A Failed Duty

Watching the intruder try and attack Tearia with him still standing there he dashed forward and swatted the sword out of his hand. Trying to grab him in the process he felt the man's shirt slip his grasp as the sword fell to the ground alongside Tearia's scythe. "Slippery one." Making sure Tearia was okay first, Aeon was a boiling pot of anger as he turned his frozen gaze back onto the man who had tried to attack her. He was mad with himself and with the attacker that stood in front of him.

"So you're the one they sent to try and stop us from helping these people, I wonder how exactly you managed to slip in here without notice."

Wiping some of the sweat off his forehead Arzan stared at Aeon with hints of fear.

"Aeon....The Unreal One, so this is where you've been hiding all these years?"

"oh ho? It seems you know of me and yet you still dare to stand before me. Not many are that confident with themselves, It's a nice change of pace to the usual or are you perhaps just full of yourself? Either way I asked you a question, young one."

Looking the man up and down he was quite impressed he wasn't shaking in fear at the sight of him like most others who knew his name.

"I've got nothing to say to a relic of the past."

Teleporting forward he tried to see how strong Aeon really was now. He heard plenty of stories about him and did his research but seeing it first hand was always something else. "Do you live up to it?" Aeon was a living legend within the underworld and an idol many looked up to in the past that even he looked up to. So to be able to fight him was a dream come true for many reasons. There was no way he was just going to back down without at least giving it a try. "If need be I can escape easily anyway." He already had his escape route in mind as well giving him some confidence.

"So young, full of energy and stupidity. Are people really calling me a relic of the past nowadays? Disappear for a few tens of years and everyone thinks you've turned soft..."

Watching the trails appear Aeon easily followed them as he stuck his hand out at where the man was about to appear ready. Unlike most others he had a very big history with space users so he knew most of their tricks by heart. "Sloppy." Ignoring the obvious second attack Aeon let it happen to drag the man into a false sense of security. Sometimes letting yourself seem like you were trapped was the best way to create openings. With him appearing exactly where he thought Aeon grabbed at the arm of the man as he smiled in false victory.

"It seems you really have gone soft old man."

"Why's that?"

Arzan's grin grew deeper as he watched the second sword appear behind Aeon ready to pierce his back. "If I can take down Aeon, my name will be known!" Getting lost in what if's, he watched the blade stab the old man who appeared to not even notice it at all. "Yes!" Sadly his dreams were only going to be crushed as Aeon quickly spun around with Arzan in hand putting his body in the direct path of the blade. In the next second he felt his own sword stab right through his stomach as blood pumped through his body and out of his throat.

*Cough*

Spitting up a bit of blood Arzan looked down to see himself impaled as a look of horror crossed his face. Weakly he tried to pull it out as quickly as he could before Aeon stopped him. Feeling his other free hand get grabbed he looked up at Aeon. "What the." His old grey hair was covered with bits of blood from him and his grip on his arms was tightening but he didn't look angry or upset. Instead he just calmly smiled at him like he was greeting another guest with no judgement whatsoever. "Show something, I just tried to kill you!" Shouting in his head that calm look pissed him off the most as he tried to struggle out of his grasp.

"Let go of me..."

"I'm sorry but I can't do that, you aren't completely useless to keep around after all."

Panicking at Aeon's words Arzan used every bit of strength he had left to even get one arm free. Spitting blood on his arm he tried to get himself a little bit more slippery as he yanked his arm backwards in one pull nearly popping his shoulder out. Quickly he threw his hand in his pocket and grabbed a crystal as he released a sigh of relief. "Found it." Feeling some of the worry leave his body he looked up at the old man one last time as he pulled out the crystal and crushed it. Watching the man escape his grip he saw him pull out a crystal he instantly recognized as his mask of calmness broke.

"Where did you get that!?"

"Found it lying on the street, Looks like today is not your day Aeon. I gotta go but it was a lot of fun getting to see your strength in person. Until next time."

Without any way to stop the man, Aeon was forced to watch as the man's body disappeared from this room going to who knows where. "Dammit." That crystal he broke was a rare safety tool that could instantly teleport someone out of danger once. The problem Aeon had with it though was the similarity to the ones he had seen in the past. "Such a rare thing and on the likes of him...why?" Unable to do anything about it, he frowned as looked towards Tearia. Walking up to her, he grabbed her shoulders and gave her a little shake.

"X...Xilo..?"

Hearing her voice listlessly speak Xilo's name Aeon sat her down to rest.

"Sorry princess but I'm not the knight that you're looking for, I'm just a fallen warrior that failed his duty. You're knight will be here soon, for now just rest and we'll talk together later."

With a bit of melancholy in his voice he grabbed a chair and tied the people on the floor to it while he waited for Xilo to make his return.

"Should be here soon."
