Truth and Allies

My thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of my cellphone. When I answered I was greeted by Garrets voice. "Hey, roomie were you still planning on hanging with us."

"Yeah I can I just got caught up in a few things. Where am I going?"

"We're all going to the big mall in Dionysus district. Get here quick or you may miss the arcade."

It was then that my previous thoughts came crashing back. The "Freaks" might be the ticket to filling the ranks of the disciplinary committee. "Yeah I'll be there soon and I have something to chat to you about as well."

After a bus ride, that included one transfer, to get me to the mall I found the "Five Freaks" just walking toward the entrance. I entered a light jog to cross the street as I called out. "Hey guys wait up I made it." They collectively turned around, stopped, waved and waited for me to reach them.

"Hey dude great of you make it. So we were going to be stopping at a few different places feel free to say yes or no to any of them. Some of us will be splitting off for different ones." garret started.

"First we were all going to get lunch at one of places in the food court. Afterwards it was going to be some time in the arcade, after which we would split off Garret and Damian are gonna check out the gaming and book store, Uriel to the antiques store, and Penelope and I are going clothes shopping." Darcy rattled off looking at her phone. It seems that she had scheduled everything out for them. "After we were all done if there was time maybe we would catch a movie."

"It sounds like you know what you're doing. I might actually bounce around a bit." I needed to get some light reading material and some new clothes. The ones I had were getting a little small now. While I could make a lot of things with my power there were both size and material limits. Casual clothing was a no go. Mostly I made things that had practical, combat, or technical functions.

The building was a three story complex with food court on the first floor, entertainment stuff on the second and the clothing and other stuff on the third. The food court had most of the staples of fast food places like McGonald's or Taco King. Each of us picked a different place to get food. My plate was heaped with fried chicken from Tennessee Fried Chicken. We all came back together at one of the tables.

"So, rebel ya said that you had something to talk ta us about. What did ya wanna say?" Penelope asked reminding me of one of the reasons that I had agreed to come here.

"So, I know you guys don't have the best reputation. And I wanted to help you guys maybe improve that you don--"

"Let me just stop ya right there. We're gonna be heroes but we don't need ta be big names. The teachers have already tried ta help us and they don't know what there doing. It just wasted their and our time." She said as she cut me off. "What makes ya think that you can succeed were professionals have failed."

I looked at them and all of them had looks of resignation on their faces. I realized that I couldn't expect them to trust me if I didn't trust them. I had learned previously that sometimes in order to complete a mission one needed to sacrifice something. Sometimes it was the right angle for the shot. Sometimes it was your best safe-house. Some losses were worse than others. This would be hard.

I breathed deeply and told them my tale. "I was a hitman for many powerful people. Villains, politicians, and others. I never took a contract on anyone that was a child or innocent. My power and skill level are both in the Alpha class. But I didn't start that way. My master said that my power was an alpha class when he took me in off the streets. However I was very timid and had little control. When I manipulated energy either nothing would happen or everything would break. When it came to creating things best I could do was a single charge taser."

"Turned out that my problem stemmed from two things. My imagination had been broken by the streets so I couldn't make much of anything. And I was scared of any form of energy directed at me. After a while my master rid me of the fear and had developed an imagination in me. Even though it's more mission oriented than anything else. So If you still think that I won't be able to help at all then I'll drop the topic. But if you think that I can possibly help you guys out please take me up on the offer."

"Thanks for sharing that with us it means a lot and your offer is nice and all but I've gotten my hopes up to many times I'm gonna pass." Uriel said in a very somber tone.

"Uriel has had longer, worse and more experiences with people promising the same thing an' not bein able to help afta all. But I think the rest of us need a little time to think it over can you give us that?" Penelope asked me genuinely.

"Yeah I can do that. I can understand that this is a big personal risk to each of you emotionally." I replied

"Well now that that edgelord past is brought to light Let's stop moping and get going." Garret interjected, clearly just trying to bring every one's spirits back up. " We've got stores to visit and fun to be had."

"A-a-are we just g-g-gonna not talk about how h-h-h-he used to k-k-k-kill!" Damian exploded his shadow rushing between the two of us and put a hand on my throat. I made no move this time.

"Brother, He wouldn't be allowed here unless there was some special circumstances. No way would Captain Valor sponsor him otherwise."

"Yer sis is right, Damian. That man is one hell of a hero."

The group soon seemed to go back to the cheery disposition they had had before. With the exception of Uriel who seemed just slightly more depressed than usual and Damian who now seemed slightly more afraid of me than before. That was accentuated by a pair of yellow eyes peaking out of his back pack watching every move I made.

As we were walking around Garret slid up next to me and began to whisper to me. "Jokes aside I did appreciate you going out of your way like that. I don't need to think about it I would like to try. I mean If I CAN do more than just turn invisible that would be great."
