The moon was high and full—like fate itself wanted to witness the carnage. And I? I was dressed in black from head to toe, a knife strapped to my thigh, and fire in my blood.
This was the night I'd waited for.No more running. No more hiding. We were coming for Vale.
Liam pulled the SUV to a stop just outside the wooded perimeter of Vale's private estate. Armed guards patrolled the walls, motion sensors glowed faintly in the grass, and the whole place reeked of paranoia wrapped in luxury.
I stepped out and adjusted my earpiece.
"Final check-in?" Liam asked.
"Team Alpha is in position at the west wall," came the voice of Karla—Liam's underground contact and one of the few people I could actually stand.
"Beta team ready with the jammer," another voice crackled in.
"Signal scrambler on standby," Liam said, glancing at me. "You sure about this?"
I smiled. A real one. Razor-sharp and dangerous. "He started this game. I'm just making sure I finish it."
We moved in silence, slipping through the trees like shadows. I knew this terrain. Vale had brought me here once—when he still pretended I was someone he loved. Sick, twisted, delusional man.
A guard rounded the corner.I struck fast. One stab to the side. One whisper in his ear: "Compliments of the Vixen."
He dropped without a sound.
"You're enjoying this," Liam murmured through the comms.
"I'm not even warmed up," I replied.
By the time we breached the main compound, chaos had erupted on the east side. A diversion. Explosions, screams, panic. Everything timed to perfection.
Inside, I slipped through the halls like smoke. I knew the layout. I knew his habits.
I knew where he'd be.
I burst into his study.
And there he was—Damien Vale, looking like the devil on casual Friday. Calm. Arrogant. Holding a glass of scotch like he hadn't just murdered my past and tried to set fire to my future.
"Celeste," he said, smiling. "Right on time."
I leveled my gun at his heart.
"Say your last words, Vale."
But he only chuckled and tapped the desk.
A screen blinked to life behind him.
And on it—VIXEN 02.
Tied to a chair.
Terrified.
Vale tilted his head. "Kill me, and she dies."
My grip tightened on the trigger.
He grinned wider. "Your move, sweetheart."
