Chapter 5

The next day arrives as Kai slowly drags himself out of the bed yawning like a bear fresh out of hibernation as he hears a knock at his door. He grumbles as he gets out of bed and opens the door looking to see who it is, as he does, he looks and sees a keret in a nice black suit with a black dragon crest on the jacket's right pocket a sentient robot species that has a self-generating mana core that allows it to live and to cast magic.

"What do you want? It's five o clock in the morning!" The keret can be heard letting out a strange robotic chuckle. "Hello I'm just here to tell you the ceremony starts in an hour" Kai looks at the friendly robot grumbling from just waking up not being a morning person in the slightest.

"Alright alright I'll be there, though I already knew the ceremony was soon but thank you I guess." Kai quickly says before slamming the door shut flopping back onto his bed still grumbling and half awake.

The Keret smiles and leaves making his way outside to where people are gathering as Kai thinks to himself. "Might as well get ready now since that idiot woke me up" He says rolling his eyes as he puts on his regular clothes along with his coat leaving the hood down as he leaves and starts to make his way outside.

An hour passes as everyone gathers and prepares to hear the speech soon to be given by the principle of the academy. Everyone goes silent as a large firework is set off above the stage getting their attention as the principle walks onto stage.

"Ah hell you got to be kidding me!" Kai can't help but exclaim as he looks and sees the same keret from before more annoyed than worried as he can only wonder. "Why'd he show up and warn me about the ceremony of all people.' Kai thinks as he waits for the keret starts to speak.

"Hello new and old students of Firedawn academy if you don't already know I am your principle or headmaster, whichever one you prefer to call me." He pauses and looks around spotting Kai sending a cheeky wink towards him making Kai flinch in surprise and annoyance.

"My name is Vigil and I will be responsible for everyone's safety and progress here, now I do not doubt there will be injuries and mistakes here, however I ask everyone do well not to cause trouble here." He casts an air spell and floats into the air before lowering himself to the ground of the students speaking as he walks through the crowd.

"But you were all selected by my instructors as people with true potential and due to this I have high expectations of you, do well to grow and not only get stronger but gain as much knowledge as you can here in our precious academy."

"Learn, listen, practice and grow that is what everyone in this academy does if they have the will and dedication. Not only that but with our academy and training everyone here has the potential to become one of the best like the legendary black dragon of the past agreed to be the strongest of all." He looks around and looks at two people a drake and a goblin flicking them both in the head making them grab their heads in pain.

"I do not care which kingdom you came from and I do not care what standing you believe to have in society as none of that matters here. Everyone here is no less in position to each other regardless of your magic choice or your magical power everyone here will be helped and will be taught no matter what. He casts his magic again and floats back onto the stage.

"With that said please enjoy your years at the Firedawn academy which I guarantee will be some of the best in your life, with that said farewell and train well as classes will start tomorrow and you'll be assigned to your instructors for your stay here." Vigil walks off the stage leaving his stunned audience on their own.

"Finally, that toaster is done." Kai says as he walks away going back to his dorm as he suddenly feels a hand on his shoulder seeing Vigil holding him causing Kai to sweat nervously as they suddenly teleport into a new area. The room is neat while minimalistic a simple chair, desk and couch with a great number of books around the room.

"Welcome Kai I'm sure you're wondering why I brought you here." Vigil says with his voice and tone unreadable as Kai lets out a deep breath. "Yes, I'm quite curious why you brought me here, I'm assuming it's not because I called you a toaster? Vigil lets out a loud laugh, strangely sounding due the robotic nature of it.

"No of course not." He lets out a chuckle at the notion. "However, you're here because you caught my interest." Kai raises a brow at this. "My instructors told me about your test and how you completely destroyed one of the dummies, which were protected by one of our barrier experts here, supposedly no one below a mid-tier mage should be able to destroy a limb let along the entire dummy.

Kai rubs the back of his head and lets out a nervous laugh "Perhaps I hit a weak spot?" He says feeling worried about what this unreadable keret is going to say next. "Oh no that's not really possible, you're just strong and that's great!" Vigil perks up standing up straight and smiling as he gets close and grabs Kai's arms.

"I have been so bored at the academy and I finally have a person of interest! Your entrance into the academy marks a time of change not only here but in the world! I must ask you can I see your aura I just must know what the fates have given you." Kai does as he asks and shows off his aura, the dark horrifyingly void aura.

"Amazing just amazing! The infamous black aura the opposite to the pure white aura good and evil shown in its purest form! If you would let me please allow me to see one of your potential futures your aura shows." Vigil says excited to investigate rather than worried like Kai expected.

Kai nods and Vigil begins to cast his magic reading his aura and seeing a vision of Kai standing in the middle of a town that's burning to the ground. Kai turns around in the vision showing off his black armor that has him fully covered black fire and lightning surrounding him as the vision cuts off abruptly.

Vigil pulls away shocked at what he saw putting a hand to his chin as he starts to think about what to say. "Vigil, what did you see?" Vigil pauses before answering. "I saw a vision of you traveling and fighting strong creatures. Serpents, bears, even a dragon."

Kai smirks at this. "That sounds great! I do desire to become stronger and that's hard if you never get experience." He says nodding as he speaks. "Thank you for reading my aura Vigil it's nice to hear I'm going to be adventuring like I wanted to."

Vigil nods and sits in his chair. "You came out of nowhere and you're one of the strongest first years we have ever had, because of this I feel the need to help and assist you so if you ever need anything do not be afraid to come and find me."

"Thank you, Vigil." Kai says before walking away about to leave the room as Vigil stops him. "That reminds me where are you from Kai?" Kai turns around and smiles "I'm from Fairheart sir a town in the Raijin kingdom." Kai says this before leaving as Vigil sits in silence knowing the name of the town as one of the places destroyed by a company of soldiers and mercenaries.

Vigil thinks about what he saw and what Kai told him as the name of the company comes to mind. "The Phoenix Imperium, that horrible company, no that horrible army that's sweeping the land as we speak, I can only hope that Kai doesn't lose himself for the purpose of revenge." Vigil thinks before getting to work looking over all his paperwork.

Kai continues to walk back to his dorm taking an hour to get back as he gets inside, the memories of Fairheart's destruction plaguing his mind as he starts to train his mana again feeling very little pain from the technique at this point, having perfected it after many years of using it.

He hears a knock at his door his eye twitching in annoyance as he cancels his training taking a deep breath and regaining his mana as he opens the door seeing a large bald human standing in the doorway. "You're Kai Sotaro correct?" He nods to the question as the human hands him a new uniform white in color with a black dragon crest. "Put this on for your classes otherwise you'll be punished for it also here's a manual telling you everything you need for the academy."

Kai takes the two items and nods before closing the door as her leaves leaving the uniform on a chair planning to read the manual tomorrow as he heads to bed seeing the night sky smiling and looking to the stars before laying onto the bed and resting. Closing his eyes as he drifts off feeling excited for the next day.
