Chapter 4

Five years pass, Kai stands in front of the house that he's lived in for years now smiling at the sight as he holds a small bag filled with his personal necessities. Visha comes out taking a deep breath as she does, clearly trying to prepare herself.

"Why do you look so nervous? You aren't the one taking a trip all on his own." He lets out a chuckle before stretching, his body having grown greatly in the last five years with some changes, growing to nearly six foot in height as his hair has been kept short while retaining its blue shine. His outfit being a common adventurer's type with tough black pants and boots, a black and red coat with a hood and a nicely fastened belt holding a sword to his hip.

These changes along with a new ridged dragon like tail wrapped around his waist showing his heritage as a Dridian a half human half demon hybrid. Kai turns to the woman who in many ways is the mother he never had pulling her into a hug. "Do I truly have to go? She pats his back to comfort him. "Yes, I'm confident that when you get accepted into the Firedawn academy your magic will only improve tenfold, I mean you can already use magic that's mid-tier level spells repeatedly without exhaustion which takes many people in your world till they graduate their final schooling to master."

Kai lets out a sigh knowing just how much mana mid-tier level spells can take as he nods and runs a hand through his messy hair "If you're sure this is the right move then I'll trust you." Visha smiles at this before pointing in a direction of the forest "Go through here and you'll come across a path that will take you to the Raijin Kingdom from there I've already told you what you need to do."

Kai nods and turns to leave but turns around and gives Visha one more hug "Thank you, so much for everything you've done and given me without you I wouldn't still be here or have this chance." "You're welcome... my child now go and believe me when I say we will see each other again one day, after all I'm sure you can find me in time."

Kai nods and walks where he was pointed to crossing the forest barrier and comes across a path turning around and waving his hand through the woods as it seems like there was nothing there to begin with. Kai takes off and starts to travel along the path hoping this walk is not a long one.

Two days later he finally makes it out of the forest and gazes upon the massive city and capital of the Raijin kingdom Archdale. Walking into the capital Kai walks past many shops each one selling different items. Kai takes a moment and stops at one selling weapons seeing a multiple different weapon types, taking a moment to browse before walking away and getting back to what he needs to do.

Kai stops and decides to ask a guard for directions "Sir do you know where I can apply for the Firedawn academy?" The guard looks him over before scoffing "Yeah go ahead and head down this road and take a right till you come across a red building with a black dragon on it. Though you shouldn't be too surprised if you get rejected kid." Kai's annoyance is visible making his eye twitch from the comment.

"Thank you for the directions and warning." Kai starts to walk down the road and comes across the building described walking inside as he sees a receptionist at the desk a female elf who smiles and starts to help him.

"Hello are you here to apply for the Firedawn academy?" Kai nods. "Well I need some basic information first, name, race, birthdate, and education." She finishes listing the information needed as Kai nods and hands her a paper he prepared before hand holding all the necessary information.

She looks confused as she sees he was homeschool thinking in her mind "Poor kid doesn't think getting into the most famous academy in the world is that easy does he." She looks back up at him and hands him the paper back. "Alright now if you'll go through this door, you'll be greeted with the practical exam for the academy, the instructors will explain further."

Kai nods and heads through the door feeling confident about his chances with the exam. He gets inside and sees two people another elf and a salamander, a humanoid lizard type person. Kai waits for a moment waiting for the instructors to speak as he sees another four people enter two humans an orc and a dwarf as the elf instructor finally speaks.

"Welcome, as you know you are here to attempt to get into the greatest magic academy on Atriax. This exam will be split into two practical portions, one to show your level of power and one to show your level of control." The five potential students nod as the elf sighs. "As you also know we can only take one more of you from this kingdom for the year which means four of you will be going home disappointed."

He takes the two humans and puts them in front of the wooden dummies "Now then I want you two to use the strongest magic you can muster, and don't worry about the dummies we had them enchanted to have resistance to magic so it's unlikely you'll destroy them."

The two humans can be seen taking deep breaths and nodding to each other before channeling their mana one casting a large lightning bolt and the other sending out an equally large sphere of lightning. The dummies can be seen to have light damage that quickly disappears.

"Not bad for newbies but also not great now show your control, I want to see if you two can cast a lightning chain and restrict your target for ten seconds." The two nod and cast their magic one of them failing and getting blowback from the spell causing the elf and other human to back away. The human falls to the ground clearly having passed out as the salamander picks him up and puts him against the wall.

The still standing human finishes casting his spell as lightning chains wrap around the dummy constricting it for only nine seconds before letting it go and falling down exhausted. "Disappointing, take your friend and get out of here you both failed."

The dwarf takes the test next failing to do any damage but managing to keep the chains for ten seconds allowing him to have a chance at getting in, the orc proceeds to try as well shooting a ring of lightning that hits the dummy before wrapping around it and cutting into one of the arms "How was that sir quite impressive don't you think" He smirks and gets ready to do the second part of the exam before being stopped by the salamander

"Don't bother you passed the second part we can see you have enough control." The orc lets out a cocky laugh. "Of course, thank you sir!" the orc joins the dwarf as Kai finally steps and prepares to attack the dummy casting his lightning as five spheres appears but don't move towards the target.

"He can't even get his lightning sphere to move." The elf says confused before sighing surprised that this child even applied as suddenly the five spheres let out large streams of lightning each one hitting the dummy blinding the people in the room for a moment. Once they can see again the dummy is completely destroyed and in pieces.

"I think I used too much power I didn't mean to destroy it." Kai thinks as he looks to the instructors to see shocked expressions as the salamander clears his throat. "I think we can safely say you passed." He pauses and looks at the dwarf and orc seeing them speechless. "You two can leave I believe we have our new student."

He says this as he kicks them out and nods to the elf who prepares a spell "Prepare yourself this is likely going to feel strange." He says this as a large blue magic symbol appears on the ground below them the glow is too bright causing Kai to close his eyes. When he opens them," he can see they teleported to a new place looking up at the building in front of him he can see the word Firedawn academy laid across the building with black dragons painted on the sides.

"Here we are, Firedawn academy, we will be having a ceremony for the new year tomorrow so for now head to your dorms and get some rest just head into the building and take a right." As the elf says this, he hands Kai a keycard with the numbers 302 on it. Kai nods and heads off spending about ten minutes trying to find his room.

"Where the hell is this place? It's like a damn maze!" He yells out as he finally finds it right in front of him shaking his head in embarrassment and thankful nobody saw this as he heads into the room locking it behind him. He looks around the neat dorm thankful he doesn't have a roommate seeing only one bed, setting his stuff down and getting out of his coat and boats before laying on the bed in his t-shirt and pants.

"I'm finally here, I hope you're right Visha so I'm going to see what I can find and do here so I can get stronger for you." He says putting a fist in the air before putting his arms behind his head and slowly drifting off ready for the next day that's sure to be full of surprises for Kai.
