A Different Approach

Some things in life never go exactly as planned though sadly.

After he stepped into the forest this time around he was instantly greeted once again by the sight of the lizard. The last two times the lizard only showed up after a bit of time in the forest and when he was about to leave the forest. There was no set pattern per se but it was definitely strange to him that it'd show up in front of him from the get go. Even though the lizard did interfere with him it never really annoyed him like he thought it might of. He was actually quite happy to see it now, especially after what happened last time. Since he felt like it was his fault for scaring it away he had felt slightly bad for it and upset at himself for doing such a thing to something that wasn't trying to harm him and in fact actively tried to be around him for some reason.

This time though it was different as he had been slightly hoping to meet the whole time once again since and now that the opportunity presented itself to him he didn't want to mess up once again.

"Huuuu..haaaa"

Taking a deep breath to get him into his calmest mindset he slowed down once again and stopped at a suitable distance from the lizard. This time around as well the lizard also walked slightly forward towards him before stopped. They were 10 meters away from each other this time around but this time he was going to attempt to take the lead. Slowly preparing himself for something that could possible end up with him looking really silly he began.

"Oi lizard what can I do for you, why do you keep following me?"

His plan was to attempt to talk to the lizard even if it couldn't talk back to him he knew it could somewhat understand him based on his first encounter with it. To how far it could do so though he really had no idea, it was just a chance he tried to take whether silly or not would depend on the next events that happened. But even after speaking out to the lizard he still didn't get any form of reply. To be fair he wasn't expecting it to all of a sudden speak to him but he was hoping for some form of movement from it but all he got was nothing.

"So you can't understand me?"

Retrying his approach he tried once more at asking it but still nothing. After waiting 5 minutes he finally thought of something that might work and figured it was probably worth a shot

"Maybe you can move any of your body parts if you can understand me. If you're willing?"

This time around he eventually noticed the change in the lizard but it was the exact change he was looking. After he asked the question the lizard still didn't do anything yet again but after a minute of watching it slightly swayed its tail unlike before when it hadn't been moving it. It could be just a natural reaction or it got tired of not moving around but he figured it wasn't the case. This lizard wanted something from him and was obviously trying to continue contact with him even if it did seem scared of him or on guard around him. So most likely that was a sign for him that it did understand him at least to some extent.

"So you can, I see then. Let me start off by saying I'm sorry if I scared you the last time when you were approaching me I didn't mean any harm if that's what your worried about and I hope you didn't find me scary ahaha."

He tried to apologize for his actions last time seeing as it could understand him to some extent as stupid as it sounds but he ended up adding some unconscious self mockery into his sentence. "Get a hold of yourself."

"Sorry for yesterday and that last remark as well"

After seemingly hearing his words and digesting them the lizard finally moved once again but this time it moved forward instead of just moving its body around like it did before. Taking that as a chance and some sign of recognition he quickly called out.

"Wait don't move just yet let me do something first. It might help you calm down in this situation."

Seeing as how it was nervous the last time he made a move when it was too close to him this time he wanted to make it feel more at ease so he started the plan he had in his mind that could help them both. When the lizard heard his words it surprisingly did stop but only after slightly hesitating.

"It's okay you don't have to force yourself if your scared of me we can always take our time."

Letting out a slightly gentler voice then before he slowly began.

"I'm going to move don't get to nervous okay?"

After seeing the lizard slightly acknowledge him he brought his hands slowly in front of him to show he wasn't doing anything then slowly brought them together and took out a makeshift rope that was on the side of his waist. His plan was to tie his hands up at the start to show that he wouldn't do anything. Even if this could be a meaningless gesture in some ways because he could break it open if need be it still helped show and get his intentions across.

Well he was tying himself up the lizard watched each and every single thing he did until finally he was tied.

"I hope this is better and helps you feel a bit better. I'm going to move again don't be worried."

Now that his hands were tied up the next part of his plan was to sit on the ground. When he was sitting on the ground he'd have less time to react due to the position of his body which would hopefully make the lizard feel safer and help bring their interactions together more smoothly. Even if it didn't work this time he was in a sense laying the groundwork for other encounters because he was sure to see the lizard again with the way it acted and how long he planned to spend in the Myriad Forest. So even if it wasn't what he wanted exactly it would be nice to have someone around that he could even just interact with.

With him sitting it could also help show that they were more on equal terms instead of him just menacingly looming over the poor thing which he also hoped would be slightly conveyed to the lizard. Though he didn't know how much it understood what he was doing but actions were far louder than words and could hopefully get through to it.

After spending some time tying the rope and sitting down he finally stopped moving and talking and just looked back at the lizard that was staring at him. Only to notice that it was slightly in a daze after he looked.

*cough*

He slightly cleared his throat, hoping to wake it from its seemingly daze but that only proved to backfire on him. After he cleared his throat the lizard snapped out of its daze and came back to its senses but when it seemed to notice what happened it took one last quick look at him and actually ran away from him once again.

"So it chose to run away once again. What am I going to do about this honestly?"

He was slightly frustrated that his plan didn't work and they seemingly made no progress but hopefully it did understand him a little more if anything though. It was a slightly saddening thought to know it ran but everything has a time and a place and he still had many more chances to try and change the way their encounters went. A couple bumps on the road weren't going to stop him even if it was disheartening.

"Well I guess it's time to continue my hunt once again."

Shaking off these lingering feelings he quickly calmed himself and headed off deeper into the forest to continue his original task of the day. Though he knew it would definitely not be the last time he saw the lizard today or in the future, it was just a matter of when.
