing that we achieve immortality. Through this become a paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all, infinite in distance and unbound by death. I release your soul and by my shoulder protect thee."

Suddenly they both glowed with a different shade of color, it's quite a sight to behold. Vincent looked at this phenomenon thoughtfully. The color disparities of their aura and that chant about soul. 'Could it be aura is the manifestation of one's soul, just like what she said in the show? Then what about vampire, do they have a soul? do I have a soul?'

He then remembers there is a vampire story about Vlad the Impaler who fused with a Leech that came out of the dark abyss while he was dying on the battlefield. The Leech consumed his soul in exchange for inhuman powers, but it made his blood tainted and he had to consume the blood of others to survive. Anyone he shared blood with would also suffer the same fate as him, inheriting his powers and also his need to feed on the others for blood.

So far it's the same as him and Shinobu, both of them also need blood to survive. Even the pureblood vampire who turned Shinobu into a vampire drink blood sometimes, though whether she did it for survival or pleasure is still unknown to him.

As for the problem of soul, he doesn't have the slightest idea whether Shinobu had consumed his soul or not. Vincent decided to ask her when he goes back to his professor's quarter. But, thinking about Shinobu made him realized something, would she obediently stay in their room? He had a bad feeling for leaving her alone.

Suddenly, a soft and weak voice called out to him, breaking Vincent from his thought, "Vinny, is that you honey?"

Vincent quickly turned back to face the voice origin and saw a pale woman in her thirty with the same blond hair and pretty face smiled gently at him.

"Mother!" Vincent rushed straight to his mother, so happy that he has to hold back his tears, "Mother... mother... finally, you're awake... I have been waiting for this for a long time."

He was trying to hug her but decided against it. He doesn't want to worsen her condition.

"Mother... I'm glad you're alright, I miss you." His fingers twitching as he tried to touch her but dropped his hand as if afraid if she would break like glass under his touches.

"It's fine now, honey. I'm here with you." Helen pulled him into her embrace and softly stroked his head, "Look at you... you have grown up nicely and become more handsome than your father right now."

"Mother..." Vincent was feeling conflicted, happy to meet her again, but also troubled, he don't have the courage to tell her that his father had abandoned them, it would break her heart.

But to his relief, his mother didn't bring up his father again, Helen turned to Glynda and said with a motherly smile, "And who is this Vinny? Your sweetheart? I guess I was away for too long... you even snatched yourself a wife in the meantime."

"No, mother... I..." Glynda was taken aback by what Helen said and stumped for words. She ended up copying the way Vincent addressing the pale woman.

"Oh my, you even called me mother." She then looked at her slim midsection, "Am I going to see my granddaughter soon?"

This is the first time Vincent saw the flushed face of Glynda Goodwitch who is known by the Beacon's residents as the cold beauty and a stern teacher that could freeze a river with her presence alone.

It was priceless!

He was pretty sure anyone would offer a fortune for this immortalized moment, especially general Ironwood. And in his moment of weakness, Vincent snatched a snapshot with his scroll under the flushed glare of Glynda.

Still, even though it was fun while it lasts, he can't let the misunderstanding to continue as it will create more trouble for him down the line. It also sounds like some cheap drama his mother loved to watch.

"Mother, you misunderstood. She is Glynda Goodwitch, the teacher of Beacon Academy and she's not my lover, we are just a colleague." Vincent explained their circumstances to his mother while trying to stifle his amusement from escaping through his lips. He still can't bring himself to believe that Glynda called Helen, mother.

"Oh dear... that's too bad, you two look great together, and I would love to hold a granddaughter soon."

"What're you saying mom, it's way too early for me to have a child..." He was speechless at the sudden turn of event. The last thing he remembers, he was still in high school. How could he think about a child, he doesn't even have a wife to act as the baby's vessel.

Suddenly, Vincent felt his heart thumped when he saw what lies ahead in the edge of his vision. That rare expression on Glynda's face doesn't look like it will bode well for him, he just knew it.

"I don't think you have to worry, Helen. Vincent already had a fiancee. So, I'm pretty sure you're not far from having a granddaughter soon." Glynda raised the corner of her lips into a smile.

"Oh my, I'm so happy for you honey." Helen smiled joyfully at her only son.

"Erm, actually..." Vincent said with hesitation in his voice.

"What's wrong honey?"

Looking at his mother's happy and delighted face, he doesn't have the heart to disappoint her by telling the truth about his relationship and Shinobu. So, there's only one thing he must do.

"... It's nothing," He squeezes out a smile, "I will bring my fiancee to you later, mom. For now, you should take a rest and focus on your recovery."

"I know honey, love you."

"I love you too, mom. Good night." Vincent kissed his mother on her forehead then followed Glynda to leave the medical room.

A few minutes later, Vincent and Glynda is walking through the corridor side by side. It was very quiet and no one spoke either. There's only the sound of high heels clicked against the tile floor as she walked beside him. The silence was not the peaceful one he loved to have.

Glynda was the first to break the silence, "Professor Vincent, Can you please delete my picture?"

"Well, I don't know..." Before Vincent continue to spew more excuses, Glynda takes the matter into her hand by making his scroll fly out from his pocket.

Vincent was slightly surprised at this but before she had the chance to seize it, Vincent already snatched it back from her telekinesis.

"Hey, what was that for..." Vincent grumbled.

"I want you to delete the photo you take earlier. You have no right and I forbid you to have it."

"Hey, I understand, Okay. It's only a joke. I was planning to delete it anyway. It's not like I want to keep it to myself or spread it out to other people," He said grudgingly, "But you had to make sure nothing like today from happening ever again."

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"Don't play stupid, Glynda. I'm talking about my fiancee. Don't go telling people about it," Vincent said to her which earned him a gaze that probably send shivers down even Ozpin's spine.

"I am afraid you're too late for that, Professor Vincent." Perhaps to get back at him, Glynda showed Vincent the feed of Beacon's camera from her scroll.

To his dismay, he saw Shinobu hanging out with team RWBY and JNPR. While stuffing her mouth with sweets, she answered Yang's question between chew, "Vincent and my relationship? He is my fiancee."

Both teams stopped their motion just like a robot who depleted its battery.

"You're what? His fiancee?!" Yang asked once again, thinking that she had a problem with her ears.

"Un, Vincent... is my fiancee," Shinobu mumbled the words against the donuts as they opened their eyes wide in disbelief at the unexpected news. Vincent can't believe those kids managed to bribe an answer out of Shinobu with some donuts... They already get a hold of her weakness!

Meanwhile, in the corridor. Glynda softly spoke beside him, "Professor Vincent... I'm pretty sure they're not the first one being told by Shinobu concerning the nature of your... relationship."

"Oh no... Shinobu, what do you think you're doing with that loli appearance?!" Vincent yelled silently, "I need to retrieve her limbs as soon as possible!"

People must know that he's not a lolicon.

As for the reason?

Shinobu had shapeshifting semblance after all, as long as he retrieved her limbs, no one would be the wiser.
